      petey twofinger Craig Smith is a musician whose life had so much promise yet derailed by schizophrenia and drugs, his Apache and Inca albums are somewhat similar (in terms of eerie quality) to Skip Spence's Oar (and the electric stuff is a bit like the Byrds and Buffalo Springfield) in someways, you'll might like it. He was involved with The Monkees, The Beach Boys and weirdly enough Andy Williams at some point, his story can be found here: dangerousminds.net/comments/meet_craig_smith_l.a._pop-folk_golden_boy_turned_lost_psychedelic_genius_th
      And I love Roy Wood (and the Move), so underrated. And no problem I was born in the 90s aha but grew up with the sixties and seventies music, it's fine.

      petey twofinger No problem man, really enjoy the series, it's one of my favourite stories alongside Skip Spence and (of course) Syd Barrett. I'm sorry to hear about you stopping the series due to bad comments and stuff, and I hope it weren't too pressuring, but I'm glad to have shared it, bought Swim Through biography fairly recently and was so taken with the book. The biographer is such a fan of his that he is releasing an album of unreleased material with the help of Craig's brother, which I look forward to hearing.
      And I love Wizzard too, need to check out more his stuff at some point.

    • @peteytwofinger
      @peteytwofinger  6 лет назад +2

      yeah i am listening to wizzard brew right now - man its great and that mustard album is really out there bot totally together stuff man . you look at roy and i think his appearance doesn't fit the music he made - he looks like such a freak and then the music is this super tight 50-s roots stuff its just such a bait and switch to me . i think the level of his music was just a bit much for the public , and then his image hurt him as well . i remember hearing his say he was kicked off public transportation for his make up ... ha . yeah i have a folder called "craig " right now , i found a soundclick page of unreleased extra tracks from craig , i also obtained a pdf of the book , and i will be using all my tricks to fully research this one before i start . i have some regrets as i really cringe / loathe some of the moments from the series . i was very VERY sick when i made that . i have recovered now , not fully , iat this point i suffer lethargy and sleepy-ness , so i am always often wiped out and can not stay awake . BUT i am free from the hell that was the panic attack that lasted 4 months so ... anyway i am anticipating doing well and spending more time on this episode as last time , well for one i waqs sick and fot two i was making five or 6 ... here at this point i am looking at one story . if i come to a point of realization where i say to my self " this story here is an AC episode " i will gladly make that leap and go thru the process again , but the idea of doing episode on someone such as brian wilson ... well i already attempted to go down that road and that lead me to places i wont go to . i simply can not address that one its too hot . i do not wish to do a watered down bullshit story of what a quarter of the truth may have been and blame drugs when really there was a huge conspiracy that went down ... that would just be a cheap ass cop out . i am not about spreading rumors or cover stories , there is enough of that going around in this world . i would rather at least make an effort to try to tell what actually went down . the syd barrt episode a i mention is cringe worthy , but how could i do an series called what is called and leave him out ? lol . the other one is the animal collective guy mangum , that was hepatitis coupled with mono , and he suffered a spiritual crisis which lasted two years . he was not an acid casualties that was all just Internet hype related to his " spacey" lyrics . so me making the statements i did in episode 6 which is the one where i explain my situation , why i made the series and why it is over , well i said that because at that time i felt there were no additional stories WORTH the investment of time it takes to do it right . i need enough material to assemble something that lasts 25 minutes or so , is what i need to make one of these things . i certainly do not wish to tell the stories of mentally ill people such as GG allin , abd i am sorry but i don't find ANYTHING related to cocaine or heroin addiction worth spending my time on . that hsit is awful , there is nothing funny or worth glorifying about addiction . you see its a very fine line i attempted to straddle when i made this thing . i look at these entheogens as a double edged sword . i can NOT ethically come out and say " acid is so awesome ,take it and you will be a rock star" ... i have to be really careful as to my audience is listening and not all of the people watching these things are adults . there are curious kids out there , who idolize people who have crashed and burned . if i can instill a healthy fear or respect for these incredibly powerful substances and prevent some kid form harming himself , well thats the cherry on top for me .thats the REAL reason i made it right there . so ... that being said , i am thinking i wont be making many more of them if any after i go thru the process of consideration on this craig case study . i have to absorb all that first as i have no idea about his story . i have listened to the music and so far i am going to go on a limb and just say yes , for sure there will be an episode , just going on the merit of his music and what i have read so far . the book is supposed to be excellent so ... i am hoping the story is strong but also that it isn't too sad . i think that will be the bummer here is this story at its core is a tragedy of loss of humanity and that sucks man .speaking of bummers .... i just lost my BEST friend , who happened to be a cat , he was young ,ti came out of nowhere , he didn't suffer for more than a week and we have a new Buddie here who is settling in to keep me company but yeah i always say nothing good happens in this time of year . . . . so keep me in your thoughts and send some good vibes my way . thanks so much , again for sharing that info with me . i thought this day would not come but here ia m and its time to start diggin in for another episode . . . . this one is all your fault quicksilver ... ha ha . i know what i say about January to may but one good thing did come out of this time of year ... and that is my album .
      ruclips.net/video/o6dbxqX5hK0/видео.html - give it a shot sometime - and if you do - thanks for listening , perhaps its not too shabby for an old grumpy freak with only two fingers ...

      Jeff, did Skip go by "Pete" sometimes? I think I may have known him for a couple of months in Montreal in spring and summer of 1970. He claimed to be Skip Spence, one of original in Jefferson Airplane and Moby Grape. I went to a concert with him in Monseau Quebec where Dr. John appeared. We slept under the stage.. He liked acid and had a deep singing voice. His speaking voice was not deep. Another mutual friend and I remarked on that, I recall. I distinctly remember him playing the Beatle's Blackbird, Rocky Racoon, Here Comes The Sun (he loved that!) and I think "I Will Always Love You". He could flash a lot of smiles, chained smoke and had kind of greasy blonde hair and he wore glasses, usually. Kinda dorky looking plastic glasses. His face was broken out some, maybe from diet and dope, I don't know. I think around the last time I saw him was when we saw Janis Joplin had died--it was on front page of a grocery deli outside display. He was 5 years older than me. I would now and then call him "Spencer", as it seemed dignified and was a takeoff on "Spence". I was a midwestern kid-- had heard of the two bands, but thought he just had mental probs. Once he became semi-angry when I did not believe him. Some weeks later, a mutual friend said he had threatened a girl we knew with a hand ax (I believe it was) in his apt. Now I realize it may have been him, now that I've read of Spence. He also wore a brown suede jacket-- quite fancy...as the one I've seen Skip Spence wear in photos. We were shocked he had almost attacked a girl, as he was very compliant-like in personality-- easy to get along with usually, except maybe 1/10th of the time when a very dark and kind of scary mood would overcome him. I have seen his son's FB page...Omar is his name. "Pete" (not Petey) was how we knew him. This was obviously way pre-internet, and people really had no way of certainly verifying who was who. But the licks on "All My Life"--- and the refrain..I am almost sure I recall. It was 48 years ago. Once in a while Pete would say, "call me Skip". I recall askin--what is your last name again? He said Spence. I said "I like that"-- cam I call you "Spencer?"..."cause that is dignified and classy like you?". He smiled and said yes. He really did maintain all this Jefferson Airplane/Moby Grape stuff. When I asked why he quit, (he told me in his rented room) he said they kicked him out. I returned to the subject at keast once days later and his mood became dark then. He was angry I was dubious, but he wasn't violent. He also claimed to be from Ontario--the town (I have since looked it up a few months ago) sounds same as where Spence was from. Thank you for even a one sentence reply about Pete. He was one of the more fascinating people I've ever met and loved to walk and play his guitar in public--often in the rooming house area (then) a block or two or three east of McGill Univ.

He allegedly came back from the dead , and even a cult of super faithed out monks in big sur were afraid to attempt an exorcism on this pour beautiful soul . RIP Skip , you are loved
