Think about it, Link was there in the Fifty as one of the originators of rock. In this clip it’s the mid-80’s, and he’s still looking and sounding very contemporary, fitting in with punk, new wave, alternative. The other guys from the Fifties had even gone away or were distinctly nostalgia acts by then. Link never got old.
He definitely had those Marshalls cranked all the way to 11… When I saw him play at the bluebird theater in Denver, he had four double stacks cranked to 11… Two stacks facing the audience, the other two standing just behind the previous two but facing backwards. The sound was terrifying

Yep, that Schott Perfecto leather jacket loosely worn over a bare chest, TIGHT leather trousers tucked into knee-high jackboots. As I recall the "Rumble" was stretched out to about 7 minutes! I'm glad that your transistor survived, to "Rumble" again, for another day!!
At 77 years old I was lucky to have heard this song in 1958 and could not get it out of my head. I used to picture vampires coming in my bedroom while this was playing late at night on my radio under my pillow. Wkbw came in clear and so did wprt so it was easy to hear this at all hours. May God have link do concerts in Heaven if I get there.

My father and I saw him perform at Mohawk Place in Buffalo, New York in 2003. Two hour show and still shredding better than people around 1/3 of his age. It was fantastic. I also got his autograph on my concert ticket.
I remember when Rumble was released back in the late 50's .. I played the grooves off the 45 and a few needles on my cheap mono record player .. to hear Anton Fig explosive drumming for this performance just blows me away .. priceless!

I grew up on the Eastern Shore of Maryland, and a DJ from Baltimore Buddy Dean would bring bands to Easton MD and I got to see Link Ray during the early 60s at one of the shows. To this day Link Ray is #1 on my list.

Saw Link at the Double Door in Charlotte, NC in the late 90s and had the opportunity to meet him after the show. I walked up to him, whipped out my wallet and attempted to hand him the largest bill I had - only a $10. He looked puzzled and asked "What's this for?" I said "Pete Townsend said anyone who ever played a loud, distorted guitar owes you money and this is all I got!" He laughed genuinely and told me to keep my money. We had a nice conversation. He was in his 70s at that point and he rocked the house.

Wray always fascinated me. Seemed to put together a handful of quintessential instrumentals in quick succession in the late 50s early 60s and never really made much after that.

This was the first song I ever learned to play on the first electric guitar (a Sears-Roebuck) I ever bought with my own money through my first amp (also a Sears-Roebuck). I went to my garage, cranked it to 10 and never looked back. I was 10 years old and by God I was a guitar hero.

Went to see Link Wray at this outdoor restaurant/event place in the mid-2000s. He never made it and two weeks later the news came out he was dead. As sad as that is, the opening act also did rockabilly, including Rumble, to make us not regret coming and it was still a nice evening due to them. Part of me thought Link had health problems at his age, not 100% but saddened at the news of his passing.

This was the first song I ever learned to play on the first electric guitar (a Sears-Roebuck) I ever bought with my own money through my first amp (also a Sears-Roebuck). I went to my garage, cranked it to 10 and never looked back. I was 10 years old and by God I was a guitar hero.

Went to see Link Wray at this outdoor restaurant/event place in the mid-2000s. He never made it and two weeks later the news came out he was dead. As sad as that is, the opening act also did rockabilly, including Rumble, to make us not regret coming and it was still a nice evening due to them. Part of me thought Link had health problems at his age, not 100% but saddened at the news of his passing.
