Dude.. love these vids on levelling beds , ways , alignment from chuck to the stock...heads to bed... , after watching a couple of vids , makes life so much easier...and provokes confidence , knowledge is paramount... done in a way which is not confusing or condescending...
I've been on the tools for only 3 years... well close to it.. have 1970 spanish d360 Minitor lathe... and a Heller ftv-3 mill auto on x and y , z manual... with 3x dro... if treated like a lady works well.... .. got tool grinder too.... , now this hobby is growing... and is more addictive than crack.... need a shaper....!

Precision is dependant on precise measurement. Watching all the different measurements needed and checked and double checked to get the result you were looking for. Even though I am not a machinist I have learned so much from you Adam. I want you to know I appreciate the time you take to explain what your doing and how to achieve it.

I bought an India made tailstock. Yeah, just a hobby guys! And I went thru the same steps by instinct, so Thanks Adam for showing how to do this and ridding me of doubts I might have had on how I went about correcting these type of issues. Earl grey tea in hand and watch the videos.

One thing I've learned from watching these master machinists (and my machine shop instructor in College) is: "Nothing is ever "perfect" but there is no such thing as being "too precise". You split the difference and go with it!

Still appreciate watching an expert indicate in a part. The basics I learned as a beginner watching you indicate in, and true up parts on a 4 jaw, taught me what good machining looks like, and is capable of. I'm not happy unless things are within a couple thou, and I know how to get there. Thank you for taking the time to teach.

So many more things that you can do.
Even a grinder for your lathes you would be able to get great accuracy and finish.

QUESTION ❓ when you adjusted the side play to take out that. 003 alignment error using that alignment bar and you loosened the nuts holding the tool to the table and then tightened them down to get zero reading on the guage. But when you put the test spindle in you had losened the nuts to slide the tail piece into position on the spindle, now would you have to indicate that side play again and take out that .oo3 misalignment again every time you moved that tail piece?

15:34. Looks like you need a couple shelves mounted around the crane for small parts. They can be made from wood for temp. use.
Around the base you can make some inserts out of ply and 2xs to cover the anchor bolts. Wood will be better anyway because the parts won't slip.
