it's interesting because this is something people were saying a lot like 15 years ago but i haven't heard this criticism in a long long time, which to me suggests attitudes changed. which i definitely believe because i do feel like people are kind of too online. like it feels like a lot of people, their lives are online. when i was a kid, spending all your time online was like a "nerd" thing, people would tell you to get a life. but now spending all your time scrolling social media is seen as just some vice that we all do. like when someone talks about "doom scrolling" it's meant to be relatable to everyone who would be listening. but like 15 years ago if i said that i spent all day scrolling instagram or twitter people would ask if i was doing okay lmao
One of the things I hate most about capitalism. People not only need to conform to an image that is being sold to us against our will, but these things people do to show that they're 'goint places' and 'enjoying life'... they're not even enjoying it. They're creating a SIMULATION of enjoyment and experience, in exchange for clout, rather than for the sheer pleasure and the sharing of the experience with those they're going with....corrupting and poisoning both the enjoyment and the connection they're purportedly bragging about. 🤦🏾♀️😕😑
That's why I told myself, you make pictures and videos for memories. 1 minute is plenty. And every year I'm reminded by google that I had a great evening.
I agree. I think over the last 10-15 years we've slowly trained ourselves to feel like an experience didn't really count unless other people know that we did it.
While I agree that people are taking action in the real world to bolster their online persona/metaverse profile. I would also argue that an enhanced online presentation of oneself could be seen as a way to enhance their IRL profile. Example would be post pics on Insta of a party, this may increase my chances of getting invited to another party IRL, or if I spend money on an IT cert and put it on LinkedIn, that could possibly increase my IRL payout. Regardless, a very interesting observation that is worth further exploration.
Dude is right. Insane how it’s been happening!
I've been thinking this for years and finally someone i follow says it 😆
