Glad to see DHL handled that super expensive package so carefully... In regards to Bitmain pre-mining with them: You won't find much dust. Bitmain uses a different formfactor in their farms. The heatsinks, control board, PSU, and PCB are likely all new (but QC tested for a few days), but the silicon itself is likely used. (Think like using an RTX 3090 for yourself, and then re-soldering the GA102 die itself to whole new PCB/cooler to resell as new.)
That doesn't seem right to me. The only way to use the silicon would be to package it and build a supporting board, etcetera. The most cost effective thing would be to just use the hashing boards as configured so they're not resoldering thousands of chips. Do you have any supporting evidence, maybe I'm off base?
DHL is the worst courier in the universe. I've been charged by them tens of euros worth of VAT for imaginary delivery cost they made up while I had the "free delivery" which basically means I had the delivery costs included into the product cost but at DHL there is no such a thing as free delivery. Recently I had two free sample metal shafts for work stuff (pen sized) shipped from sweden and the company sending it paid 70 euro for the shipment, it then was held for like 3 weeks in DHL warehouse because there was some customs not sorted out, they forced involvement of some sloppy 3rd party company that needed a lot of paperwork and wouldnt accept that those are just free commercial samples that import duties dont apply to.
@@wertacus No real evidence per say, but there are pics floating around of large (very wide) asics not for public use. For all we know, they could be reballing the chips, or as you suggest, even reuse the whole hashboard (after some ultra sonic cleaning) to save cots. Wasn't trying to say I had any definitive proof, but rather just trying to say that Bitmain can pre-mine these asics while still selling units looking "new".

Obviously the fans are brand new, that's a 50 cent item over there. New stickers, changed case if it was too obviously damaged. All used up until end of June.

For a $10-12k piece of equipment, that’s some terrible quality control! Literally all of my GPUs get far better care in packaging at 5% the cost. Insane. Im skeptical those weren’t ran before, you can have minimal dust if it’s in a filtered area. At least it’s efficient…?
Considering how much you pay for these asics I would expect a lot better quality packing material and shipping handling. It makes me 2nd guess buying one. Along with the extreme loudness of it. I appreciate it's ability for huge hash and little wattage but it makes me feel like bitmain just want to push then out to line their pockets with no customer quality. Even $100gpu has better packing material than this. Having dust all through it makes me feel like a 2nd hand customer. Kind of disgusting.
My guy, it's still making $42/day on ETC. Its not that deep. The merge isn't some sort of apocalyptic event. Also gonna get EthPOW. Maybe not gonna have the profits we currently have on ETH but mining is still going to be profitable. Maybe you won't have a 6-month ROI like they used to, but shit, what kind of investment has that quick an ROI? When "high-risk" investing only has like a 15% annual gains, and gpu mining is something like 100% annual gains, if not more? I thought the same thing, had purchased 3 rx580s for $750 total in 2017 for mining. Mined 1.17 ETH, crypto crashed, cards were making like 5 cents a day after electricity, decided to just turn them off. Everyone was selling off cards too, saying mining was dead, and I blindly listened. Fast forward to 2022, if I'd left those cards mining and cashed out when eth reached $4k, I would have had over $8k. Instead I had listened to the trolls and sold 1.17eth for like $120.
