You don’t have to time the catching. You just have to press the button while it’s falling. If you do it “early”, you enter an animation where you wait for it to land in your arms, and you gain the points for it when it does. You do have to time hitting the wood though.

I honestly can’t figure out if he is skipping the controls on purpose for the sake of rage content, or if he really somehow doesn’t realize there’s a whole other page of instructions for controls before every minigame.
There’s a tab that says “Controls” where you can look at the controls before a Minigame. Just click it and you will know the controls. It’s right next to the rules tab
