  • What’s the correct way of filling petrol? Let’s see…
Never been on a motorcycle before and during lockdown I decided to learn how to ride. This is my journey and my thoughts.

After driving a car for over 15 years the biggest surprise for me was the amount of money you have to pay for the fuel on the bike.. When I first took the bike from the shop and went to fill her up I thought the counter was broken as I had to pay like 7€ for a full tank… I thought they will not let me take so little haha.. Awesome, thanks for the video 👍

The same thing impressed me too! It was so weird.

Excellent video!! I have a 701 Svartpilen and filled it up so I thought and the gas did not last that long. And I filled it up again and the mileage read as if I could do only 60 miles on a tank. I started thinking that I need to stand up like you did and was trying to figure out other peoples experience but thought that I might sound crazy for asking about this but I think you are on to something. Thanks for doing this video. I am in the US where you have to use credit cards first in most cases so it will be difficult to put the credit card in and pump gas while standing up. What do you think about that?

Billy’s comment below gives the idea of actually getting off the bike, fill it like you normally do and in the end just lift the bike up in order to finish with the bike vertical. Tried that and failed miserably :) I didn’t want the filthy fuel pump cable touching my bike :) In order to not to do that I use both my hands sooooo I need more practice. I think it’s doable I just need to do it properly. Obviously I’m making a huge deal out of something trivial but I’m one of those guys who overthink everything :(

@@vanyer401 So you are saying fill it up while on the bike is the best option?

@@p-dub7422 Off the bike with the final drops lifting the bike upwards is the best option imo.

I wouldn't take the risk of doing this for the sake of a few more millilitres of fuel. What happens if it spills over and down onto a hot engine/exhaust? And all over you at the same time? Are you going to jump off a burning bike and drop it to the floor, spilling another 10+L everywhere? Much safer to just do it on the side stand and keep out of the way. Or maybe lift the bike up off the side stand with your other hand for the last few drops if you must. Not like the Svart is particularly heavy.

This actually makes sense and to be honest never thought of it like this. Thanks for your input.

@@vanyer401 sorry reading my reply it sounds a bit like a telling off 😂. Didn't mean that but just wanted to point out what could happen. I feel particularly more at risk filling my bike than my car. Maybe it's because the tank (and fuel) is much closer and you can't rely on the pump cutoff etc. But I'm always extra careful filling up. Maybe too careful some might say but...
Maybe I'm very risk averse, but in that case why do I ride a motorbike 🤔

@@BillyHey72 No worries mate! To me it read as honest criticism but above all a different view that I haven’t thought off :)

      I agree.
Can be dangerous. Plus you sit in the vapors.
I just leave her on the side stand and carefully fill all the way to the top. Like all the way.

What is the too speed ? Is the acceleration good ?

    • @vanyer401
      @vanyer401  2 года назад +2

The top speed is nominally 62mph I think but I’ve done 57mph if I remember correctly. On a good day. The acceleration is as any 125cc motorcycle. I believe is slower than an automatic because you probably lose some seconds changing gears. All that in a straight line. In bends it is way faster than other motorcycles due to the excellent suspension, setup and brakes.

I got a 2022 Svartpilen 125 and my top speed is 80mph (I do not weight much and I removed unnesessary metal tools from a battery chamber under a seat to got around 2kg less weight). I pressume that during a colder days and with a slick tires it could go even faster. Acceleration is not so bad but I won't give you a figure, but I easly outaccelerate every car when moving from lights. The only other bike I ever used was some 300cc Honda (not remeber model) and she had a slighty worse acceleration but it was very old bike used for training purposes by many people so it was far from it's prime capabilities.
