@@TopherParkerCars I have a 1997 Lincoln Town Car. It has adjustable steering. I don't mean an adjustable steering WHEEL. I mean there's a switch where you can set how sensitive the steering is. There are white lights next to the front turn signals that light up the corner you're about to turn onto. The instrument cluster is all digital, and you can swap between trip odo, and fuel economy readouts. You can switch between Imperial and Metric measurements. Auto-leveling rear air shocks. It has a code lock on the door and a remote lock-unlock/trunk keyfob. In 1997.
My now deceased best friend’s first car was a 94 Grand Marquis he got from a neighbor (who never drove it much) for $800. He bought it when he was 16 and I was 14 (2010ish.) We tore up the dirt roads of St Clair county Alabama in that thing. We’d ride on the big hood or big trunk, or drag each other down the dirt road on a trash can lid holding on by a rope. That thing was so comfortable you never felt bumps. It’s a shame he got rid of it simply over a rear main seal leak. I was so mad at him for that lol. I got into law enforcement and let me tell you the Crown Vic was the best cop car BY FAR in every way, except speed. I quit working in it but decided in 2020 to get a 2010 Crown Vic Police Interceptor, because I love it, and it reminds me of my buddy too.
I'm really enjoying seeing young people taking an interest in these older cars! These are the kind of cars that I grew up with and once they are gone, they will sadly never be seen again. I think the reason that the dashboard is a darker color is to cut down on sun glare. Lighter color dashes have a tendency to reflect that brightness right into your eyes, something that us older folks don't need! My Dad's last car was a 1998 Grand Marquis LS, which we sold after his passing. Now I wish I would have kept that car because I am sure it would still be going strong today. When he passed in 2005 that car only had 38,000 miles on it, so it had a lot of life left in it! And it was a real beauty in Wedgewood Blue with a medium grey interior, and those fancy deep dish lacy spoke aluminum wheels that really contrasted nicely with that blue paint. And you're so right about the door closure sound...like a vault! Ford had that solid sound perfected like no other car maker! I have heard other RUclipsrs also comment on how much they love that satisfying sound of solidity. Keep up the good work!
Auto journalists lost the plot somewhere--a car doesn't have to be a sports car to be a good car. It can be something that shields you from the vicissitudes of the road and outside world if it is. Which is what people saw as luxury for a long time (and what I still see as luxury--I want to be comfortable in a car). And frequently, when they are reintroduced to it, appreciate for what it is. What you really want to review is a 69-78 Marquis.... A few touches of the original, even bigger, Marquis were held over. The old Lincoln-Mercury division badge for a while, for example. The "ride engineered" plate in the front, as well as the ride-engineered ride--they used to ride floatier than this one. And the door closing action brings to my mind (I own one of these) the old doors (we had a '71 when I was a kid). It was a selling point for Ford cars that they were "well put together"--things fit together nice and tight. Cars didn't use to have built-in cup holders...people weren't always driving around with Big Gulps or something from a drive-through coffee shop. Nor does this have screens or built-in entertainment. I'm not old--48--but old enough not to have either interest in that or the patience for it. So the instrumentation and layout are quite nice for me. I don't need to be entertained in a car--hundreds of thousands of miles I rode in cars without that; I learned to enjoy the ride for its own sake, or to rely on other things--and I don't want to fool around with navigating menus on screens that will break and cost a lot of money to repair. Colors used to be more varied and interesting. Our old one was dark green with darker green interior. My uncle had a yellow with green interior. But you could get dark blue paint (or two-toned) and white upholstery, etc.
I totally agree with you, sir. I’ve been reading car magazines since 1977 Cars Way more colorful. I think you can only get black gray and tan now give me a big powerful comfortable car. I don’t need it to go around a race track
Last 30 years I've bought 7 mint loaded low mile Grand Marquis. The most dependable luxury car out there. I drive to 7 different States to buy one. Mostly Park Lane Editions and also a rare CTE "Custom Tasca Edition". Mostly from elderly people that don't drive no more or who have past away "Estate Sale". The mint rare editions are getting real hard to find now as time passes.
9:05 the keypad can also be used to lock the doors even if you don't know the combination- (by pressing 7*8, 9*0 at the same time) after you enter your code it can also unlock all the doors, (3*4) as well as open the trunk. (5*6) You can set up to 3 of your own custom codes.
I was quite surprised by how giddy you were at the prospect of getting to review a FORD Panther Platform series. Lol. My daily driver is a 2010 Mercury Grand Marquis LS. It is Silver Birch in exterior paint and has the dark charcoal leather interior. And the sound of the door closing is 'substantial'. The skin of the exterior door panel is indeed lightweight. But if you were to go to a junkyard and look at the actual doorframe and its design, you can see why these cars were given a ☆☆☆☆☆ rating by the NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety). Administration. And these 4.6l V8 engines are not powerhouses by any means. They are all SOHC (Single Over Head Cam) engines. But if they are well maintained, they are very durable, reliable engines as you pointed out. Almost all have the plastic intake manifold which is prone to crack and leak coolant if driven long enough. These cars are fun to drive and easy to modify. And IMO still offer a better ride than most of the newer built offerings from Detroit. There was a reason these autos were used as police cruisers, livery vehicles, and taxis for the past 30+ years. They were not too bad on gas for as big as they were. They were reasonably powered for what they were designed for. And the 4.6l SOHC V8 engine was the most reliable motor ever built by Ford. These cars were also a breeze to work on and designed for daily abuse, use, and misuse. They took a lot, but they gave a lot in return. RIP Panthers🐆.
Dude, I’m on the toilet. Thanks for the vid, this kinda car is one of the only options financially for me, but your enthusiasm for it is making me exited actually, thanks 👍
I got a 97 LTC with 187k, still runs sweet as a nut. Well, the AC compressor went out last week, but I mean, the thing's 26 years old, give it a break.
I’ve had 4 Panthers. My first was a 1986 Grand Marquis LS loaded, my grandmother gave it to me in 1994 it was my first car. Had 50k on it. My second was a 1991 Grand Marquis LS carriage roof with the turbine rims. Beautiful car, then I had an ‘07 P71 Vic, now I have a ‘06 P-71 street appearance Vic. Can’t beat these cars. Most reliable cars I’ve ever owned👍🏻. Great video just subscribed, love your content!
Being body on frame actually helps with the ride over rough terrain and bumps. The reason this car has a somewhat harsh/firm ride is because Ford put a lot of effort and engineering into firming these cars up significantly over the years due to auto journalists constantly complaining about how the ride was too soft and floaty. I own an 07 Grand Marquis and for a fullsize car it handles amazingly well, has little to no roll (not sure if there's something wrong with that one or what, these should have barely any body lean), and a pretty firm ride. If you go back to the 65-78 era fullsize Fords the ride is so soft and cushy you can ride over bumps and legitimately not even feel them. Those cars having a perimeter frame like this one also helps a lot with that.
I have that exact year in the exact colors with almost the exact mileage. Lol. And I love it. Every time I go anywhere at least one person asks me if I’m interested in selling it. As far as fuel mileage,I get 22.5 religiously.
only buy a grand marquis with the air suspension it was standard in its last years same ride as the lincoln i had both same ride i have a 03 cartier never replace it with rear shocks buy new air bags
Never get the rear air suspension. I had that in my '98 and when the bladders breaks, it's TERRIBLY expensive. I just bought a 2009 and the bladder system had been replaced by a spring-based kit. Thank God! All parts/all systems need to be inexpensive to repair/replace. I'm gonna include this in my letter to Ford when I urge them to bring back the GM LS. Also have to write to congress for them to ALLOW cars to be made like this again. Gas will become cheap once Trump's back in office. We need to educate the public as to the virtues and desirability for EVERYONE to have a GM.
@@tcspersonal7889 New air bags literally are only about 60 bucks and easily installed - you can do it yourself, it's not hard. I have a 11 Crown Vic without air ride and only wish I had it. Ride's a little to harsh so going for either softer springs (which are hard to find). Already did the shocks (Monroes soften it up). Other than that you're right, these cars should be brought back, would buy one new.
I'd give it good marks. I've had it in a few unexpected tight maneuvers and it's handled admirably considering what it is. I noticed the overall gas mileage had dropped about 1 mpg and that was puzzling to me but that tank was partly on a couple vacuum leaks and when these cars have vacuum leaks they operate on different fuel and timing tables. Fixed those and noticed some improvement but I remembered today that we're on winter fuel and winter fuel has less thermal efficiency because they add more butane to help it meet emissions. But it's still very good. A cop used to tell me how lousy they averaged but those cars had 3.55 final drive and i have 2.73 and my right foot isn't nearly as heavy as hers. If you try a steady pedal pressure on mostly all highway miles in good tune 100 miles roundtrip or more with 2.73 gears they'd be surprised how decent they get. It's comfortable for shorter people or taller. It stops great with the upgraded brake pads i put on at jobber rates. The heat is fantastic since I put in a thermostat. It's a real pleasure to drive compared to some of the used vehicles I've owned. I saw a newer Mazda MX-5 today. Didn't even know they made a later model. Sharp, if you're 5'2" or so. Every front wheel drive Cadillac i ever owned I swore I'd never have another with the exception of an Oldsmobile 307 or Chevy 350 V8 in rear wheel drive. I'd choose one of those over a Lincoln Town Car. Otherwise these are really nice comfortable cars. Mine has fewer options than a Lincoln but I'd almost pay more for them to be that way. I might send for the first cheap rate rear sway bar sometime but that is about the only thing i don't have that i wish I did. I drove a 2002 E250 extended van back from Hilton Head with a 5.4 and never got below 20.5 but some tanks about 21.5. And I know there were 5.4's that got about 10-12 but they had HD tow package gears and that's where mileage difference is at in a lot of vehicles. Plus RWD is always better than 4x4 because of less friction and weight. People that tell you to be afraid of these because of OHC aren't worth their salt. They're afraid to fix things. GM and Dodge had plenty of things to fix too.
I have an '04 Lincoln Town Car. I'll drive it till the wheels fall off. I've had probably 5 panther platform cars from the LTD and Crown Vic on up. Have always driven full size Fords. Love 'em.

Are you old enough for Medicare? Most Medicare advantage plans provide perks of trans. (uber, lyft, etc.) to docs, grocery and gyms. I love my advantage plan. But we need a GM for the other things Medicare won't cover, such as my volleyball games and Sunday church. I just bought a 2009 GM. Has some expensive problems, but it will be worth it. Hey all, watch out. My insurance for 2000 Subaru Forrester went up 20% when I changed to this magnificent 2009 GM.
True. This is why I wouldn't get anything pre-1992. 5.0L is too big and expensive to run. The Aero-Vic in 1992 was a stroke of genius. Lighter and more aerodynamic in order to redeem the gas costs. But it IS a yacht compared to today's Toyotas, Nissans, etc, etc.

Hey all, watch out. My insurance for 2000 Subaru Forrester went up 20% when I changed to this magnificent 2009 GM.
i guess this guy hates old people
Actually it's not American. It is imported from Canada
Canada is in America, North America, as well as Mexico, so it is American made! It not US made
Close enough. But it wasn't "imported"; it was merely manufactured there for Ford USA.
Needs whitewalls.
Dude needs to look up the marauder
You didn’t watch the whole video and it shows! I mentioned it during the late driving portion
this isnt a land yacht. this car is small compared to the real cars from the 50s 60s and 70s
It is compared to modern standards
Man keep quiet
You have to let the over drive I kick in ease your foot off the gas a little thank you and she will take off for yah .
He not right about everything
