Imagine being eliminated from the Major because your PC crashed in the middle of a series-defining retake.
Well, Virtus.pro doesn’t have to. That happened to them. And it could happen again.

It’s just so unfortunate since this was quite literally an external factor, the game should not be in such a state where it’s crashing in rounds like this with so much at stake. Imagine if the players all agreed to replay though, that would’ve been such a show of sportsmanship.
Players don’t have a choice they can make to replay a round. PGL rules state that if damage is taken the round won’t be replayed. Doubt they would’ve agreed to replay it anyway tho.
@@luigichi4851 its Valve rule im pretty sure that PGL follow, i might be wrong
It's weird because most other esports you would see a replay and sometimes a full game replay for something like this but CS wouldn't even replay a single round. Pretty dumb
Wasn't to do with the game, they've said it was an nvidia driver issue so basically nothing anyone could do to stop it.
It was an nvidia driver crash
there were so many game losing crashes in this lan event. this was the only one that was made famous since it was the final slot for playoffs

I'm sorry but equipment failure provided by the tournament should be an automatic rematch.
Well it's not the hardware's fault it's the software... The billion dollar company making fat stacks from weapons with pixels on them just hasn't fixed their competitive shooter game after 6 months...
then players could fake equipment issues, the rules are the rules for a reason
@@RisTeezethat’s why there are admins to make that call with all of the context of the issue being able to be taken in. At least in every other FPS competitive game it’s like that.
it was actually due to a nvidia driver crash, not the game itself.@@LieutnantQ
Shouldn't be a rematch, but you could definitively replay the round.
There's quite a difference in prize pool. From 20K now to anywhere between 45K and 500K for winning. I would not be able to be so calm as an org about this...
And sticker money from playoff capsules. Very unlucky
You're right but I am quite sure that no player is thinking like that.
What makes it even crazier is if he didn't miss the shot in ruins, g2 would already run to save without a second thought
Without this crash, VP would most likely be at the Playoffs.
Gaben hates my pickems.

In G2’s recently uploaded video, their comms mentioned “if we don’t get a pick, we save”. So yea. They definitely would conceded the round if Jame stayed alive
Jame has insane composure. If it were me I'd be injured from smashing my head into the monitor lol. Great quality for an igl.
Another one adding to this occured on this Major too. On the Furia Vs KOI series, on Vertigo Furia's c4 just bugged and dropped out of the map. If I´m not mistaken it occured on round 5. Valve quickly fixed but imagine what could have this meant if it was on an important round of the series.
Two years ago I think, during Champions KJ turret bugged during a crucial round and Riot replayed the round (the game went on to OT). Knowing the current state of CS2 I think Valve should do something to let the tournament organiser handle this kind of situations, because with that amount of money and the players careers on the line they can't continue using the "It is what it is" approach
You mean the state of nvidia drivers
@@PeakKissShot even is it was a driver failure they could have atleast replayed the roind again like how riot did. This just cost VP playoffs
@@zecomrade82 that then makes it unfair for g2
@@zecomrade82people have already explained it. It's to stop teams forcing faking technical pauses to try to slow down the momentum of the other teams and has always been like this when it has occurred at other tournaments. It's shit but unfortunately all the teams knew that when they participated in these events. And to be fair even G2 had their problems with Nexa as well mid game on one of their matchups but they still won it.
The turret wasnt bugged it is an interaction that was in the game that was fixed by the nerf it would shoot then snap back to its original facing position
There's really no excuse for this. G2's placing in this tournament will always have a stain on it. The fact that the pros aren't absolutely raging is mind blowing.
multiple pro's spoke about it, but they're also all aware that there's nothing to do about it, it's part of the game, always has been, gotta hope the bug's are fixed in the uture and that's it
As if this exact situation hasn't happened a thousand times in CS:GO too. There is a reason why there is and has been a rule in place for a long long time stating if there are any technical problems and any player has taken damage, the round will be played out. It's really just a part of the game.

This is like having a heart attack mid basketball match
About 4:46 when the Bot cuts out right when the stutter starts. It's not PGL's Bot, it's how the automatic caster works in the game. It works based on movement and if a player is close to an enemy. If a player starts stuttering, or his game crashes, there isn't any movement (there aren't constant frames), so the Bot is not switching to that player's POV because it doesn't detect any "action".

Pgl cannot make CS2 more optimized.
Jame is always Ice Cold, it's all those years of Jame Time he's been preparing for this.
Caster/someone at the other end should have the means to immediately freeze the match when it becomes apparent it's equipment failure. Even if they "figured it out", the player in question should have the opportunity to defend until they die.
The rule that a round cannot be replayed if damage is dealt has always been bullshit. That rule has been in CS major for a long time, and it just goes to show how less they care about the game to update the rules. I have seen Riot change initial ruling for their esports many times, but won't happen in cs even when justified.
Also for this, i think monesy said they were going to Save unless they got a kill, and that crash gave them the kill to retake.
I mean if my game crashes last round like that am done for the day ngl, can’t imagine they were playing properly after that
I’m sure when the sticker check clears, they’ll forget about it
Not only any rounds, it's a game winning round!
What to me feels crazy about this story is that there is no CS equivalent to Riot's Chronobreak as seen in LoL. Does a catastrophic software/hardware issue happen? Revert a couple seconds from the failure point. For competitive games, and especially with Valve being so big on the software game, having a feature like this incorporated into their engine feels like it should be an absolute top priority.
Meanwhile at R6: "First time?"
Yeah, this video made me remember the Hibana pellet glitch which had ESL restart basically every second round.
ah yes. this game is just so ready for a Major. still waiting for the full release of CS2.
Valve lost their touch and it's plain to see. They should have put out a statement as soon as that happened since a lot of people have their doubts about CS2. I like the shift to blame the Nvidia Drivers though, something that handles graphics would surely just quit the application to desktop without an exception error and not take the whole desktop session with it... 🙄 guess we'll just have to wait for the logs, oh wait.
The game has a history of gpu driver crashes. From the days it was in closed beta to as early as today, literally. Reddit is packed full of threads from people who experience the game crashing not only itself but also said GPU driver. Ironically the most threads are not about Nvidia, I'll let you guess which red cousin takes the crown here.
Also, this isn't a simple crash either. It had a hard crash because that's how badly the game screwed up. Maybe the huge backlog of issues would hint at.. you know, the game not being the best coded game on the market?
What? No, quite the opposite. If the game crashes then it would exit to the desktop, but if it's the GPU's drivers that fail, then EVERYTHING related to graphics crashes, and that includes the desktop. Do you even understand how a PC works? It's not shifting blame, it's simply not Valve's fault.
"Its part of the game" no my G it is not T_T...

With this crash every G2 fan roared in victory... NiKo got robbed by rng once, this was pittance. Its tragic for jame and vp but it happens.
It was an unfortunate accident, and this thing also happened a lot in the past, player played with no audio, a broken hit reg, bomb missing, monitor off etc. Like any other sports, that is a variable that we can't control, perhaps it's just an accident, or you may unlucky. no round rematch is the craziest part. and G2 celebrating the win like they earned it and screaming was just kinda sad.
G2 didn't deserve to go further

The thing is if he crashed but stayed behind new box like when he first stopped they probably win the round cause G2 still save, but cause he got dragged out by I assume the game repeating the last input it got he walked into the open and G2 kill him for free and go for the retake
Hooxi's spray was even so bad that he killed him mid magazine. Jame had the best spot to hold with the AWP and G2 had no more utility. Round should've been reset.
Is it not possible to make it that if a player crashes out of a game the game stops and can be restarted from the positions before the crash?
Well it would give the ct side much more time to think about how to win the retake. While the t sides plan is already in full play too late to change it now. But it's better than just taking the L I guess. But yeah having a pause option would be nice give the casters a button they can press if someone obviously crashes as they would likely see it first or have someone watching closely for it.
Tournament runners are idiots for not replaying the round
the game is badly optimized, the nVidia engineer in Gamersnexus interviewed about nVidia Reflex, funny enough they took cs2 as an example, and the engineer said that they did not implement nVidia reflex as it could be. Props to Jame for his good calm composure, and also a very good explanation from his side, I agree with Machine on the part that he is a very interesting character.
Given how pretty the game looks and still gives better performance than it's peer, the game is pretty optimised
I've seen admins restarting the round while keeping the scoreboard the same. They should've done that or just allow 1 instance of the possibilty of the crashes appearing, for both teams. IF the game crashes a second time like that then it should be no go for the team.... It's dissapointing to see how it went for the team and Jamie.
Why cant Valve just create a chronobreak system like the one League has? Then allow organizers to use such software. They could just rewind a few seconds, not necessarily the whole round itself

Can someone explain like I'm 5 why the round can't restart after damage is done? This sounds like an arbitrary rule that should have an exception for CLEAR technical problems.
I don't understand why people seem to act as if this is a new thing. Games have been crashing at every single major thus far, and it will continue to happen for every major going forward. That's just the nature of the tech in use. You'll never find a Windows computer that is safe from crashing, even if the game is perfect. Even if the hardware is perfect, the drivers etc. There are just too many moving pieces.
Dimitri my boi!
Crazy how League, one of the biggest Esport tournaments in the world, will roll back 10 seconds of a match when a bug happens, or do a complete rematch if things go crazy enough. Counter Strike just lets to match keep going and not do a forced rematch due to a technical failure on a player's machine. I understand its final round and all but come on. No one really knows if they would of won or lost if the game/pc didn't crash. Glad to know he took it on the chin and kept a level head about it all though.
