Today we're gonna build one of the oldest mob farms that exists in the game which gives a lot of XP and loot! I hope you guys enjoy it!
Welcome to this EASY XP FARM tutorial in Minecraft 1.20! In this step-by-step guide, you'll learn how to construct a highly efficient XP farm that allows you to quickly gather tons of xp in Minecraft. This is a Spider Zombie creeper skeleton zombie and more farm. The best part is that you can build this farm in survival mode, making it accessible to all players. This tutorial works on both Java and Bedrock!

For anyone who finds this video in 2023 or later:
If you are confused about why he included a bed in needed stuff to build this farm, this farm works best at day time. Minecraft has a limit to mobs spawned at a time so at night time when there are other mobs on the ground the mobs spawn rate at the farm gets affected. So to overcome this bring that bed to the platform you built under your farm and place it there. Try to sleep every night so mobs only spawn in your farm and not in the world.
Bonus info: Also make 48 carpets and make that pattern he showed in the video. Spiders are a real pain. As they can climb, they obstruct other mobs from falling in the killing chamber. I learned that the hard way.
Hey nothing spawns for me, I did exactly like the tutorial stated but used oak planks, is the issue there?
@@smokygt Yes I think thats the issue because as far as I remember I haven't seen mobs spawn on wood planks. Alot of youtubers recommend using non flammable blocks like cobblestones, deepslates, smooth stones etc.

Yo same same these tutorial RUclipsrs are all filler nowadays
@@Cody_MTB this tut is java
@@yoboicookie Should be the same for Bedrock though I would think
Reasons why it “DOESN’T WORK” for a lot of you:
This isn’t something you can leave and come back to a bunch of monsters filled in it. You need to stand at the base of the spawn for awhile, just afk. Monsters don’t spawn everywhere all the time. They have a range in which they won’t spawn and they’ll even DE-spawn so as not to take up too much performance of the game.
The reason why it is so high in the air, why the chute is 22 blocks long, and why they place slabs on top is so:
A. Monsters WON’T spawn on the ground below
B. Monsters won’t spawn within 22 blocks from the player
C. Monsters don’t spawn on slabs
Therefore the only place for monsters to spawn is INSIDE the box
Be patient, after like 2 minutes, for me, the farm is full with like 20 mobs

A few tips:
1. Replace the down slabs with campfire to make the farm automatic (you can put the fire out with a shovel and lite it back on with a flint and stone).
2. Protect the corners with blocks to prevent creepers from blowing up
3. Set render distance and simulation distance to minimum

This is such a versatile beginner farm- it gives you xp, yea but it's also a bone/bonemeal farm, an undead drop farm (weapons, arrows, armor, first carrot, first potato), a gunpowder farm, spider drop farm, and what not. Thanks for the video.
But do I need to build 100 blocks up to work?
@@AirrEnthusiast yes I think it is to make the land mob spawning rates not interfere with the farm rates
@@AirrEnthusiast The reason for the farm being 100 blocks in the air is because all mobs despawn outside a block radius of 128 of players. So by building it in the air it increases the chances of mobs spawning inside the mob farm as that is the only place mobs can spawn.
This xp farm works great thanks. I'm using Java 1.21 (august '24), and it works a treat. I built it above the middle of a small lake (not the ocean), and built up 150 blocks just to play it safe, it functions perfectly. I already had all the materials to build it (cobbled deepslate from strip mining for diamonds), so didn't take me anytime to collect the resources, and took roughly 1hr 20min to build (worth it in my opinion). @@brian_06 It doesn't matter as long as they are slabs you can use wood stone deepslate or anything to make slabs

100%! I did this without carpet and let me tell you, spiders will 100% clog your middle as well as congregate in the corners. 15 mins in and you'll wonder why you only got 1-2 mobs falling every 3 mins. Eventually by 30 mins you'll wonder why nothing happens. USE THE CARPET!!!
You will need 48 carpets total btw!

For anyone who thinks spiders won’t be a problem, I highly recommend stopping their spawns, they can clog the hole and prevent mobs from falling.
I can’t seem to prevent them from spawning I’ve tried carpet and slabs to no avail.
@@josephwatson-b3d Did you place them in the exact order in the video?
small notes:
1. if for some reason you are having trouble gathering supplies, AND YOURE ON JAVA, you dont need the full block roof, you can just use slabs all the way across the top and it will still shut out all the light.
2. if you dont want to use slabs you can just use torches, though slabs will technically be cheaper - my personal recommendation would be to save torches for caving
3. if like me you find yourself up at the top lacking resources becasue you miscounted, place a water bucket gowing all the way down your chute - just remember to block off the edges of your platform so the water doesnt push you over the edge
4. if you dont have a bunch of sheep for carpeting, or you just dont want to use carpeting and alternative is to increase the build height of the outer wall by 2 blocks, so 5 high instead of 2 high on the 4th layer you'll place 2 rows of signs or fence gates and above them youll place full blocks of water; then you just need to put the roof on and youre golden. spiders will climb the walls and will drown because they cannot come back down. for a visual example you can find any spider spawner farm tutorial and they'll use this method :)
5. an added benefit of building over the ocean is a much faster decent than climbing the ladder :)
fun fact: you can turn it into a creeper only farm by covering the "mob room"'s ceiling with trapdoors
Do you know if we can make more rooms on top? If yes, will it increase the spawn rate?

Very simple, useful and only 3minutes long! exactly what i was looking for, not like those crappy outdated 19minutes long videos that spent most their time in introducing themselves and random stuff and advertising some random product and then giving you an outdated ovverated farm to build just because theyre too lazy to show an actual farm.

Singleplayer world opened to LAN (but alone on the server), above the ocean at Y 163, with carpets.
Cheers mate, was looking for a comment like this 👍🏼
i got like 10 levels in a few seconds and soo much loot! thank you soo much!
For efficiency, I've added another layer on top of mine. Granted the mobs that spawn from the top layer and fall down die on impact, but if you want to loot and don't care about the xp then its a good solution. In addition if you only wanted xp and more efficiency then make multiple layers, but put them closer to the platform so the mobs spawn, but don't die to fall damage. Love this design, everytime I need an xp farm I build this one right here, cheers!🍻🍻
you got any ideas as to why no mobs are spawning? i’ve checked and there’s no light getting through and i placed the slabs on top so they arnt spawning there and i didn’t place any carpets not on peaceful aswell.

Maybe if you put a 1 block tall layer of water above the hole where the mobs fall, the mobs falling from the 2nd layer wouldn't die on impact?
Pretty important suggestion: creepers might be an issue in this build so just incase, put two blocks on either side of the chests to prevent you from going there and the creeper detecting you, and try bringing a cat up and getting it stuck on on of those blocks to prevent the creeper from detecting you and exploding. For those looking to build this farm (which I would recommend, its quite good) heres a common issue and the issue that that brings with it. Spiders will spawn and clog up the hole. Because its 2x2 it takes them an incredibly long time to fall and die, if they ever do. The only way to fix this is to either go up every couple minutes and shoot them with a bow through the roof or place carpets every other block.
The only problem with the carpets is that mobs cant squeeze under the roof anymore so theyll all get stuck in their spots in the carpets. The way to fix this is to raise the roof, but this now allows endermen to spawn. There shouldn't be a risk of them picking up blocks in ur farm unless you used rly weird materials like dirt or sand or something, however they are annoying and will teleport down to your platform so be ready for that. I just made a spot where i can safely kill them as opposed to making a roof as with a looting 3 sword i get lots of pearls which is nice.
Also this farm is stackable and i highly highly recommend 2 levels. Youll see an instant difference its crazy. I might try 3 levels but ngl it seems like it'd be overkill being that by the time i sort the items dropped, theres already a ton more mobs
How did you do layers
@@mrcharels456-yr7gf i added another layer of water just below the one already in there, and made them all one block closer to the middle so that the end of the waters stream was over the hole. (You only have to do this on 2 opposing sides). Then signs underneath. They can now drop from a greater height but the fall dmg is reset by the water and they won’t die when you get to higher layers. There is a chance that at high enough it’ll no longer slow them maybe ? but more than 3 layers is pretty unnecessary imo
@@tekiii1 could you place slabs as the roof to prevent endermen from spawning, while also allowing the mobs to roam and prevent spiders?
what if you make the 'elevator 3x3 instead of 2x2?
What about using slabs on the roof so its 2.5 blocks high? That should allow mobs to walk over the carpet without spawning endermen
Pour a bucket of water over the edge so you can easily swim back up to the roof if you need to change anything
I didn't bother slabbing the roof, I just used torches. This allows me to put in some Redstone Lamps in the roof, with redstone connections and a lever so I can turn the lights on inside to turn everything off in case I need to make some adjustments. I do similar things with zombie, skeleton, and spider spawers as well. Never turns to have an off swtich, even if you never have to use it.
How did you get it to work? Mobs don’t spawn for me
Basically as shown. Are you sure there is no light inside the structure (maybe spare torch from when you were building it) @@GManJan

for anyone building the farm I got 3 changes u should make. 1 when building the 1x1 tower up to 163 instead build it up to about 190-192. that way NO mobs can spawn on the ground and you'll still have plenty of space to build the farm
2. the carpets should NOT be optional. spiders can take up some of the mob cap which slows the farm AND they'll keep mobs from falling down the chute which further slows the farm
3. this one is optional but you can ignore all the slabs on the roof if ya just place torches. make sure it's well lit tho so 1 in each corner and some at the middle should be fine
you should also make an enchanting table setup to the right of where you would use the farm so you can enchant ur stuff. because I'd imagine this farm is being made so you can enchant ur first set of diamond gear or something. so having the enchant setup right at the xp farm is very convenient. along with an extra chest to store lapis, books, and other enchanting related items like tools

@@briangalindo384 if you copied the video step for step then it's not your fault. the video tells you to build the farm way too low. so the can even spawn in the caves that are too close. you should use at least 2 stacks and 1 block to pillar up BEFORE making that 4x6 platform. because mobs can spawn up to 128 blocks away so having a ladder that goes 128 blocks above the water prevents ANY mobs from spawning outside the farm. your Y level should be at LEAST 190 when you are using the farm.

I built this and I’m very proud of it, but I have one question. Why is it so high up? Is it a part of the functionality
Ya its a part of function + you should even make it above an ocean because if there is a cave under neath it may decrease its efficiency
Yes because the amount of mobs spawning is determined by a fixed number within a 128block sphere centered around the player. When you're that far up above the ocean, the only place for mobs to spawn is inside the farm, whereas if you build it at ground level, all the mobs in the nearby caves or around you in this 128 block sphere will reduce the spawn rates inside the farm.
Since the farm is quite expensive to build, it's best to maximise its rates, especially when it's not that complicated to do so

The mobs are falling on magma blocks and die, and water constanty washes the goods to hoppers, then of course, the end station is a double chest. Works like a charm! Thanks for the idea! :)
Thanks! Took me 50 minutes to build, works just fine 👍👍👍
Bruh it took me 2 hour of grinding just to get the building blocks and need the rest💀💀🥲
anyone know why the mobs are dropping at sloth speeds for me, i think they might be spawning hella slow
Same
This is acctually really good i was afk geting a snaack waiting for the mobs to build up and a disc dropped
For real
Thank you so much, ive made many MANY mob grinders and ive got to say this is the best one probably EVER keep up the good work youve earned a new subscriber
This is a useful tutorial not like the 20 minutes -1 hour video tutorials! But by the way do you have an Enderman Farm Tutorial by chance?
I have a question. When I want to build this farm on ocean, do I need to go up 100 blocks on y 163 or it doesn't matter?
I have this question too! Lol
Ocean surface is typically/always 63 so go up 100 blocks to y 163
the highest the better so the ground isnt as loaded
@@alzheimergaming thanks!
Great tutorial but the full blocks used on the roof can be skipped and you can just use slabs on the roof :)
Bro thank you so much mobs are spawning like crazy every like 10 seconds there is a big group of them
Gathering mets for this build took me longer than the actual build😂
THANK YOU SO MUCH!! THIS IS THE BEST XP FARM I EVER BUILD
Amazing work, dude. I really like the style of this video. Works like a charm. Liked and subscribed... ;)
To add layers:
1 block high wall: 72
4 platforms: 256
2 block high walls: 144
Trapdoors: 64
Carpets: 48
Eventual Roof: 324 blocks/slabs
Ttl Blocks (with roof): 796
Ttl Blocks (w/o roof): 472
Wow! Java !.21 works like a charm! I got 36 from zero in like 10-15 minutes, definitely faster than mining quartz in Nether. Plus, I had a creepers farm previously created, now looks it don't need it anymore. As this one produces tons of gunpowder + hundreds of arrows and even red stone! Thanks a lot!!!
Hey i just build it on 1.21 but mine wont spawn mobs fast enough. where did u build it and how?
This is by far the easiest and most effective (for regular mobs) farm I’ve made I’d recommend building at least 2 layers and watch the mobs flow in
idk where im supposed to get 1284 of a single block in one day except dirt, but i hope it works
Edit: it worked. i made it out of dirt.
wood...
Cobblestone generator
Literally tool like 20 min to mine
just go strip mining and you’ll get cobblestone and ores
just chop down trees because logs give you 4x blocks
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS TUTORIAL!! THIS IS MY FIRST MOB FARM THAT ACTUALLY WORKED! 😊😊😊
Did u use the wool when building?
Hi I am on 1.20 bedrock and have built this but no mobs are spawing at all, any idea why?
Me too I don't know why
What block did u use?
@Mako-st6yr does it work for you?
@@somebody6631 yes can’t use netherrack
@@1beannmade that mistake my first time building one lol
Doing my first ever minecraft hardcore world and this farm works absolutely amazing. Thank you for the easy tutorial o7
Spiders are still spawning with carpet design.
Something I usually to as well, keep a grindstone nearby. Combine bows and armour so they don't take up as much space
I build the same but nothing respawn
Same
Build a zombie spawner farm its a lot easier
It worked but i get very low amount of mobs i did everything you said.
any fix?
Did you find how to fix it?
Is this only for java edition or does it work in bedrock as well. Cause mine isnt working for some reason
my problem was I built above a river biome when I moved it, it worked as shown. that may be your problem I'm on bedrock as well
@@colinjacoby5905 omg ty i just spent like 5 hours doing this and it didnt work
Don't use carpets on Bedrock
So you shouldn’t build it in a river on bedrock?
very good thank you i needed this for mending works perfectly and fast
It don´t work for me. I play on bedrock and follow the tutorial, wait abt 5 mins in day and still no mobs showing. I build it on river near my home. Please help me
dosent work on bedrock
@@rXv3rbare you sure?
It does work on bedrock, you just have to have like twenty blocks of distance to the landing platform. Don't ask me why though. But it works on my map
Try making the build in any deep ocean.
Java no bedrock
Made the previous version in my 1.20 world and just made this in my 1.21 world. Works like a charm.
Only changes I did was to make the plattform, where I stand, larger to fit chests, anvils, grindstone etc and to glass it in.
Hey will dirt work lol
@@lilshrimp7318 the farm works with any solid block and slab
any idea on what y level the farm should be built in if built on land??
Works great, thanks! I suggest people doing this bring a few more blocks than you think you need because there will be support blocks to place others and stuff like that
Thank you for the tutorial! The farm works great!
I have built this farm above the ocean on bedrock and doesnt spawn anything :(, i also went inside it multiple times and in one of the squares there seems to be light which also i have never put any torches or anything like that
Same bro
Same bro
Did you know how to fix it? Mine is pure black up top and still hardly anything spawns. 1-2 mins every 5 minutes
Same here hopeing for help
I spent all this time doing this shit nothing is spawning I'm pissed
looks great, one question tho: Do you NEED to use slabs for the roof?
slabs stop them from spawning on roof
Great farm for early game xp stuff. Use it for my tools all the time, and helped me out while prepping the 900k/hr pillager farm. Took me only 2 in-game days to build this.
Yo bro how do I increase the amount of mobs that spawn because for me I waited like 2-3 mins and still not a single mob came down
@@zenaku8485
1. Make sure the farm is over a body of water that is a couple chunks from land.
2. You need to AFK at the base of the farm for the mobs to spawn
3. Make sure you build everything in the video. The trapdoor are important to get the mobs to fall into the water
@sniclops15 wait a few chunks away from the water?!?!
@@sniclops15and also does this work in bedrock
I have a question can I use cobblestone instead of smooth stone
I built this on the Nintendo switch just now in Minecraft 1.21, identical to this tutorial’s. It works very well.
