I would not use the factory grease if you can avoid it. It was basically like valve grinding paste. I also was a little rough on my screws, i think they are just cheap. I like the 1000 so much, I’d like to pickup the 500 series. I also started with a Lews 75. The bail spring broke in less than 2 months of heavy use, but i will say my man at the NE/PA Lew’s warranty claim can help you out with free parts.
Good review. I have been a fan of the cheap Shimano's for years. I have a 500 Sienna that I use for ultra light. I still use a couple of AX 1000's from the 90's. I believe they were 12$ then. I think they replaced it with the FX series. IMO. Some of the best basic economy reels.
