If you ever get '99-'02 working, you need to try the telemetry function after you run a few practice/quali laps at a track, it's simply way ahead of its time and it's something that, although a bit excessive, I wish was present in more F1 games.

Yes, it was. F1 2002 was released in June and it had the old layout. F1 2002 by SONY was released late in the year and had the new layout.
