Two - I repeat - two hundred. Congratulations not just for reaching such a number but arguably more importantly keeping the quality so high per episode. Kudos.
Great show, congrats on the 200!! Dave, during the Doom segment, I think you missed that they were saying that the Dreamcast Port is the definite version of Doom 64, not the original Doom!
200 wonderful episodes! Proud to have been a TWIRler since the beginning (of 2024) and good to know the money is being spent wisely on these expensive special guests!
Congratulations on the 200! Hilarious show, especially at the end. Your antics had me in stitches! Have a great Christmas and enjoy your holiday break guys. I'll be hanging out for the show to come back in Jan 25. On a side note for Chris... Yes in Australia we had the full uncensored version of Carmageddon.
I don't know if it is the longest, but one that springs to mind would be "From Russia with Love" - the film came out in 1963, the officially licensed game in 2005 - 42 years later, beating 'Plan 9 from Outer Space' on the Amiga, released 35 years after the film. But Aaron might be onto something with Wings.
I think Alfred Hitchcock - Vertigo (2021) may be a stronger contender than Wings as it's a direct adaptation of a specific film rather than taking inspiration from a genre as Cinemaware tended to do.
Congratulations and thank you to all of the show-runners and guests throughout the year and for the milestone 200. Always look forward to this every week. Let’s aim for 20K subs for 2025!🎉
quick update to the longest gap between a film and a video game adaptation. Not licensed due to it being public domain, but the 1987 Spectrum game 'starring Charlie Chaplin' is based on several of his films, the first one being 'The Immigrant' from 1917. So that's a 70 year gap.
The great thing is retro goes in cycles. I've played various 8 and 16 bit games in recent years, giving that nostalgia hit. But after hearing Dave mention Morrowind, which i've not played since probably 2005, i reckon id get that same hit if i booted it up now. Congrats on show 200 guys, you all do an amazing job. 🎉
Congrats on episode 200 - my opinion on collecting real hardware.. although the nostalgia element is important its not the complete answer. I received a C64 Maxi (Retro Games) for Christmas 2019 and yes my nostalgia peeked by play all the old games from my childhood, BUT I also enjoy discovering games for the first time.. I then started wanting to collect hardware, I now own an Amiga CD32 , a Commodore 16( my first micro received 40 years ago this Christmas) and a Commodore Plus 4 ( just because I saw it going cheap on ebay) I now am an avid retro games collector and don't see me stopping anytime soon. I purchased a Spectrum ( Retro Games) a system I never owned back in the day, and am currently exploring and enjoying its library for the first time. So its not just the nostalgia element that drives the interest, its the quality of the games and the hardware.....
Artur, the guy behind the Carmageddon port, has already done many ports of PC games for the Amiga. BUT, in his latest projects, he clearly targets a Vampire accelerated Amiga which will run the port much better than a 68060. It's up for discussion if a Vampire counts as 680x0 Amiga or not 😉 but for sure it's not an Arm based accelerator...
One that has to be up there for longest gap between film and game the Italian job (the original) film came out 1969, the game on the PS1 2001 so a 32 years, and I personally consider real hidden gem as so late in PS1 life cycle
Bride of Frankenstein movie released in 1935 - video game publisher 39 steps on the C64, Speccy and Amstrad CPC 1987 - 52 year gap - possibly the longest gap?
Emulation wasn't a new thing (relatively speaking).. I remember seeing a program that would load and run zx81 games on a spectrum. that would have been 83-84.... probably the first use of emulation I can recall.
There needs to be a much more approachable and cheaper FPGA solution for it to become a really accessible solution for the mas market. Tinkering with slotting boards and test equipment together just won't cut it for a 'mainstream' retro audience. As for CRTs, if I have one of my VIC-20s hooked up to a composit CRT and the other upscaled to a flat screen the difference is still massive. With the CRT looking so much better. with the old equipment. And scan lines etc on a flat screen still don't cut it when you see them side-by-side. But does that really matter to play the game... That's purely opinion IMO.
Yes. I watch MVG, but that video, I ended up abandoning. It was a "this is how I feel about retro right now" while lacking the awareness to realize he was speaking for himself. For _me,_ this hobby is all about the hardware. The software is an excuse to own and use the hardware. I'm also motivated by the desire to recreate the feeling of the late 80s, 90s, and early 2000s. To me, it feels like we've given up so much in the last couple decades, and while a lot of amazing things are now possible that I couldn't have dreamed of back then, simultaneously, a lot of things that were possible back then are just way more trouble now. I miss owning things. I miss tangible stuff. I miss every place you went, there was a CD player that you could drop an album in and listen together. I miss TV being a social thing that, even if we didn't watch it together, we kind of did, because it was on at the same time and we both had that same experience which we could share later. I miss local businesses being part of a community, rather than emailing someone from India about a product I bought and had shipped from Belgium that was made in China. Sitting down in front of a CRT with a gamepad playing a game that was completely written and QA'd before I bought it ... that makes me feel like I'm still in a period of time that made sense. A time when we didn't fight about whether we could still be family if you've taken a vaccine, and had some trust that someone out there was in charge and knew more than we did about things we don't understand. That's a lot to rest on the shoulders of Mario and Sonic, but the future didn't turn out to be quite what I'd hoped it would be, and I wouldn't mind going back.
Scam of the year?... I was there 3000 years ago when the Vega+ didn't happen... Unless you are showing me a working prototype board when the project starts meaning you've done all the donkey work I'm not even glancing at my wallet
Keep Retro Alive in '25!
Literally just coming in to write this. Great minds! 😅
Oh it's GO TIME! Merry Christmas everyone :D
Merry Christmas, Chris!
Deep Dive in '25 :)
Merry Christmas Neil. Thank you for the shout out to Jessica. It put a big smile on her face. Happy Retro New Year 🎉
Neil told me about it before recording he was really pleased about it! (Dave)
I've had bit of a crap times lately and these episodes really brighten up the gery days of winter, thank you all. This is a bit of mental medicine.
Two - I repeat - two hundred. Congratulations not just for reaching such a number but arguably more importantly keeping the quality so high per episode. Kudos.
Pfft I preferred it back in the old days. 😂 Get it, because it’s Retro and ….oh never mind. Congrats to the whole team. Keep on keepin on. Great show.
Here because LGR gave you a shout out!
Light the lamp not the rat, the lamp not the rat!
Laughing all the way through that. "You do know it's a video and not a zoom call with your mates yes?" Asked my wife sarcastically.
🤣🤣🤣
Amazing show again guys. Great to see Aaron again. Great 2024, congrats on 200 episodes. Happy new year.

The best of 25 will be keeping creative alive.
Congratulations on 200 and Happy Christmas.

Great show guys. Saturdays aren't the same without TWiR. Have a lovely Christmas

happy Christmas guys looking forward to episode 400

Well done on reaching 200!!
Been with ya since 54
Neil it's time to clean or buy some new headphones
Merry Christmas TWiR team, Duncan, and all TWiRLers!
Congrats on 200 episodes, Merry Christmas and have a happy 2025! 🥳🎄
Possibly the episode I’ve smiled and laughed with the most :) keep up the good work guys and congrats on episode 200!
Congratulations on the 200. A bit unfortunate there's a focus on Carmageddon with what happened in Germany yesterday. 😩
It's nice to see Chris back, if only once and a while.
Merry christmas! Awesome show with great guests this week!

Here's to 200 more!!! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year guys!
Nice to hear Aaron on the show - The lack of an accent is refreshing (at least for my central Appalachian ears).
Merry Christmas !!!
Next guests Stewart Lee and Charlie Brooker 🤗
Merry Christmas
Bring more retro alive in 25.
You could have called it The SuperSAGA. ;)
Happy Christmas, retro fans.
Retro high In ’25 🔥

25 is ALIVE! (Like Johnny 5)
Keep Chris on the show
Merry Christmas TWIR! BTW your chapters are a bit broken, as there's no such time as 37:77...
Fixed, thanks.
Make it come alive, in '25
Bride of Frankenstein movie released in 1935 - video game publisher 39 steps on the C64, Speccy and Amstrad CPC 1987 - 52 year gap - possibly the longest gap?
Great vid guys! Is the 2nd guy on the panel American?
Yes he is! Thanks
Actually, the fastest real Amiga from the past is one with the Blizzard PPC overckocked to 330 MHz, just saying, 🙂
I'm with Dave, Morrowind is modern gaming 😉
Minor clarification. The Doom 64 port is claimed to be the definitive port of the Doom 64 game not of all versions of Doom...
How about that slogan: "Make gaming thrive in 25!"?
How about "creative thrive in '25" ? :)
old machines alive in 25
Horrific time to enter the games industry. Let's hope that things turn around over the next couple of years

I think the thing was a remake of a fifty's film
200 shows... All I know is, the Ultima series is the best and the Amiga is not dead.
I feel like mvg's points he raises are mostly personal feelings and calls it how the community feels about it, and so he's more wrong then right..
Yes. I watch MVG, but that video, I ended up abandoning. It was a "this is how I feel about retro right now" while lacking the awareness to realize he was speaking for himself.

Is Chris playing strip poker there?
Not during the show but yes, check his channel!
