Even god's angel can't save us now, it's too late. Her video projection of scenes during this song at her concerts would have given you a lot more hints. By the way, that's not feathers she's singing about, but fetters.
The live acoustic version of this song with Howard Stern hits totally different, and was the first time I heard her and realized she could SING sing. Definitely recommend checking it out if you get a chance!
