Old buddy, you are in the best years of your life. We have 4 kids, a boy and 3 girls, each two years apart. As soon as I was able I took them for rides on the trails of Wyoming....sitting on the tank with full protection on them. The kids used to wait for their turns and would complain if somebody got a longer ride. Soon, Mother and I had all four kids trailing us on their dirt bikes and having good family time. Sometimes when I look back I cringe thinking about some of the rough trails I took them on. My son only knew one gear....top gear, wide open. He paid the price and didn't end up a big dirt bike fan....I could never get him not to "whisky throttle" the bike. My daughters took a more logical approach and became so skillful that I had no worries about taking them anywhere I went. In fact, my oldest daughter began to bump my rear tire or pass me if I lagged. We have had so many wonderful adventures....from hiding in mountain caves during thunder/lightning storms to arrowhead hunting/picnics. I hope that your family has as much fun as we've had. The kids are all grown up today and have moved away with families of their own but still talk about riding together. And, me, I'm an old guy who needs some repairs right now to get back on the trails. But, hell, I'm only 73 so I've got some years ahead of me.....now where did I put my glasses and training wheels?
Tom, that sounds like a really wonderful family adventures you guys had! I hope my family can have one hobby we are all crazy about, and of course hopefully it will be a dirt ;) thanks for sharing my friend! :)
@@dirtniron I hope you do, too. Those were the best years of my life and I think that it helped to keep the kids away from drugs, etc that are too prevalent in our society.....they were 'high' on riding. Three of them are engineers and one is a computer whiz. Keep the Faith
Thanks for this advice/encouragement. I just hit 49 have 2 boys 7&11 we are getting a honda 50 to start today. Plan is to get boys slowly up to speed then mom and dad will follow. I've never ridden before but I had a dream about the adventures you mentioned here.👍
Suzuki jr50 or Kawasaki kdx50. The best bike by far to learn on. Three height settings (two suspension and one seat adjustment) two gears (slow and torquey (hidden inside the gear box) and fast and boggy) chain drive, kicker is on the right (correct) side of the bike rear brake is foot controlled unlike the pw50. My son was able to ride the bike at 4.5 years and never needed training wheels because of the low seat height. Either way he loves riding now because of the gradual learning system we used to get him going.
Perhaps if you think he is ready for a clutch but not yet ready for a step up in size maybe you could try him on a klx110l? from memory they are slightly taller than the standard 110 but still smaller than a 125f
When your boy gets to the 85 2T stage go straight to the super mini. Skip the 85 2t bike. Not enough bottom end to do trails so he is constantly on the pipe which makes for a scary/dangerous riding situation. I recently went for a ride with. 12 y/o on a super mini. I couldn't shake him...
lot of kids start in their teens, I think your boy can still fall in love with dirt! my son is also not so motivated at the moment, I am not pushing it on him.. need him to get more excited and start asking me to ride
I have never sat on a dirtbike I weigh 210lbs live in Houston tx and am 6ft 4in is a 2002 yamaha 225 ttr good for me? Or should I save up to get a 2017 ktm 150 xc-w i plan on doing trail riding so I'm wondering if not having as good of a bike will make me less able to keep up with others on the trail and if so how much worse off will I be with the yamaha 225 ttr
You'll feel like you grow out of the 225 very fast because they have no power, I don't recommend starting on a 250 mx but get a used 230 or 250 enduro for cheap and you might be able to resell without losing much money. A wr250f would also be decent that you could just uncork later when you want more power.
you are big boy, but for the very beginning 225 is probably not a bad option, however you will want to have more bike very soon, as mark mentioned wr250 is good option too. get used bike, learn some basics and then sell it without loosing any money and upgrade to full size 250 4 stroke maybe..
How old is your 8 yo son? My son is 7 and about 4'2". He's a beginner but is very coordinated and will probably pick it up very quickly. He has a BMX bike and jumps and rides the pump track w/o fear. I'm concerned if I get him something like the 50f, he'll outgrow it in size or ability way too fast. Any thoughts for me? You're son is handling that bike well, how tall is he and how much experience does he have (at the time of this video)? TIA!
Question do you know where i can see all off road kawasaki bikes cause on their websait i think there are not all bikes cause i cant find like the 2020 models?
Great review, thank you so much!! How tall was your kid when you first got him this bike? After more than a year, does he still ride it? My oldest son (Marco) will be 9 in May and is 4' 7'' tall; I'm trying to figure out if this bike might be a good size or too small Unfotunately where I live (Panama) Honda does not sell these pit bikes, so I'd have to import one from the United States and there is no way of getting him to sit on one of these bikes to try it out. Thanks for your help

Maybe this bike is an option for my daughter next to ktm sx 50.
I know how older bikes of them run. How heavy are those bikes?
yes, that would be great bike for trails, keep 50 for MX
