      I have the 'i got caught' feeling a lot as well Senpatientulo! The Ricoh GR III does make it easier to 'not get caught' lol but inevitably when you do you still feel creepy! Just part of the challenge. Asking does make it less so, but honestly you can't ask everybody, so I mix it up as much as possible. Thanks for commenting and watching!

      I literally still get a twinge of fear when I start out on my walks, but once I'm rolling it goes away. Nothing these people can do other than say no - even if they were to call me out, I just keep walking, don't owe them an explanation unless they say yes. And I still really don't have a good prepared 'reason' when I try to explain why I'm taking the pics. I need to work on that lol Thanks for watching Arturo!

    • @DozierGraphic
      @DozierGraphic  4 года назад +3

      Typically I stay with either 1m or 1.5m for snap focus. If you're shooting people walking down the street as they pass by you, I'd go for 1meter, but if you're doing more of a 'spray' at further distances then you might want to go to 2 or more, but remember anything 'inside' your meter choice will be possibly out of focus. On the streets, I stick with 1meter. Hope that helps!

    • @DozierGraphic

      Once you have it installed, you'll need to go to MENU, then in the Customize Controls (C), scroll to TOUCH AF settings, set to 'Full Press Snap' so it will work. Otherwise it will continue to try to focus on touch screen. Let me know if that helps. If it's not showing that you're successful updating to the 1.41 version, here is a very detailed video about the feature released today - ruclips.net/video/br6m_inHUS0/видео.html

    Nice video. I have had GR3 half month now. Really good and small camera. Is the only way to take snap-shot just press shutter button rapidly. It makes my camera to shake.

    • @DozierGraphic
      @DozierGraphic  4 года назад +2

      EXACTLY!!!! I don't like using the 'full press' method for Snap - it feels awkward to me! In my next video I will address this specific issue - but to answer your question here, YES - you can do it a different way, which is what I did this entire video. Instead of 'full press' for snap, all you have to do is go to MENU, then the first screen that pops up is FOCUS SETTINGS, there, the first option is FOCUS. Select that (FOCUS), then change the setting from AUTO AREA AF to SNAP (you have to scroll down a bit to find it). Once you set that, then no matter what you do, SNAP FOCUS is the only option you have. Even if you press the shutter button halfway, it won't focus, but it will read the meter. So THAT is the way to do it. Hope that helps, and was understandable, if not let me know. But it's funny cause I was sitting here wondering if anyone else had that problem. Thanks Harri!

    • @harrivayrynen
      @harrivayrynen 4 года назад +1

      DozierGraphic Thank you for answer. We can use user settings for this kind of setting to be selected very fast (with that dial on top of GR3). Thumb grip JJC is coming, hopefully next week. Then I am ready for streets.

    • @DozierGraphic
      @DozierGraphic  4 года назад +1

      @@harrivayrynen That's one thing about the GR3 - it definitely gives you more than enough options for settings, and I love the FN (function) button options. I actually use the USER mode with my snap focus as a custom setting. Once I 'figure it out for sure' I plan to do a MENU video. But I'm more of a photographer than teacher, so we'll see lol

  • @jonoschen
    @jonoschen 4 года назад +2

    Hi Jason, great POV... Did you use 'full press snap' focus setting, which you can use with AF, or did you use the snap focus setting? Man I'm going out to try this with my GR3 ASAP!! 😀

    • @DozierGraphic
      @DozierGraphic  4 года назад +5

      Yes, you def need to try it! I somewhat answered the Snap Focus question above with Hari, but to be specific on your question, I did NOT use the 'full press snap' focus setting. I tried that several times in the past, and just don't like it. It makes me want to REALLY push down quick and the camera ends up jerking down, and it's obvious to the subject I'm pressing the shutter. It's probably just a psychological thing using a DSLR so long, but I'm so used to half-pressing for focus then pressing full to release the shutter that a 'full press' and bypassing the half-press is difficult. lol And the screen is so small I can't easily look to see setting I'm in, etc so I'm just going to go with the actual SNAP only setting, turn off the REVIEW and just wait til I'm done shooting to 'open the package' and see how my images turned out. It was really fun to wait until I got back in the car to look - like 'opening a new package' on Christmas or something. Hard to explain, but a thrill only us photographers would understand lol

    • @DozierGraphic
      @DozierGraphic  4 года назад +2

      @@jonoschen that was a good read! Based on that, I feel pretty comfortable with my snap settings at 1.5 meters/320 (may go up to 400 to be more than fast enough shutter for bicycles, scooters, etc) f/9 (I like the soft roll off focus of buildings in background - too sharp and you lose a bit of the 'prominence' of the subject, and auto ISO no higher than 3200 on sunny day, 6400 on cloudy or lower light. Slowly but surely narrowing the settings down to a usuable 'guarantee' of sharpness. Thanks for the link!

    • @DozierGraphic
      @DozierGraphic  4 года назад

      Great timing on bringing that up Grandful. My podcast tomorrow discusses this. I'd like to hear your reasons for that viewpoint (I love discussion!). In my opinion, if you exclude photos of the homeless, you literally could not take most photos in downtown Indy. Due to covid, there are more homeless population in the metro areas than there are 'workers/visitors/casual' people milling about. They are part of the city, part of the fabric and can't be excluded if you're a street photographer. Besides, how do you know he's homeless? Maybe just sleeping. Not offended at all by your comment, and look forward to your reply. Certainly a topic worth discussion! Let's keep it civil of course. Thanks!

    • @DozierGraphic
      @DozierGraphic  4 года назад

      I will add that if they’re awake, I usually give them a buck or two. Lots of the homeless in Indy recognize me now and acknowledge me since i give them something.
