I actually think that NReal’s approach is the best right now, because: - it has the ability to provide several virtual screens - it has the ability to be used without a battery - it’s much lighter than the competition - its’ much cheaper than the competition. I don’t think the future of AR is in some insanely expensive and specialised high tech or some killer app, I think it’s about having something that actually enhances daily life in a simple way (like the virtual monitors). With something like this and a MacBook you can pretty much have a workspace on a train, or a plane, or a super tiny house, or whatever. It can actually make a difference in people’s lives, unlike the battery powered, expensive and heavy alternatives that focus on things nobody actually wants or needs.
I've been looking at these too. A lot of us don't care about gaming too much, but more care about what a huge extended workspace can do for us outside the office. So, these seem to accomplish that. I'm interested but have to wait to see what Apple announces.
These can't emulate a workspace unfortunately. At closer viewing distances, the screen size reduces dramatically. For example, at a typical monitor viewing distance, it comes down to only 19 inches diagonally so it is not going to replace any monitors. Its good for watching from afar as if you are seeing tv in your living room couch (That's when you get the advertised 100+ inch screen size).
I really enjoyed seeing the side eye from the other passengers you were getting on the flight… but I can see where these would be very useful as a compact monitor, especially if they work in clam shell mode
I bought these a few days ago and returned them because Nebula for Mac is broken and not working in The current version of Mac OS. Developers say the Mac is not their priority.
Try the new Rokid Max 215” 1080P @120Hz Video Glasses Luke. I just Pre-Ordered a pair. They ship in late May but you can get a prerelease set from Roku PR and offer your viewers a $20 discount off the prerelease price of $439. I think they’re better than this NReal product.

Thanks for this video - I ordered a pair a couple of days ago for Steam Deck gaming, but I am really intrigued by the Nebula on Mac functionality. Couple of questions while I wait for them to arrive here in NZ: Are three monitors available on all Macs? I use an M1 MacBook Air at work and of course that only supports a single external display. What resolution are the virtual monitors? Are they all the same, or is the single monitor available in higher resolution than multiples?
I realize this isn't exactly what you were asking about, but there is a company called DisplayLink that can enable you to run more monitors on that macbook air
From what I've seen in a vid by CraftComputing on these glasses; Nreal Air uses DisplayPort-over-USB-C to be fed video data from the system and it is the Nebula program (currently for MacOS, a Windows version is in-development) on the computer that creates three virtual 1080p60 monitors in a 3x1 landscape configuration, using DisplayPort's MST function to have multiple screens hooked up over a single port to the computer. However without the Nebula program, the Nreal Air glasses generate a single large 1080p60 display when used with a SteamDeck or gaming console. Using the adapter unit (which is basically a HDMI-to-USB-C converter, switching HDMI signalling to DisplayPort signalling for the USB-C connection) as an accessory purchase lets you run HDMI devices like PlayStation, XBox and Nintendo Switch to the Nreal Air, the adapter unit can also be used with Apple's Lightning Digital AV dongle to run the Nreal Air from your iPhone.
Nice video, except for the sponsorship: I haven’t seen too many non sponsered reviews on these, and the title is a little misleading since this was basically just a review and of the Nreal air glasses instead of a video about the upcoming Apple virtual reality products that the title says it’s about.
I'm actually proud of for keeping this design as quiet as they have, with the same lame mocked up render on every single related video for the past 4 years. RUclipsrs need to do better. ALL of you.
It will work as a second monitor for the M1/M2 ipads if you use it in Stage Manager and have a mouse and keyboard connected. It will also use the full width of the resolution of the glasses. Even in 3D SBS mode if you want to see 3D movies
What settings are you using on the MacBook? When I use them the projected Image is very blurry. Text is barely readable even when scaled. I also tried watching a movie but had to stop it, because the blur was to annoying. When i use my phone everything is fine.
Not quite the same but I reserved an Aptera vehicle and its going to stand out over any other transport on the road and I'm going to have to be okay with the attention. But the service it theoretically will deliver to me will be worth it. That may be true for Nreal's Air glasses. Time will tell. Apple hopefully will figure out their software limitations because that's always where they need desperate growth. Its time to infuse new perspectives in Apple some of their old ways aren't working in 2023. New usable and efficient software for iPads would be great!
In my opinion, a mixed bag, and I think every company has their own take and pros/cons to bring to the table when it comes to AR/VR headsets. When Apple finally releases theirs, it will be fun and interesting (and also entertaining) to see reviews in real world scenarios.
This is a compelling product but not at nearly $400. It’s an issue I see with all of these sponsored videos. If you didn’t have to pay for them or better yet are being paid to use them yeah everything seems amazing. For an average person $400 is way too much for something like this. I paid less than half of this for my main PC monitor so $400 is a hard sell. I think $200 for something like this would be amazing but at $400 I’d rather get a real VR head set

Regarding the use of prescription glasses with Nreal Air - Nreal has a partnership with a glasses company (name is escaping me, but mentioned on the Amazon page for the Nreal Air) to produce prescription lenses for the Nreal Air, you give the partner company a script when ordering, they make the lenses to script and attach them to a frame piece that mounts to the nose section of the Nreal Air. As for use cases; as long as the computer you're using has USB-C (DisplayPort signalling) video output you can plug-n-play the Nreal Air right to the system otherwise there is a HDMI Adapter unit that takes a HDMI cable from the computer or game console and converts the signals to DisplayPort signalling for the USB-C. This means you can use the Nreal Air with M1/M2 powered Macs and iPads, and SteamDeck (or other PC's with USB-C video output) directly over their USB-C ports, or with the HDMI Adaptor you can use any PC or game console with HDMI output - combining the HDMI Adaptor with an Apple Lightning Digital AV dongle even lets you use older iPhones with the Lightning connector with the Nreal Air. In terms of gaming use of the Nreal Air; Nreal has verified the use of the Air with the Nintendo Switch when docked and using the HDMI Adaptor, but not verified (at least in marketing materials) the use of the Air with the Switch in handheld mode. In either case, it's unlikely the Nreal Air would work with a Switch Lite due to Nintendo's designing of the Switch Lite to not output AV signals over the USB-C port.

@@OpasgegenLinks It was square. Apples are circles, watches are circles. The least they could've done was to make it oblate spheroid but no, it was square.
What problem is this going to solve? We know what iPhone, AirPods, Apple Watch, iPad, etc. are for. These products do things for us that are beneficial. What benefit will what is being called "Apple Glass" really have? Didn't Google try this and fail? Won't this be a huge privacy issue? Maybe I'm old fashioned but I'm just not excited about this. That might change when Apple actually announces the device but for the moment, I just don't care.
Ultimately, I see AR as allowing information to be displayed about what/who you're looking at, unobtrusively. Ever see someone that you haven't seen for years, but forget their name, or where you know them from? Imagine if, right alongside them, there was a little info panel with that information. Or let's say you're visiting a foreign country, and there's a sign in a language you can't read. Instead of pulling out your phone and pointing Google Translate at it, you'd just *look at it* and you'd get that automatically. Obviously this won't all come at once, and the UI will take some time to converge, but eventually I see this sort of thing being ubiquitous.
If you don't see a use case then that is perfectly OK; you do you. I'm only replying to say that there is zero privacy issue with these; they have no cameras.
When Luke said Nebula, I expected him to continue with “a platform created by me and my creator friends” 😅

@@OpasgegenLinks It was square.
Apples are circles, watches are circles. The least they could've done was to make it oblate spheroid but no, it was square.
Can I project a world with no Brandon?….😂
What problem is this going to solve? We know what iPhone, AirPods, Apple Watch, iPad, etc. are for. These products do things for us that are beneficial. What benefit will what is being called "Apple Glass" really have? Didn't Google try this and fail? Won't this be a huge privacy issue? Maybe I'm old fashioned but I'm just not excited about this. That might change when Apple actually announces the device but for the moment, I just don't care.
People were telling me the same thing when I was rocking the Pebble smartwatch.
