Once in a blue moon RUclips gets a recommendation right. It makes me so happy to find someone who feels the same love I always have toward BoF2. Objective issues and all.
To this day this is still in my top 10 for favorite JRPG, I go back and play it every couple years just because I start missing it. I'm still hoping we get an official re-release with updated translation someday on Steam or something.
Hey Tony, merry Christmas! Found ya a couple weeks ago through your T-Edition playthrough and I really enjoyed it. I appreciated how thorough you were with the mod, and I'm looking forward to seeing more of that thoroughness through this mod, as BoF 2 is one of my all time favorites as well.
I could never get into this game (or series honestly except for 1), so I'm glad you're explaining the story and going the extra mile to educate us on it while shakin' things up and keeping it randomized!
The first four are good games (1 and 2 are my favorites; very Dragon Quest-esque feel to them in alot of ways). The fifth one basically ran the series into its grave. They tried to sort of revive it with a mobile cash grab, but it didn't even feel like a Breath of Fire game.
I played through this once when I was maybe 14 or so, and I enjoyed it enough to finish it, though I recall being frustrated with how much the story bounces around before you're finally able to encounter that initial monster again.
The "church is secretly evil" trope was fresh and new back then, making this game really interesting. It's overdone TO DEATH now, but back then, it was unique.
Have you seen Ben Siron's guide on this game? It is on game faqs I think, it literally covers every single aspect of this game, right down to damage calculations. I played this religiously when I was growing up. I guess you could say I was obsessed with it. There were so many things I hated about this game but yet I loved it so much. The spell system, random encounter rates, leveling up, battle mechanics all suck. Many things were just so tedious and annoying. But I still loved playing it. Also, if you haven't noticed, every time you die your money is cut in half. Be careful out there!
There's a fan translation of Breath of Fire II that fixes alot of the dialogue issues and improves some other things. It's worth checking out if you haven't already.
@@KingShabaDaba If you watch HCBailly's playthrough of the game, he uses the fan translation I'm referring to. I think there's a link to it either on his first video of it, or in his comments.
The translation is better than default but the creative choices made that have nothing to do with the translation are pretty stupid. I'd just play the original TBH. The shitty translation is part of the game's charm.
1:02:00 you can fish up treasure chests without gold. gold is only needed to get the mer-chant. I might just reply whenever I have a comment XD 1:05:00 Katt can actually cast her spells, one of the town-joining npc's can give 20ap to a character after talking to him 20-or-so times, but Katt her magic/int is so low that it isn't worth it. It's also not worth giving the 20ap to Ryu, since he'll have over 100ap, meaning that you cant fully recover his AP with wisdom fruit (recovers 100ap) meaning his dragon attack wont be at full strength.
This was very interesting and entertaining, also in the Augus fight I'm pretty sure Rand's wake ability will revive characters with 1hp. Although I'm not sure if that would have made much of a difference really
gotta say though, a world where every bookshelf (pretty much) is trying to scam you out of your hard earned money and every enemy (pretty much) has death? Scary.
@@Volcannon Or remove the ‘ from the beginning and end of the rom name you drag into the window. That was a problem I ran into. So if your rom name is ‘bof2.sfc’ remove the ‘ on either side in the ui window.

I watched some SoM rando runs before, but THIS is what made me sub in the end. I loved BoF as a kid and still do.

5th, Dragon Quarter is underated as hell. It was just too different and also brutally difficult.
@@zealgaming8161 If it didn't have the Breath of Fire name attached to it, I think it would have been better received than it was.
Love this game. I played the hell out of it when I was a kid - love the art style, it blows away the other bof games. Nina with black wings is so cool
What a treat to end the day! Merry Christmas Tony!

Merry Christmas :) The 3rd option in weapon shop will compare the item you have equipped vs the one it will sell
Poor Ryu has a very tough start. This is pretty awesome.

woo the premiere. Enjoy the holidays!
You can absolutely compare buyable equipment to what you have equipped in the shops. Use the SWCH option to do it

sweet. BTW I noticed when you use the shelf inns they don't take your money either.
The shaker item is earthquake i think, its been awhile since I played this
I've always been curious if in Japanese the "BoyDR" weapon is a reference to the Japanese punk band "Shonen Knife" ("Shonen" meaning boy or boy's).
those stats you got a lv1 are that of a level 28-32 character lolz this is great! where's can one get the randomizer?

Use the swtch command when buying weapons and Armor...

The original version of BoF II came out in the same year that I was born! 🥰🥰🥰
