How do tides work?

- Ever wonder how the tides work or what causes the tides? The tides are caused by the gravitational effects of the sun and moon on the earth, resulting in the tidal force. As well as causing the tides, the movements of the earth, moon and sun all relative to one another result in daily and monthly patterns in the tides. This includes the lengths of the tidal cycles as well as spring and neap tides.

Hope you like our first video of the year! This year we are hoping to bring more content exploring different ocean topics and video styles. We also just crossed 1200 subscribers and we want to thank all our fellow sea fans for your support!
Someone on another RUclips video about the tides asked why the sand isn't pulled by the Moon's gravity?
Have you ever considered that it might be earth tides increasing due to a change in gravity at the Earth's core? I believe the oceans are pushed from underneath.

Really great video, very well explained! Keep doing what you're doing :D
Thanks Ben!
Awesome video!!!! Very informational and well put together!
Thanks Fintastic Films! Also, I love your channel name!
The Abyss - Thank you!

Her intonation is literally unbearable to listen to... interesting content. but the delivery - yuk
The right hand rule
Someone should send this video to Bill O'Reilly. ; D
Cool, one of the best explanations I've seen.

Hey guys! I just saw your comment on Chris Hau's video so thought I'd come take a look - I liked the sound of it and I'm pleased to say it hasn't disappointed! This is really great work and something that we need more of on RUclips! A genuinely well put together, informative, educational piece. I know that it takes time to put documentaries together (I do them myself haha) but when they're at this level of quality the time, patience and energy required is always worth it! It'll take time, patience and energy to build your channel here but just keep at it, building brick by brick, because you have something :) you've gone deep (pun intended) and niche which is what's required to build a really community and following on RUclips...good luck! Got yourself a new excited sub (oh man is that another pun, I just need to leave now)
Thanks Josh, it means a lot reading comments like these. We have a few videos pretty close to being done but the content we're really excited about releasing is still in the works. Being between productions right now I'm hoping to get large chunk of them started and finished. Stay tuned for more ocean puns.
Matt
Awesome to hear it! Good luck :) can't wait to see what you've got coming
Great video!
Thanks Luca!
Here I was thinking that it was just the Lord Tlaloc breathing in and out. You learn something new every day! xD
That's hilarious, also I just learned who Lord Tlaloc is. Thanks!
Haha cool! Great video! I always wondered about this and I knew it had to do with the Moon, but this really explained it well with really incredible visuals!
Thanks Kamtuxutl. We held back releasing this one for almost a month trying to get the tide time-lapse. The ocean and weather didn't cooperate when I had time off. Finally had a some what calm day with no waves and was able to get it in the small window we had. Too many windy winter storms this year haha.
Well, you guys did a really great job! I hope to see more from you guys! :)
I've miss this
Don't worry we have more videos coming they just take a while to produce.
Nice work! What camera are you using? Looks awesome!
Thanks Nicat Behbudov! For the timelapse we used a Canon Eos-m with magic-lantern and an external battery, there is a photo on our Instagram account of it. Our main camera is a Red Scarlet-Mx.
Somehow having a fellow Canadian explain science to me makes the subject easier to understand.
I never thought about the gravity from the sun as a factor in the tides
Great video.
Thanks Beefcake I'm glad you enjoyed the video and found it easy to understand. We never really think of the effect the sun has on earth besides the light and heat it provides, so I find it really interesting learning other ways it affects us.
I know this is late but, great video! Keep it up jacklyn!
Never to late for comments!
Great explanatory animations.
Thanks FutureNow!
great overview of tides and graphics! I like the time lapse at the beginning... keep up the good work!
Thanks Shawn! It look us longer than we were hoping to get that shot, the winter weather in Canada was not cooperating.
So awesome! Love watching these videos! :)
Thanks David!
