I bought everything for Root. We're running a six player game tonight. We've used your videos to learn the game. Your videos are phenomenal for this game. Thank you for these.
For setup: if both Birds (or Lizards) and Cats are in play you can pick any other corner. This has been confirmed as an oversight by Leder Games. Essentially you never set up multiple factions in the same corner.
Thanks for this series of tutorials! I just now discovered Root through Table Top Sim and after seeing all of these videos and what I've experienced there, I really love what it has to offer and am already a huge fan.
12.3.3 Step 3: Surface. In a corner clearing that does not have the Marquise’s keep, Eyrie’s starting roost, or Cult’s starting garden, and diagonally opposite from one of those starting clearings if possible, place 2 warriors and 1 tunnel. Then place 2 warriors in each clearing adjacent to that corner clearing, except the Burrow.
Thank you! That was an intense month trying to make all of the videos for all of the factions.... so I know that I made lots of mistakes. Thanks for the help!
The Price of Failure. Whenever any number of Duchy buildings are removed, the Duchy discards a random card, returns their swayed minister card of highest rank (lord, then noble, then squire) to their Unswayed Ministers pile, and removes its crown from the game permanently. So it's not only in a battle, it can also be triggered by a revolt or a strike.
@@TomTeachesGames I have been able to get a few games in with my sons and I really like the Moles. I love what they and the Corvid Conspiracy add to the game.
2 questions, 1) the dig action says ‘spend’ cards not ‘reveal’. Does that mean those cards get discarded? 2) to sway a minister can it be any pieces in clearings? Such as burrows and warriors?
When swaying ministers does the suits and clearing have to be at a 1:1 ratio or less. If I had 1 fox clearing and 4 fox cards could I nab a 4 card minister
Sorry for the delay.... it looks like you have to have a 1:1 ratio in terms of having a piece in a clearing. The book says, "For each crd you wish to reveal, you must have at least one piece in a clearing matching the suit of that card." -- Hope that helps!
Very helpful video, thanks! Is it something on my end, or are there no Klingon subtitles? The description says they're there, but I only see English as a possible selection for languages.
I recently got Root with the expansions. Its an awesome game. Your teaching videos definitely helps as you explain it in a way thats easy to follow and understand. It is really appreciated! For two players, are there any faction combinations you can recommend to play against each other?
Oh dang, I haven’t played enough to know that.... I almost always stick with that ever factions they recommend in the book(s). I’ve only played 3 times and they were all 4-player games. But I WISH I could play more!
I am so sorry I'm so slow to respond -- but I just saw all of your comments on these videos, and they seriously cracked me up. Brilliant writing! I appreciate the laugh!

Thank you so much! I can't tell you how awesome that makes me feel. I hope your 6-player game 😱 went well! And, more importantly, I hope you won 😬
2 years old and still some of the best tutorials out there. Thanks for the video!

Oh great! My brain kept saying that should be the case.... but the wording was so (non?) specific. I’ll get that annotated. Thank you!
@@TomTeachesGames Yeah, the wording is messy; they had to change it to make it clear!
So each corner can be taken by the army based factions. Cats, birds, lizards and moles.
Thanks for clearing this up Dave!
I love that little editing at the beginning of the video when you pick up the VP token and drop it on the board. Thanks for the very helpful tutorial!
Wahoo! I'm glad that was a good thing! Thanks for such a nice comment!

You're welcome!
This game is SO GOOD! I really love it. The way everything clicks together is just pure genius.

Thanks for finding this, that would make for an intense start.
This is really helpful stuff man!
Sweet! I’m so glad to hear that!

Thanks for the video Tom. I just got my copy today and I look forward to getting the game to the table soon. The Moles look like another fun faction.
Oh nice! Have you been able to play yet?

1 - yes
2 - yes (well, burrow is not any clearing type so only your warriors, tunnels and buildings)
Anyone know how to best strategies against the Underground Duchy?

I’m a fool and haven’t made them yet..... so definitely not your side. That’s on me.
And thanks for the super nice words! I hope they helped!
@@TomTeachesGames Well, I lost, but at least I knew how my faction worked well enough to not hold up the game much :)
Awesome video!
Thank you! Hopefully it helps a little....
