- Samoa, Pacific Ocean - the Samoan buses of the islands of Upolu and Savaii in Samoa. Let's go the capital of SAMOA, the beautiful city of Apia and let's look at the very unique, colorful and beautiful Samoan buses. The Samoan buses are very unique looking, plus, a true experience to ride in one of these Samoan buses around Apia.
Apia is the capital city of the South Pacific island nation of Samoa. Offshore, near Vaiala beach, Palolo Deep Marine Reserve is a stretch of reef with a deep, coral-lined hole. The Robert Louis Stevenson Museum is housed in the writer’s restored home. Nearby, at the top of Mount Vaea, is his grave. In the city center, the country’s natural history and cultural heritage are the focus of the Museum of Samoa.

Lovely colourful and decorated vintage Toyota buses operating in the City of Apia in SAMOA.
+Michael Friedman Thanks Michael..
+Skip Roche Hi, no, I do not have a playlist yet but you can find all my videos from Tonga by going to youtube and typing 'vstefanu tonga'...
Island flavor and very utilitarian. good combination. the Toyota drivetrain/frame and Samoan addition of lumber body/interior. Built to last. Thank you for the vid
Add to that the loud music and the wooden seats and now you can have a full picture of these wonderful buses.. After 10 days in Samoa, I must have ridden them over 20 times and loved the experience, every time!!
I’m a bus enthusiast, so I really enjoyed this video. These are probably truck chassis with locally made bodies, as someone else has pointed out. Japanese buses, for a long while, had notorious reputations as being very uncomfortable, as they were more like trucks, rather than vehicles built to transport people.
Hello, thank you for your informative comments!!
Great video about Apia Samoa, many thanks.
Hello, thank you for viewing my videos!!
They're very similar to "chivas" in Ecuador. 🌴☀😎🚌💪
Very interesting, thank you for these comments!! 😊😊😊
The chasis and trucks are Japanese, the largely wooden cabins are locally built, traditionally, by boat builders. If you go inside, you'll see ribbing and canvas, much like the early European row boats from whaling vessels..
Hi, thank you for this very interesting information and for viewing my videos!! 👍👍👍
Nice looking buses of Samoa.
Yes they are!
Hi Vic, just a side note on your video of these unique Samoan buses. The wooden body of the buses are built locally, the rest are from Japan.
+islanderws Thank you for the information, I miss riding on these buses...
colourful as well:)
+TheTembran Thank you for viewing my videos!!

Hello, thank you for watching my videos!! 👍👍👍
I managed to find on Google street view the bus terminal for Antigua Guatemala as an example of what the chicken buses in Guatemala look like and it be interesting to compare them with the buses in your video. I don’t how many times I have ridden chicken buses in Guatemala.
The differences are many, the Guatemalan buses are bigger (they are the same as the US school buses) and more wildly decorated, especially in the front..
Vic Stefanu - World Travels and Adventures
I have seen the logo “Thomas Built Buses” on some of them and I don’t know whether they still do it but for a while the bus companies in Guatemala would import used school buses from the United States and fix them up to their own liking such as making sure they have diesel engines instead of gasoline engines if they did not come with them.
True, most of the buses in Guatemala are used school buses from the USA whereas the buses in Samoa are made in Japan..
Very colorful indeed....I noticed police at the station...what is the crime rate there in that area?
+Grandpadew Very low crime rate, almost non-existent
They're usually there to stop buses that are overloaded or sometimes music on buses played to loud 😂
Sometimes the music was so loud that I was very uncomfortable and got a headache..
So Vic..you sat on a older girl? Lol.. bless your heart.. Im sorry the experience wasn't the greatest!!..Your video are though.. thanks ❤️🐒😁
Thank you!!
But Fiji buses are the best in the south pasific islands
Hello, thank you for your comments!! 😊😊😊
@VicStefanu...Is the ride comfortable?
+Jay Young Not at all... You have to sit on a flat wooden seat and every time the bus passes a bump, your whole body jumps up and down.. after half an hour you feel as if your body was put in a blender... I took the longest ride (around 1 hour) and I remember arriving dizzy due to the seat and due to the blasting music... I had to sit down and rest for a few minutes once I exited the bus..
+Vic Stefanu - World Travels and Adventures Very true... Lol And it is wierd because, at the times the bus is crowded, people sat on others, and for me, if was REALLY, uncomfortable to sit on an older girl... Thanks for posting the video :) God Bless!
lol agree
