Had lost 1 date palm and a Honda Civic to red palm weevils... As almost the entire top half of the palm collapsed on 3 parked cars in a storm.. (last year all d lower half leaves were hanging down, and a tuft of top leaves was d only thing standing up on the palm.. then in Jan.. the entire top toppled to the side and in d rains, this tragic incident happened)..
Where are you located. In San Diego we now have the black version which is the South American palm weevil and it is destroying all of them. They are ruthless and the city does absolutely nothing. They are such beautiful trees to not care but no one seems to care down here.
I recently had a possum eat a bunch of my chamadorea stolinifera's which really pissed me off so now I have been trapping and releasing in a canyon far enough away where they don't return. Raccoons destroy bromeliads also which is extremely annoying.
