Separating the drivers from their vehicles is kind of a shame. The vehicles are supposed to be an extension of the characters personality, not just a weapon in itself. The FMV cut-scenes are neat even if the story's kinda lame.
To be honest I forgot they even did that. I never remembered the characters, only their vehicles, except Sweet Tooth of course. The death race is an awesome level, the canyon one.
@@gravellergear4703 i agree as well. Seeing that arena shooters like overwatch did so well why are we not gettig a new twisted metal? we could have a multiplayer single player and battle royale.
Exactly, too bad Jaffe said he's not wanting single player mode from the get go. It was why this game ainnt making so much buzz when it came out. They got rid the main element of the old game which we all love. I played the old TM games for years but I only played this one for like few months.
@Elite Soulfly the head guy that made twisted metal isn't really into making games right now. But he did want to make a movie or show in the twisted metal universe which seems like it's happening if what you say is true
I wish they gave us another twisted metal game. They could build off this game as a base. Adding the features people missed and taking out the ones people hate.
Twisted Metal Black is my favorite in the series. I have not played this one though, so that could change lol. I have a lot of fond memories from Black in particular. I was like 11 or 12 when Black was released, and me and my brother would ALWAYS be playing it lol.
This is my favorite Twisted Metal. Gameplay has always mattered the most to me and TM 2012 delivers. It’s a shame fans don’t give this game enough credit for it’s gameplay, underrated entry in the series.
They don't give it enough credit because they didn't have enough characters in it they only had four Sweet Tooth doll face Mr grim and the preacher and I heard the reason why for that is because they pushed the game out because of Valentine's Day which was stupid I don't know why they did that
The characters were one of the most important aspects of all the other TM games and they skimped out on 90% of them to focus on 3 individuals. Seeing Sweet Tooth in Axel's vehicle makes me physically ill. It's almost as stupid as going to a renaissance fair dressed like Master Chief. Also racing was a crap idea, Twisted Forza doesn't sound good and isn't.
Gameplay matters to me the most as well. That being said they could have locked certain cars to certain factions to alleviate some of problem people had with separating Cars & Drivers.
Over 5 years later and the show is out and got renewed for a second season so maybe, just maybe Sony finally has plans for a new game. They'll obviously need to find a way to make it a third person story driven action game instead of a car combat game because it's Sony after all.
This game was a fantastic blend of the two best Twisted Metal titles (2 and Black). We need a new, proper installment that continues to build on this foundation.
Hey great review! Your problems with the game are spot on, and the exact same complaints many people had with the game. I am a veteran of the game "pre ordered it day one" and I can tell you straight up the online at launch was a huge mess! Connection issues, and server shutdowns caused most of the online community to quite after the first couple months...Then the worst part happened. Sony dropped all support for the game, and there were many bugs that arose, such as a huge one involving the custom skins you mentioned. Anyone who had created any would no longer be able to connect online with that account because the game could no longer access the custom skins website since Sony shut it down. Those are just examples of the problems the online community faced....but it is now stable, and honestly some of the most fun you can possibly have with an online game. I would highly recommend trying it out a couple times. Though most players who still get on are pretty good sadly so its not easy. Gameplay is also the best in the series in my opinion. everything is so fluid, and its a blast driving around. This is how twisted metal should feel when played! Its a blast they knocked it out of the park! Not having lots of characters in the story was huge mistake many believe, and they added some gimmicks to single player that are bad i.e. races as you said. Sadly there is no online coop I would have loved to do single player with a friend, and since you only play the campaign or challenge modes, it sounds like co-op story mode would have been fun for you and me.
I heard that they didn't add enough characters to the game because they wanted to push it out for Valentine's Day so yeah that f***** everything up at least that's what I heard and Sony really needs to come back with another game
Preacher has a theme for being the crazy evangelist that knows what calypso is in every game, even though he is portrayed differently in every game, the theme is that preacher knows calypso is the ultimate evil figure and wishes to either expose or destroy calypso. The ONLY exception to this theme is twisted metal black, where preacher is portrayed as a preacher who believes he is occasionally possessed by a 'demon' and wants to be rid of the possessions, and was banned from his path of worship due to his great 'mistake'. Spoiler in next line, look away if you want to discover this in game. he was banned due to a demon telling him to cause a murder massacre in a church, if i recall correctly, during a baptism. calypso's prize for preacher was supposed to be to reveal and expel the 'demon' in preacher, however all calypso could do was reveal the 'demon' is just a voice in his head, suggesting that preacher is just insane. preacher commits suicide during the ending of preachers short story in tmb.
As we know the endings were bad or twisted and punished the winners if i recall correctly and we know theres supernatural things in twisted metal universe so preacher might have been really possesed amd he was just lied to and punished he met a twisted fate theres no happy endings in twisted metal just twisted outcomes.
I know I'm three years late but the reason the story was this way was because they was developing the game to be an online multiplayer only. 75% into development, Sony went to the developers and asked if they can add a single player to it. The racing was also added by a coder who suggested it. The lead creater himself didn't like the idea.
Best video game series ever made. I like Halo and gears of war but twisted metal soundtrack along with the video game especially in three and four could never be beat.
Yeah it was literally a supernatural curse by a preacher and twisted metal black. The cure would only work if sweet tooth quit murdering people. So he smashes the vial and says a man's got to have his priorities.I love that character especially in the beginning It shows him killing somebody slashing his throat and saying shut up and bleed motherfucker! Although he doesn't completely say that word but you get the hint. That video game was the only game in my life I could truly veg out on and enjoy. It honestly kept me from killing people during breakups.
One of the most frustrating parts about this game was the AI like they would basically spam the emp on you constantly, and they literally would gang up and attack only you and no one else on the whole map
Vinny Raptor I've been sniped through terrain and other obstructions within only a second of the laser pointing at me. That shit needs a patch and will never get one.
Agustín Hoj I completed story on Twisted. Real pain in the ass! Particularly had trouble with the Dollface boss, the double juggernaut on the canyon map, and Sweet Tooth's boss during the first part and the part between the pinball machine and the helicopter. Managed to get all gold for it too somehow and from now on I refuse to touch twisted story again.
The black shoes and twisted metal black to unlock characters is my favorite type of things when it comes to videogames. I loved how you had to unlock new maps and crash bandicoot to buy doing strange things in the environment. Noticing something unusual or out of place. That’s what all the new games don’t have anymore and I miss it. Especially since these games were popular before a lot of people had the Internet you had to find it yourself !
Having developed a game like twisted metal before, I can side with the developers on the attack mechanic. Developing the game like you said, the AI would mainly focus on each other. This would result in the player only be able to attack half the AI if the player stayed out of the way.
Not necessarily. Twisted Metal 3 had enemies attacking each other. And going for health on their own. I would still kill most, if not all the enemies. But having every enemy gun for you in a contest kind of defeats the whole purpose.
@@Gamingpastime64 I know this is 2 years later, but I'm enjoying your review, and wanted to throw in my idea of incentivizing getting the killing blow on opponents in some way. Points or currency of some kind, or instant bonus health or items, and then program the AI to mostly hunt you down when everyone is at full health, to force you to engage more, and the less health an opponent has, the more likely they are to attack them and steal the killing blow for themselves. This could make AI combat seem more authentic and organic, and also underhandedly opportunistic, which fits the personalities of many contestants who bothered to enter the contest in the first place, and puts a little more pressure on the player to engage and strategize.
I tried unlocking warthog, I pulled my fucking hair out getting through half of the story on twisted. but i just couldn't do it, i think it was the levels with the juggernauts that got me i just had enough. I hated how in this game with such short car roster already felt like locking one of its cars behind an almost impossible wall. this game would have been so cool if it had different drivers per car, 5 additional vehicles in the roster, and 3 more maps. the game just lacked longevity, twisted metal head on on the psp felt like it had double the content of this game.
The game was originally going to be a downloadable game, but they kept adding stuff to it until it had to be released as a full game, but they didn’t add enough to make it feel like a full game. So the game exist in a weird limbo where it’s to big to be a download psn exclusive game but to small to feel like a full game.
There is a DLC for this game which is cancelled i think it will add THUMPER,MR.SLAM,CRAZY 8,YELLOW JACKET,AND TWISTER there in such a cool design! And more battlegrounds i think but cancelled😪
I remember getting this game at launch for my birthday back in highschool. The server issues were plentiful, but I loved the single player. Then I heard that Jaffe jumped ship and I got worried about whether or not we were getting the dlc cars he hinted at back then. If I'm correct one of them was going to be Twister and I forgot who the second one was. Of course that never happened though. The game sold too poorly and now the Twisted Metal franchise is probably done for a long time to come. I mean hell we are at the end of this current generation of consoles and they haven't mentioned anything about a new game. My personal favorite is Twisted Metal 2. I remember my brother and I getting absolutely pissed at each other playing that game and it was great fun. Never played 3 though. Might have to give it a shot.
Give 3 a shot but also take note that the AI there is pretty tough and car physics are crap compared to 2. You will like the soundtrack of 3 with Rob Zombie and others being on there and you may like how interactive the levels are in that powerups are hidden throughout the environments that do major damage as well as secret areas. Fighting the boss at the end is tough too because you have to turn off these switches on the walls to stop the cars from regenerating and respawning. After you kill all comers then the fight with Primeval happens and hes pretty gnarly to say the least, he can shoot homing Mr Grimm specials that absolutely pummel you as well as a homing Roadkill special at the same time. That game and TM 4 deserve a look. 4 improves some of the negatives of 3 but the reg characters are brand new no name chars and you must at each level fight a boss after you kill the reg drivers and those bosses are Super Axel, Super Thumper, Minion and the main boss Sweet Tooth who now is to me the toughest char in the series history, once you beat those level bosses you can select them and thats when the real fun begins plus in 4 Calypso is now playable due to the fact he has been dethroned as the leader of the contest by Sweet Tooth and his henchman so hes fun to play and his special is actually a tactical nuke that ive always loved using for its damage if you get a direct hit and the fact you can literally blow someone off the map with it lol. Sorry this was long winded and its been years but check out 3 and 4. 2 is the best we all know that but 3 and 4 have their magic moments as well and have great strategies built into the level designs. Also 4 has create a car function which is fun..
I kinda wonder what you thought of Rogue Trip 2012. I liked some things about TM3, but Rogue Trip made me pretty much forget about TM3 purely base on level design.
I agree with everything you said i this review, I was disapointed at how there was only 3 drivers but wasn't opposed to characters using different vehicles or having gunners. Still trying to figure out why they added rap in the music line up, I can understand why they'd have White Zombie and Rob Zombie (TM4), but hearing "Straight outta compton" after having Priest grace my ears, always bothered me. As for the "All against you" AI mode, it did make sense seeing how it was you against an entire faction, although it would'e been nicer to have AI fight each other. Also yes, the races can fuck right off!!! Besides there's only 3 choices for the race matches, Reaper (If you're good at driving it), Crimsion Fury and Kamikaze (I used Kamikaze for the races, as Crimsion Fury was just a bit too spastic to handle), what were they thinking? And while the Boss battles were interesting, The Carnival of Terror can eat a dick the same size as it. Pinball area was annoying and the gauntlet after it, was bloody impossible. Still hoping that a new TM is in the works, be it in the canon series (TM1, TM2, TM Head-on) or something new. P.S. Here in Australia, we got a bit screwed as Meat Wagon and Shadow's special, were censord. The victim in the gurney and in the coffin are apparently dead, even though the coffin still makes noises that someone is still alive inside.
I enjoyed 3 and 4 as well and I think that's because I was young enough to enjoy the game for the gameplay rather than who made it. When I was 6 or 7 games grew on trees for all I knew
I bought my first PS3 just to play this as an enormous fan of the series since the first PS1 game in the series I bought with my PS1 at launch. The story stinks but the custom "Challenge Mode" makes it addictive & very fun but only in that mode as you can basically create your own epic levels & battles similar to the traditional "Twisted Metal" games. I also prefer only single-player gaming which is why I play the game, split-screen with friends & family is great too.
Most of the stories kind of sucked in the past games anyway, except for 2 and black. Actually, the only one I thought was lame in this game was Dollface's.
You and I are one in the same. I've wanted the game for awhile and last year my Walmart started putting out games they were clearancing out and one of them was a new copy of Twisted Metal for $7 so I picked it up along with some other $5 games for PS3 to have a library for when I do get a PS3. Several months later finally got a PS3, started with challenge mode on normal and loved it. When I got to story having to get the gold medals on Twisted and competing Twisted was rage inducing. Eventually did it but if I want to enjoy the game I just stick to normal challenge mode or push hard challenge mode when I want a challenge.
A couple of friends of mine tried to tell me this was the worst game in the series but they judged it solely on the story mode and never played it online like I did. It was a real fucking treat, dude. I wish I could share that experience with them :/
God this game could have been incredible and continued the franchise had they just listened to what the fans liked about the previous games. Worst thing about twisted metal black by far was the helicopter boss fight. It didn't fit in at all and people were quite vocal about it being bad. How do they respond "Okay no helicopter boss at the end we hear you loud and clear so you can now play as one"..... This game was dead online after 3 months literally due to that fact that every match was almost completely made up of talons. It's a shame cause the developers took the game backlash as I guess twisted metal just isn't good anymore rather than fixing the flaws. I mean jesus christ 4 playable characters if you count preacher who is random af. All you need to do to see how dumb of a decision this was is pick sweet tooth and use Axels car. What the hell were they thinking. OMFG also i have to say the only boss fight that was enjoyable was the monster trucks but why the hell is Mr Grimm the driver.I straight up almost stabbed myself in the eyes while fighting the carnival on wheels boss. Oh yeah also, MINION IS THE MOST POPULAR CHARACTER IN THE GAME BESIDES SWEET TOOTH, WHY DO YOU FUCKING IDIOTS NOT MAKE SURE TO INCLUDE HIM. Sorry bout that, it just blows my mind.

All of these problems came from Sony, since they obligued eat sleep and play to brute force a singleplayer (this was online only) so they could sold the game at 60$ when they had almost 75% of the work done (in other words, they got an imposible mission on their hands when they were almost on playtesting and refining phase). That corporate decision fucked up the game a lot.
I hate that it's all about the online. No game should be like that. what happens in a year, two years, three years? Dead online and you cant play the game. So I'm happy they kept a single player in. Also I hope if they make another game it will have a single player as well.
Yeah there's not much people playing online now. The game was released with a bad server. They patched it but it still has problems. Only the pro players and trophy boosters play online. You will have to be a pro player to even enjoy online now since rank rooms are no more. The pro players don't want weak players in their rooms. The game could really use another balance patch because the remote bomb is overpowered. Edit: I forgot to say the enemies actually do attack each other but not by much to the point they kill each other unless they headshot someone. When fighting ten enemies you will not always encounter a car that you haven't fought with full health. A junkyard Dog has 260 health but it may have 214 when you first fight it. You should have played the game on Twisted difficulty. You would have experienced one of the most bullshit thing to ever happen in a Twisted Metal game. Meat Wagon, Vermin, Shadow and Reaper having charged up snipers and killing you quick.
3 and 4 were my favorites on PS1! Loved the soundtracks, bigger maps, and better feeling cars. Never got the chance to enjoy Black on PS2. Multiplayer in TM2012 sucked only because you could NEVER find a match and if you did it took like 2 hours! I think I played like 10 total matches online and it wasn't because I did not want to.
They should've made this game an online - split screen coop mode only disc separately from the story mode of this game, so that way they can makemore characters in the story mode making this game like a Twisted metal black sequel.
David Jaffe himself has said on one of his life streams that he agreed that racing didn't belong in a Twisted Metal game. The reason that it was added was, and I am losey quoting Jaffe here, that one of the network programmers actually put it in the game without the knowledge of him and others knowing. Jaffe said he had to either keep it in the game or else risk losing this programmer, which in turn would have cost the game it's ability to play online as it does. His hands were tied with this in mind. Side note: You can actually ask him yourself if you have anything you want to know regarding his games or anything, really. The only things you can't do is any ideas you might have for a future game or when another TM game will be in the works. His Twitch can be found here, but his streams are both the same show from either his Twitch and RUclips channels: www.twitch.tv/itsdavidscottjaffe
Bought this game on release & I remember the online was absolutely madness for better or worse. I mainly played the single player mode. It's sad we haven't seen anything since then
Just finished watching all your Twisted Metal reviews (in the order of game release) and my main take away is "Twisted Metal III is my child and you will stop picking on her!" I understand though. Not a fan of III, but I do love Mega Man Legends. So, I get having to go to bat for the game people seem to hate on way too much in a series.
The first two are so iconic fun amazing games I don’t understand why they made so many changes in so many different things I guess just the first two were amazing they should’ve done super slight tweaks to just make them a little bit better but barely change it because it was already amazing I just found out about the head on because I’m 33 in it by the time head on came out I didn’t know nothing about it I’m going to get it but twisted metal one too in a head on sound like the amazing true live games I just wish they would go back to mostly what that was find some cool little extra games to play so that you have Extra replay value
I freaking loved this game from the get go. All I ever see from the community is squirming and complaining about this game, any excuse to dunk on it. Ive made peace with that. Sometimes EVERYONE else just sees things differently than you. I understand story side of the game has some flaws, but the gameplay is simply the most intense, visceral and FUN gameplay in the entire series! and THATS what matters in a game, the gameplay. I will always feel like this game is grossly underrated for all the work that clearly went into it. The fact that we only get Twisted Metal: Black and not this on PS4 is my ASS. And 'PS Now' can go to Hell for holding it hostage in their streaming pergatory. My only solution to enjoying a modern Twisted Metal is to buy a PS3 again, at least I still got my disc.
@ All true, however those are all the exact same points that are always brought up about the game everytime. Like I said I get it. It did THIS wrong, it did THAT wrong. It's just ya know, in a funny sorta way, I can't help but notice all the things it did right a lot more than the things it did wrong, just personally. All I'm saying is the series is already at the curb, and if the fans want to ever see it return at all, regardless if people care most about story or online or just the gameplay, they'll never bother with it, so long as people refuse to just be a bit more positive and supportive of the IP. The fixation on the negative aspects in 2012 have never struck me as a proportionate response. No matter how many times the same handful of complaints are repeated to me. It just doesn't get in the way of it being an outstanding TM GAME first and foremost imo, but im just in that camp of the fanbase that cares most about how it plays as a game, period. Others are about the online or the story, and the game itself be damned, that's fine. But at this rate, say goodbye to Twisted Metal, and maybe that is everyones fault, including the fans.
The AI in head on would attack each other knowing that if they would need one person left to win the match, if you die, otherwise may say you lose, but the bots are going to attack each other while your dead or leave, infact I wish we have that kind of thing where you can spectate the bots as they kill each other, leaving one machine standing
But Dark tooth's AI, Dark tooth's AI might be,well, not right to say. If they see you or you hit them, you better start thinking of why you did that because Dark Tooth won't let it be unpunished. They will chase you down till your dead.
Twisted Metal 2012 is a fantastic game that was hurt by some of its design choices. The cage matches, racing levels, the prominence of obnoxious and very out of place modern metal, overly long boss battles, poorly implemented multiplayer and somewhat questionable storylines really got in the way, but the overall gameplay and especially the controls are top tier.
We almost got Twister as DLC! As good as TM 2012 played, to me, it was also one the more disappointing entries due to the racing, the obnoxious battle with the Dollface boss and the twin Juggernaut battle. The lack of a decent variety of characters was quite disappointing. Warthog should have went back to his old Twisted Metal design and Minion should have been brought back.
Ya know, Warhawk was originally going to be playable in Twisted Metal Black but that was cut in the end due to them having to unnecessarily rework everything to allow for flight mechanics. Guess Twisted Metal 2012 finally gives you a flight option. Haha
If they make another twisted metal there should be a defense added for the emp the ability to use nitrous to force the engine to keep running and hence nullify the effect or reduce it drastically
Yeah I can tell the AI is insane, my buddy and I tried to go through the game and I was doing okay but we were having a hard time somewhat. Then again, this was my friends first time playing TM in general. The characters and the cars were probably the most disappointing thing imho. Just three characters and 12 or something cars. The car isn’t just some weapon, it was apart of a characteristic for a specific character Like Needles Kane and Sweet Tooth or The Grim Reaper with The Reaper motorcycle. The specials were good for the most part but what got me sad was that some car specials were the same with the chain gun and shit. Also Warthog’s special was basically Axel’s .-.’ All in all I love this game but there were things that rubbed me the wrong way. Also they had DLC coming up with Twister and Mr. Slam (my ALL TIME favorite veichle) But they cancelled it and I was so pissed
I hope you know that in this game the other cars are all in the same faction, thought the same as you until I saw this, it is a smaller touch but I appreciated it, at least now there is a reason the only fight you
Gaming Pastime will you ever review TM:Head on, thats my favorite in the franchise and my second TM game I played(first being TM3 which is definetly not as bad as people say it is) anyway keep up the dope ass content my man
I have read but not confirmed that this game was designed as multiplayer first and the single player mode was an afterthought. That certainly would explain a lot. While I did like the plots in Twisted Metal Black, I did not care for the story mode in this game. The characters in Black weren't saints but there at least some sympathetic characters among them. Sweet Tooth and Dollface are made so horrible in this game that I think we are expected to hate them. And despite looking like we would get to see Preacher take down Calypso, he gets no story mode. Come on! Except for 3 we always got some endings where the villain didn't get his way, so why couldn't we here?
TM2012 got a lot of things right and so many things wrong it's extremely frustrating. Having a helicopter and Sweet Tooth flying mech in a TM game completely changed the way the game is played, now everyone has an aiming reticle so they can fight air enemies in a TM game which never should have happened. The live action cut scenes take themselves way to seriously especially since the writing is so poorly done and overtly violent for no reason. The fact that there are 3 characters for all of the vehicles completely goes against everything TM stands for, should have had unique characters for each car. Racing should NOT be in this game. Turbo charges go on forever and you pretty much have to have your turbo going at all times to be competitive which goes against the only use it when you need it mentality that other TM games got right. Weapons are way to scarce in this game, I constantly feel like I have to rely on ram damage and my special to get any damage done, speaking of specials this is my biggest complaint about the game: half of the vehicles use a machine gun turret as their special weapon and the other half have a controllable missle or some other thrown object (Junkyard Dog). These specials are extremely poorly done and bland. Each car should feel unique with no overlap whatsoever in specials. I can't believe they got this wrong. The music was extremely repetitive. I miss the Rob Zombie days. The AI is always gunning for you so it doesn't feel like a free for all tournament, it feels cheap like everyone is gunning for you, deaths to the computer don't feel like you did something wrong and are getting punished for a mistake, they just feel cheap like welp that's what happens in a 7 vs 1 when you go out in the open you get emp blasted 3 times in a row from 5 different vehicles and then die. The sniper rifle weapon should not be in the game whatsoever. There is more I can say but I have to get to work.
I was so excited for this game, but was so let down after TM Black... The story, atmosphere, the fun of finding out many different characters stories were all lost and this felt like such a watered down game story wise. The gameplay was very fun and was all there though, just wish there was something to make me want to even play it lol.
I've always been into racing, so that aspect of the game never bothered me. I agree though, it should not have a place in twisted metal games. That game was originally created as the middle finger to cookie cutter racing games of the early 90s
Been a fan since Twisted Metal 2 however I never got around to playing most of the other games - yet. So far I've only played 2 obsessively, all of Twisted Metal Black in my teen years, and then I tried out the demo of Twisted Metal ( 2012 ) when I was in America - I gleefully piloted Talon with great enjoyment while participating in wanton destruction.
That online IS where it's at though bro albeit nearly dead now. This past month has really started to slow down now. It's too bad because I feel like the online can be some of the most fun and fast competitive gameplay you can have and almost no one will ever know. That makes me sad :(
This game is great. i didn't like the idea that there are only 3 drivers but because of the great gameplay and fun factor I sort of got over it but if like to see more characters in the next tm if we get one.
It would be cool if you were to fall off the motorcycle when it went sideways and hold onto it and drag the character across the concrete and scrape them up.
I recently played it again after many years and the gameplay is really fun. The destruction is greatly improved and felt like 2 and Black combined. Talon is fun but I agree the AI is just non stop on you which is not fun and felt even more chaotic than previous TM games. The worse thing was those gawd awful races, and the moments the ‘cage’ moves. We need a new TM game. Give it to Avalanche Studios.
Actually I like all the points you made, I would love another twisted metal but hopefully it will work on a lot of things mentioned here. For ps4 hopefully
This video popped up on my feed because I've been on Twisted Metal binge lately. I gotta say the thing I disliked most about 2012 was the lack of playable characters. I enjoyed the backstories and the Black-esque tone, but I wanted more story.
I wish multiplayer was better. The sweet tooth was a must pick if you wanted to be viable at all, and the focus should have been last man standing, not team death match
Honestly this could’ve been the best game in the series but they really got fucked with time,it was originally supposed to just be an online multiplayer game with no story but then Sony said “nah you gotta have a story, that’s what the people like” so they just quickly threw together a few half thought out stories,I would love a sequel that’s like the old school games where every character has their own backstory and calypso always fucks them over
Getting gold is actually extremely easy even on hard mode considering that after you beat the game you unlock the Juggernaut vehicle which you can use in every event aside from races and bosses. You can easily melt the AI with it and its special attack is very damaging. The races are also not all that bad once you learn the route.
Gameplay was great. Shadow was a beast so i loved it. Beat it on twisted many times. Idk seem like people had problems with spawn trucks but if you hit them head on they die quck. Bosses and races were dumb though.
Jaffe has always been fantastic when it comes to creating games. Just seems like he shits the bed after the first in a franchise. Can Barlog make the next Twisted Metal please?
Did you say there are other supernatural elements except for calypso what a custom character is? Sweet to his freaking head is on fire and he’s cursed and twisted metal black but you’re right it is still more realistic especially compared to twisted metal two
I'm not a fan of the faction stuff, I very much prefer the layout that was in every game in the series, where every unique character has their own unique vehicle. This doesn't click much with me, but at least the gameplay is fun.
I was hc fan of this genre , i played all when it came .Also played Death Rally , Rock 'n roll racing, Biker Mice smth i dont remember carmagedon , road rash , wipeout vigilante 8, rollcage series , I can say Never liked 2 and this one.(this one has good features , boss mechanics , gameplay and graphics with a shitty ui but story ) . It is sad this genre not envolved into online and become popular
Lets hope they add lots of of different vehicles instead of the misrable handful you got on the ps3 and the ai was terrible i agree it should feel like a war in deathmatch were the vehicles are fighting each other as well as targeting you my other point is the game is too fast paced Also have the ability too add an Ai buddy in team deathmatch mode and have zombies walking arround as an option instead of pedestrians.
Finally, someone who hates the races in this game as much as I do. Yeah, having only three drivers in Story Mode is sad, but they did try to make up for it with having said drivers use any vehicle. However, the game is one of the two games in the series that I see as the worst Twisted Metal games, as other than the races, the game seems to be more focused on online, they changed up the controls, and the worst part, they never did DLC apart from Axel (who was a timed pre-order exclusive who was added for everyone else later on via a game update), which basically killed the game's longevity (especially since it was focused on online play).
I agree with everything u said the game play itself is very good but I feel like it should of been dark like twisted metal black and it’s feel worlds , and definitely hate the fact minion or a real story mode with the other drivers was made to me this wasn’t a real twisted metal that’s jus me
Yeah Twisted Metal is his child but his child is also ~25 years old now... I think he just wanted to work on some new stuff and close his "twisted metal" chapter. I doubt sony wont try another Twisted Metal in the future but the dudes clearly tired of it if he left immediately.
Separating the drivers from their vehicles is kind of a shame. The vehicles are supposed to be an extension of the characters personality, not just a weapon in itself. The FMV cut-scenes are neat even if the story's kinda lame.
The cutscenes were frickin amazing!
To be honest I forgot they even did that. I never remembered the characters, only their vehicles, except Sweet Tooth of course. The death race is an awesome level, the canyon one.
Totally agree, ruined it for me.
Quite suprised Sony has never considered a Twister Metal Battle Royale game.
Hello you...fancy seeing you here. I would think such a Game would do rather well Today!
Larry, that... is a okay idea. I'm really not into battle royals, but twisted metal seems like a good fit.
Imagine TM having 100 or more players in one map. WE HAVE THE TECHNOLOGY! C'MON DAVID JAFFE/SONY
@@JeyVGaming A vehicular battle royale already exists too as proof, look on RUclips for "Not My Car Game".
@Larry Bundy Jr yea pubg released not my car recently and its been causing some stir. its like pubg and twisted metal had a baby
We need another Twisted metal game ASAP this series was the original Battle royal twisted metal black was my fav game
@Elite Soulfly the head guy that made twisted metal isn't really into making games right now. But he did want to make a movie or show in the twisted metal universe which seems like it's happening if what you say is true
YOU TOOK A WEEK OFF WORK TO PLAY TM, Real gamer right there folks
That's what I thought lol
I really miss Twisted Metal, once in a while I get really anxious wondering when the next project comes up.
2 years later, not even a peep about the movie or a new game.
@@derrickquintanilla7378 1 year later, not even a peep about the movie or a new game.
try Crossout its free to play
Over 5 years later and the show is out and got renewed for a second season so maybe, just maybe Sony finally has plans for a new game. They'll obviously need to find a way to make it a third person story driven action game instead of a car combat game because it's Sony after all.
This game was a fantastic blend of the two best Twisted Metal titles (2 and Black). We need a new, proper installment that continues to build on this foundation.
Now were getting one for the ps5! :: )
@@mrmonday677 You're lying.
@@Ashevergreen So it's basically gonna be the same as Twisted Metal 2012 with 100% less content?
Hard pass.
Yeah, it's a shame. If anything, I'd rather they return the contest to tradition in future games (if any) and seriously focus on the AI.
I heard that they didn't add enough characters to the game because they wanted to push it out for Valentine's Day so yeah that f***** everything up at least that's what I heard and Sony really needs to come back with another game
This guy knows! 💪🔥🔥🔥
Yeah you can only play the Story mode co-op offline.....
Jonathan Clark Except that TMB and TM2012 were the only games to have Preacher in. (And TM Lost but we don't look at that)
As we know the endings were bad or twisted and punished the winners if i recall correctly and we know theres supernatural things in twisted metal universe so preacher might have been really possesed amd he was just lied to and punished he met a twisted fate theres no happy endings in twisted metal just twisted outcomes.
@@jasonharvote4093 Well all of twisted metal black is basically just sweet tooths wet dream so none of it is based in reality.
The preacher in twisted metal: black is unforgettable. This game is purely a money grab for fans like me.
I know I'm three years late but the reason the story was this way was because they was developing the game to be an online multiplayer only.
75% into development, Sony went to the developers and asked if they can add a single player to it.
The racing was also added by a coder who suggested it. The lead creater himself didn't like the idea.
I can see im not the only one who loves the twisted metal to this day
Best video game series ever made. I like Halo and gears of war but twisted metal soundtrack along with the video game especially in three and four could never be beat.
2:46 So a demon clown with fire for hair is in no way supernatural? Makes sense.
the story portrays him as a crazy guy in a mask who set his head on fire
I guess a mask that gets stuck on someone’s face isn’t supernatural either
@@poopoo-dk4hu the mask was made by calypso
Apparently he was cursed so that’s why his head is on fire, at least in tm:black
I tried twisted difficulty and i think i died in 10 or 15 seconds
Agustín Hoj the sniping is freaking stupid after normal mode.
Vendetta162X sad but true
Really? I completed Twisted difficulty using Juggernaut lol. Felt cheap, but fuck it, you know?
Yeah Twister was planned along with Crazy 8, Mr. Slam & YJ I think. Jaffe told me they couldn't secure a contract with Sony to complete the DLC.
"This game is awesome."
>Playstation 3 only
"This game is terrible."
.
"Whelp. Time to emulate."
Imagine what they could do now with the PS5.
+vinniecorleone62 agreed. The announcement of this game is what prompted me to buy a PS3
@@Gamingpastime64This & MGS 4 were the reason I love the PS3
they need to make a new twisted metal and the composers from the first 3 in the series need to bring back some of that style of music

God damn it now I can’t unhear it
The gameplay in this just cant be matched.Wish this would come PS4. No we get 20 year old letterbox TM Black instead. Smh
A couple of friends of mine tried to tell me this was the worst game in the series but they judged it solely on the story mode and never played it online like I did. It was a real fucking treat, dude. I wish I could share that experience with them :/
@@rudeboyspodcastI mostly play Challenge Mode but yes the MP is excellent because of the quality Gameplay
My question
WHY IS RACING IN TWISTED METAL
Also the dlc was twister & crazy8
We hear that.
Hello!!!
@PhendranaguardianI still play Challenge Mode to this day. It's a testament to the Gameplay if you can get over the whole Faction deal
Great taste in music my friend. The list you showed in your PS3 was a pleasant surprise
TM2 & 4 are two of my favorites because they were the two I played as a young kid.TM2 was my gateway into the game and I played it with my grandpa
Side note:
You can actually ask him yourself if you have anything you want to know regarding his games or anything, really.
It's sad we haven't seen anything since then
turning off the entire soundtrack the minute you heard a hip-hop song is a little extreme, but okay
Just finished watching all your Twisted Metal reviews (in the order of game release) and my main take away is "Twisted Metal III is my child and you will stop picking on her!"
I understand though.
Absolynth Multiplayer is literally dead, servers are shut down.
The single player is decent enough though
@ I know I know, the glass is just half empty, period. I get it lol
Or if on the large maps, you can fight up to 7 oppenents, then the fun would begin as they will attack each other or you if your there main priority.
But Dark tooth's AI, Dark tooth's AI might be,well, not right to say. If they see you or you hit them, you better start thinking of why you did that because Dark Tooth won't let it be unpunished. They will chase you down till your dead.
Hip hop not welcome in twisted metal? Plenty of darker twisted rappers that would fit the aesthetic...
Clearly this guy doesnt know shit about music.
4 is genuinely one of my favorite ps1 games
The car isn’t just some weapon, it was apart of a characteristic for a specific character
Like Needles Kane and Sweet Tooth or The Grim Reaper with The Reaper motorcycle.
The specials were good for the most part but what got me sad was that some car specials were the same with the chain gun and shit. Also Warthog’s special was basically Axel’s .-.’
All in all I love this game but there were things that rubbed me the wrong way. Also they had DLC coming up with Twister and Mr. Slam (my ALL TIME favorite veichle) But they cancelled it and I was so pissed
The AI hasn't changed since TM1. It's absurd. I agree with your points.
I hope you know that in this game the other cars are all in the same faction, thought the same as you until I saw this, it is a smaller touch but I appreciated it, at least now there is a reason the only fight you
But the AI has behaved like this since the first game. Also, the faction stuff makes more sense in a team deathmatch type of mode.
Gaming Pastime will you ever review TM:Head on, thats my favorite in the franchise and my second TM game I played(first being TM3 which is definetly not as bad as people say it is) anyway keep up the dope ass content my man
TM:HO, 4, and Small Brawl will all be covered.
I believe you are correct about the single player being an afterthought.
The sweet tooth gang is like if ya can't beat him join em
Twisted metal Netflix original series ASAP (this in cinematography mixed with black in story is what it should be)
I feel like they missed an opportunity too name they company Calypso Corporation instead of Calypso Industries.
I've managed to beat the game with a gold medal on every level on TWISTED, it was SO DAMN IMPOSSIBLE!!
I love Grim's Flaming Chainsaw, it's a one shot kill allot of the time.
The only game I ever actually wanted DLC for.
There is more I can say but I have to get to work.
kylepac I couldn't of said it better, apart from juggernauts in the story mode, they were either way to easy or stupidly hard.
I'm surprised you never mention how TM Head On does when unlocking cars. You were literally racing to the finish in those bonus stages.
Darktooth didn't make it...
At least you can make it though
Tower tooth
It would be cool if you were to fall off the motorcycle when it went sideways and hold onto it and drag the character across the concrete and scrape them up.
Your not the only one who loves twisted metal 3 and 4, i also really love em
I absolutely loved Twisted Metal 4. Especially the special moves.
Best twisted metal
I loved tm4, best variety
What people forget about part 3 is that it was 4 way PS1 play. Memories
Sniper is a pain in the ass on hard ai gets the one shot all the time
Headshots by the A.i. should have only been allowed on Twisted difficulty if at all. My homie hates that when he streams on Twitch.
I wish multiplayer was better. The sweet tooth was a must pick if you wanted to be viable at all, and the focus should have been last man standing, not team death match
Can you just stick a flash drive into the ps3 and play music through that.
Honestly this could’ve been the best game in the series but they really got fucked with time,it was originally supposed to just be an online multiplayer game with no story but then Sony said “nah you gotta have a story, that’s what the people like” so they just quickly threw together a few half thought out stories,I would love a sequel that’s like the old school games where every character has their own backstory and calypso always fucks them over
This game made enjoy vehicle based games which I was never a fan of before.
I wish there was a spoof video where Weird Al plays Calypso
Getting gold is actually extremely easy even on hard mode considering that after you beat the game you unlock the Juggernaut vehicle which you can use in every event aside from races and bosses. You can easily melt the AI with it and its special attack is very damaging. The races are also not all that bad once you learn the route.
Gameplay was great. Shadow was a beast so i loved it. Beat it on twisted many times. Idk seem like people had problems with spawn trucks but if you hit them head on they die quck. Bosses and races were dumb though.
We got 4 TW on PS1, 2 and a half on PS2, 1 on PS3, none on PS4...
Still hoping for a new one.
Have you ever played Roadkill?
Funny you mention that. A review of Roadkill will be coming.
Jaffe has always been fantastic when it comes to creating games. Just seems like he shits the bed after the first in a franchise. Can Barlog make the next Twisted Metal please?
I always hate unlocking stuff threw challenges as it just feel cheep.
I always found it odd
That Preacher was in the game but
Brimstone wasn't
It is kind of a shame. Brimstone was rather cool.
Great review bro, stay metal 🤘😣
How many twisted metal reviews you gonna do?
I enjoyed 4 the most but black sure comes close! Black 2 looked like it had better graphics than black , anyone else agree ?
Did you say there are other supernatural elements except for calypso what a custom character is? Sweet to his freaking head is on fire and he’s cursed and twisted metal black but you’re right it is still more realistic especially compared to twisted metal two
Well, a new game was announced for the PS5 so there's hope.
This is where I met TM
I liked the first race but that was about it.
Also I hated the fact that the characters aren't associated with the car
The only hip-hop track that goes with this game is The Champ by Ghostface
Lets hope they add lots of of different vehicles instead of the misrable handful you got on the ps3 and the ai was terrible i agree it should feel like a war in deathmatch were the vehicles are fighting each other as well as targeting you my other point is the game is too fast paced
Also have the ability too add an Ai buddy in team deathmatch mode and have zombies walking arround as an option instead of pedestrians.
