  • This was an interesting build for one of my earliest clients. The objective was to store rings and cuff links. The wood is jatoba which is quite dense. Each squiggle is 3/4" thick and received 3/8" radius roundovers on either edge to give a half-round profile. The finish is Rubio Monocoat.

    The whole time I was thinking "uhh...how is this a box?" and at the end I just smiled - what a cool piece! Very unique, elegant, and well made. Thanks for sharing.

    When you made the squiggle wine rack, it was my thing of the week on Because We Make. Had this dropped before we recorded this week I totally would have picked another of your squiggle designs. This is fantastic, and it turns jewelry storage into art!

      Thanks Vincent!! I remember discussing the wine rack on the podcast and talking about leaving the edges square and sharp. I went round this time and think it really takes it to the next level.

    Cool design. Didn't quite get the shine from that Rubio that most people get. That's a bit disappointing.

    • @parillaworks
      @parillaworks  2 года назад

      Thanks! Ya. A good portion of this is end grain because of the curves. A second coat definitely would’ve brought out some sheen.

  • @reubentheobald
    @reubentheobald 2 года назад

    Just a tip on the Rubio - I found that its not actually 3:1... If you do that you end up with left over in the big tin. if you do 11:3 (3.6666:1) then it works out correctly.

    • @parillaworks
      @parillaworks  2 года назад

      I’ve noticed the same thing, running out of accelerator. I wonder if the 11:3 ratio is just as effective.

    • @reubentheobald
      @reubentheobald 2 года назад

      @@parillaworks it seems to work perfectly fine still for me. It actually says "appr. 3 units A to 1 unit B" on the tin, so I assume it can't be too picky...

    Nice Work, but it would be more artistic if you would cut your reference piece by hand not cnc.

  • @williamdawson3353
    @williamdawson3353 2 года назад

    Not a CNC fan. Letting a computer do your work is not wood working it is design and let a machine do it. I'd like to make a box like that but just the materials are prohibitive.

    • @parillaworks
      @parillaworks  2 года назад

      A CNC is just another tool that takes time to learn and use properly. I’ll tell you this, it’s much more difficult to use than a thickness planer but no one knocks someone for using one.
