Even though the squiggle is suppose to be a pen and pencil trap, I would imagine this would be a dream to hold a bolt of fabric or paper in so you can just pull it over the desk. Bonus points if you put a cutting guide on the "racing stripe."
That's brilliant.
That is a good looking desk. I particularly like the end grain transition strip. Nice pen/pencil slot too. You're always coming up with unique designs and executing them well.
Thanks David! That strip was a happy accident that turned out better than expected!
Totally agree ,looks great.
Now THIS is a custom standing desk top! Most 'tubers do a slab or butcher block. It's nice to see some originality.
Thanks Eric! I'm keeping this one so I felt a little more free to go "out there" with the design.
Oh man, I was looking for this video for so many years after I had first watched it, only to find out that I had it saved for the same reason.
Your end grain fix is actually the highlight of a beautiful work.
It’s like the anti desk. It’s soft edged and squiggly topped rather than the sharp edged flat topped standard. I absolutely love it!
Pair these creative elements with a ‘live edge’ slab is now on my (growing) todo list.
Wow!! Just love the inset strip, a great idea even if it was Plan B....and the squiggle is the perfect place for a roll of fabric if used as a cutting table. I want one!!
the swivel is so cool! perfect place for wallets, phones, keys, and whatever else you may be carrying before arrving to the desk.
Enviable design sense!
That's a lot of power usage, the cost of luxury!
very subtle outro of the main feature of the desk kudos
I can't count how many times my original design changed due to trying things I never did before. In the end, its my experience that such necessities create beautiful results. Its the oddities that make life so rich.
it looks so beautiful to me.
And I really appreciate the open insight and calmness.
It gives a lot of room for trying and finding out. JOYESS!
Thank you very much. Its inspiring. Cheers
Very nice. Creative, visually pleasing, functional and easily customizable. Well done! Thank you for sharing.
Love the dip! Awesome project. I'm thinking on having something similar on my next desk. Thanks for the inspiration!
Beautiful! I love pen and pencil trap. Changes from another ordinary table to unique piece.
My cats would be utterly confounded by the pen/pencil trap. I love it!
Superb workmanship and design. I have been reluctant to use metal legs on a table or desk but I'm now sold on the idea.
Thanks a lot Alan!
Slick! Love the simplicity and innovation
Man you got a lot of tools,,,, I am jealous. I could do SO Much with all that.
Love it. The end grain insert looks fantastic.
Thanks for sharing another great project and for including your ideas, where things went "sideways" and how you solved it!
Came out beautifully, I’m glad you kept the natural beauty of the wood when applying the finish.
Thanks Roman!
I agree. i think cherry is a beautiful wood especially when it's finished with oil, so it'd be shame to lose that with color on top.
Nice recovery from the box joints. Props for leaving it in the video; you could have easily edited it out. Seeing and learning from that makes us all better woodworkers.
thank you for leaving in the box joint error. Its happens and its nice to people who know what they are doing making the same mistakes as us mear mortals
Superb craftsmanship!
Gorgeous build
The desk top came out fantastic. I think the top goes well with the FlexiSpot stand. 👍👍👍👍👍
Thanks Jim!
That is a really creative beautiful piece! I especially like that it has an almost organic look to it.
@@creamwobbly 😂
Fantastic design! And adapting when something didn't go quite as planned was superb. Excellent video.
Beautiful work and some great ideas - both original and addressing issues.
unique concept on the desk top. It has both visual interest and function. Thank you for the video.
Thanks James!
Nice job! I really like the end grain idea and the pencil tray, plus the adjustability. Really nice.
Love the concept, it's almost like a tool well in a wood working bench.
Nice work!
Thanks!
Cool! I think you made out by the box joints not working. The bridge with the end grain transition is beautiful. Great project...thanks for posting.
tip : to give router bit more support when routing on edge use a big hand screw clamp
Great work. Love the rolling pen stop.
I wish I had a tenth of your talent. And thanks for including your errors, it makes a huge difference to know you're not always perfect :)
From my perspective a unique design, looks great, nice work. Cheers
really like the desktop. good idea for lots of scraps
Really cool project and some awesome problem solving. Nicely done.
"That's just my face" 🤣 outstanding build! I'm getting ready to build my wife a desk with a walnut top, and this might be just the base for it. Looks like having a drawer underneath might not be possible though?
Thanks Jeffrey! There's definitely room for a drawer, especially if you go a little bit longer with the desk. I believe FlexiSpot sells some accessories like undermount storage and whatnot. For a wood drawer set, you would just need to work around the cross bar. There's still a fair amount of room to work with.
Very nice and unique design
Great video! Clearly explained. I like the roundover on the perimeter. Keep up the excellent work!
That was great! I really liked how you made the best of the situation with the end grain transition.
Thanks Matthew!
Beautiful desk surface! Well done!
well done man. beautiful build.
That is one awesome desk
Beautiful work... for a leftie. ;o) That pen trap can double as a shotgun cradle. Thanks for sharing your passion!
Very unique and an enjoyable video to watch! Thanks!
That thumbnail!!! Excellent work👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
beautiful design and results. Love the finish.
Thanks Jeff!
that good the box joints didn't work because the end grain looks great good choice on that absolutely love the desk
Beautiful project. Well done.
Great design! Also, besides pencils it can catch dropped coffee too
Lol thank you. It’s currently holding loose Legos.
Absolutely love this desk.
Thanks Jeff!
Wow, that turned out great!
"That's just my face" Nice one bro!
Amazing work! I love it... I'd like to make my own desk in the future now.
Cool design
Nice job. This is beautiful.
Beautiful piece
this is truly unique!
Very nice! It looks like your CNC might be a Shapoko XXL. If so, you might have enough room to mount the desk edge vertically at the front of the CNC table to cut the fingerjoints. As you probably know, the Shapeoko bit can extend a couple of inches forward of the edge of the table. I've done that for some of my projects.
Even if the table is too long for that, you might be able to lay it flat on the CNC table and cut most of the fingerjoints with a 1/4" bit, then clean up the corners with a 1/16" bit to get close to a right angle, and then clean up what little remains with a chisel. I've done that, too.
That’s a good point and something I should look into! Thanks!
As usual another awesome piece - thanks for sharing.
Damn! What a beautiful work, John! 😃
Really fantastic looking table!!! Nicely done!!!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Excelente trabajo. Gracias por compartirlo!

Would you mind making a short about the standing domino jig? Like how do you stifle the vibrations? Cool pencil trap!
Thanks Clement. I may go into more detail about it next time I use it. The 4mm dominos aren’t very hard to control but like you alluded to, the larger ones can cause some vibration. I have the dock plate from Seneca that has a built in clamp. That will keep everything secure and also keep your hands further from the bit.
Nice job man!!
MAN! I LOVE the squiggle! I've been seeing the teasers on IG...looks amazing...as always. I recently used one of those bases on a top I made for a Twitch gamer friend of mine, Smokaloke. It has the adjustable base and I put an addressable LED strip around the edge so he can program different lighting effects for his stream. The top was 1.5" thick Walnut and I put cherry bowties in all the knots. Beautiful in the light AND the dark.
Thanks Roland! The one you maids sounds awesome!
Excellent design.
nice work. love it
great work dude!!
Beautiful job! I'd say the box joint incident was very fortunate because the section with end grain is amazing. Using the CNC to cut dowel holes is something I wouldn't have though of, and I'm a pretty avid dowel use now thanks to yours and art mulder's videos on the dowelmax.
Really awesome.
A beautiful modern Table. ;- )
Awesome Build!
Pretty sweet 👍
Beautiful piece, John~! I really like the squiggle cord management idea, as well as the main squiggle pen/pencil catcher. My wife was watching over my shoulder and asked, "When are you going to build one of those for me?" I haven't answered yet...
(I'm still working on the mini-apothecary cabinet for her that she doesn't know about.) ;-)
Thanks Andrew! Good luck with the apothecary cabinet! I hope she likes it!
Sometimes mistakes lead to amazing achievement
Very cool desk
love this
Very nice!!! Ciao from Italy
Good job !
Nice work
Nothing more to say except outstanding design and build!
That's awesome design 😍
In my house, that squiggle would be the cat bed. :)
The squiggle is art, I love it. You have a cnc, why didn't you cut the fingers on that? The fingers although strong don't look half as good as your end grain joint. It's really beautiful. I noticed that the inside of the squiggle looked a little rough. A curved bottom plane would get in there.
Thanks! I considered cutting squiggly round fingers with the CNC but I wasn’t confident I could execute it properly.
Great job
Amazing work!
Wood is beautiful ! I would prefer a higher sheen. . .
5:17 Fan: "yes yes you messed up yes yes"
This gave me a good laugh! Had to go back to see what you meant.
Pels shirt! My man!! Great desk, by the way. Glad to see you didn’t edit out your problem solving with the joints. Sounds as though you like how it turned out?
Ya I’m really happy with it! My brother works for the Pels and Saints so they’re my honorary second teams!
@@parillaworks Oh, no kidding?! Have season tickets to both. Do you live around this area?
Oh that’s awesome! I live in south Florida but was up there in June. Great city! My brother is Anthony Parilla if you have any Saints and Pels issues!
Looks great! Very nice.....
Nice Work👌
Un trabajo precioso, saludos desde España
LOVE!❤️
Nice one
nice design
