Thank you! Thank you! for this fabulous tutorial. I went to my local hardware store, bought an O-Ring (1-5/8 x 1-3/4 x 1/16), put some WD40 on a tiny paintbrush to re-lube the mechs, removed the bizillion screws and it now works like new. You, sir, are amazing!
Thank you for giving the measurements of the o-ring. We just placed an order for them. We have WD-40 but we aren't exactly sure where on the mechanisms we should be applying it. Any help you can give us would be appreciated. Thank you. Barbara & Ernest
@@ernestkienzle6058 It's been 3 years ago, and I don't recall, but if you just apply a tiny bit to each gear area or where any gears or moving metal parts and wheels, pulleys, etc. connect, it should help.
Daun, We appreciate your responding to our question about where to apply the lube to the mechanisms. We should be receiving the 0-rings soon and hope that we are as successful as you were in getting the figurines to move again. Thanks for your help. Barbara & Ernest
MY MOTHER GOT ONE OF THESE FROM MY GREAT UNCLE AND WE STILL HAVE IT!!! THE EXACT SAME PLAY we retired it this year becuase we didnt want to risk it breaking BUT YEAH ITS BASICALLY THE SAME but with big wood boarders
This is a great tutorial. Can you remember how the top came off? I have removed the finial and the screw but am afraid to pry if there are more screws? Thank you.
Hi Christine, I am sorry but I do not remember anything being necessary to get inside the unit except for removing 22 screws and the 1 nut in the bottom center (see at approx 2:38 in the video).
do you know what I can use for an AC adapter? I dont have one. I found one for another product that fit and output 6v 300ma not the 6v 600ma this one calls for. It didnt turn on but idk if that was due to it being underownerd or broken. Any idea how to troubleshoot this thing?
Thought we had it fixed but only two scenes moved. We too the contact base off to work on and now none of the characters move. Any thought on what happened and how to repair.
Thank you for the video, got the several screws out except for one by the back wire but the base is very stubborn to get off the bolt where the nut is attached. Any clue on how you prayed off that tight fit where the nut was removed. did you reach in with a long screwdriver to try to get it loose from the inside by prying off the contact plate? any comment appreciated.
Big Slick or anyone, we have a problem getting the base off. 8 screws have come off but there is a circular depressed shaft (circular) not a bolt. How can I remove it? Or get inside? Any help is appreciated.
My Nutcracker Suite (wood frame) music box will play the intro when I turn it on and then stops.CURTAINS won't open and nothing happens. Had been perfectly fine.Any ideas tell me why this happened?
I would have asked if you could film the gears underneath the stage spinning but only to realize that this was your ex's device which you no longer had access to. I'm both a composer and an (not-so-qualified) enthusiast in gear transmission so please could I comment: The Nutcracker Suite by Tchaikovsky consists of 8 movements (and so is the music here - except for the Mirliton split into two separate ones). However, it's a pity that the machine comes with only 4 scenes in alternation (and so, for example, the Sugar-Plum Fairy dance comes with a wrong setting - this dance is not for pairing); but nonetheless, I understand it's unrealistic to install any additional gears (look at how dense!), let alone any additional scenes. If I had the chance to, I would've suggested the manufacturer to cut down on music so that the music and the scene match each other.
@@oliviaroberts4575 Hi Olivia. The issue is that these units are fragile, and shipping it 2 directions (to me, and then back to you) is risky. The chance of it cracking or having serious damage to the fragile mechanism is quite high, and that kind of damage would not be repairable. It's a large, delicate, plastic item. Difficult to pack safely. It would be much safer if you could find someone local to you with general DIY skills and just show them my video. Also, the cost of 2-way shipping would not be cheap due to the physical size of the music box (shippers charge by package size, regardless of weight, for an item of this size).
Thank you. My wife was heartbroken that it was not turning. We appreciate your instructions.

Thank you so much, followed your steps and all is working again!
How did you get the base off the screw where the nut was removed - very tight fit

@@bigslick Christine - how did you finally get if off - havi9ng the same trouble - tight fit where the nut was attached. Afraid i'll break
do you remember the o-ring size? I have the same problem and most likely need the o-ring also.
O-ring is 1-5/8 x 1-3/4 x 1/16
Is there somewhere I could send mine to be repaired?
Any luck?

It's been 3 years ago, and I don't recall. So sorry.
I had the same issue and there is a screw at the top of the unit that released the bottom.
Are you still reading comments on this video? If so, I have a question on opinion for the 22 screw removal on the bottom.

The curtain keeps opening and closing, it won't stay open during each scene. Any thoughts?
im having the same problem did you figure it out
Nothing yet😟 It's all apart and still can't figure why.

Are you selling this??
It is my Ex's so it is not part of my life anymore unfortunately, I miss little things like this and the good times.
@@bigslick would you be open to fixing mine if I shipped it to you? My mom wants hers fixed and I think it would make a great gift.

Alguien sabe si en México se puede mandar reparar este teatro?
