Mike's complete and utter shock at what Kim had to tell him was really good. He doesn't do much facial acting besides his usual 'I'm too old for this' look, but when he gets an opportunity to flex, he does it.

Howard has by far the worst fate out of anyone from either show. Completely made a fool of and humiliated professionally and personally, losing his stringent reputation that he spent his whole life building, made a complete pawn in a scheme for settlement money so Kim could start a pro bono firm which is never gonna happen now, so it was all for nothing. Not to mention being murdered and buried with Lalo in a ditch under the floor of a meth lab.

I can never watch the Fly episode of Breaking Bad the same way ever again. This episode was as intense as Ozymandias and that's crazy as it's a prequel and u know which characters survive. I thought Lalo was gunna stick around until the end of the season and the finale was going to have the confrontation. Of course Gilligan does the opposite and now who knows what's gunna happen in the next 5 eps!

One of the things liked about Gus's paranoia towards Lalo was how it kinda reminded me of Walter's similar paranoia towards Gus and how careful both characters had to plan how they'ed eventually prevail in the end. It's also probably why Gus wasn't very trusting with Walter throughout Breaking Bad even back during their first meeting because Walter much like Gus is always trying to be on top.

6:22 Next episode Gus will probably go to the old people's home to taunt Hector about Lalo's death which is partly Hector's fault since he was so relieved his nephew was alive he gave Gus a look of clear excitement that Lalo would eventually kill Gus letting Gus know he was alive and ruining Lalo's plan to fake his death, find evidence of Gus's meth lab and send it to Eladio.

This episode was so perfect. Sure, you knew Gus wasn't gonna die but that was one AMAZING speech, very reminiscent of Nacho's. The first half was more intense for me, and is effectively intense upon rewatch, even after you know that Kim isn't going to die (yet). The lead-up to her walking in the house was so fantastic, and Jimmy forced to look into the eyes of a man whose blood was on his hands perfectly mirrored "Ozymandias", where Walt similarly fell over in the sand and stared into Hank's lifeless face.

It was an amazing midseason premiere. I didn't expect the Lalo story to go on as long as you did, but I thought the opener would be a setup one, and then Lalo's story would be resolved next week. Gus saying how he felt to Lalo was great . And then we had Mike as the moral compass to the show with his reaction to Howard's death. What a visual too, of Lalo and Howard getting buried together.

Great episode. Loving your coverage of it Cody. This episode I did enjoy but it left a bad taste in my mouth. Howard being buried with a monster on top of Jimmy and Kim ruining his reputation is just awful. Even Mike was disgusted with his death. And possibly even disappointed in Jimmy and Kim schemes against him. Overall I think this will affect Kim more. Plus her fate being uncertain, I think those 2 things are linked. I'm never going to look at those lab scenes in breaking bad the same again. Knowing it's a unmarked grave. Plus now I think that fly was Lalo or Howard reincarnated. I think Kim will die. My theory is that for the rest of this season Jimmy and Kim have to keep quiet for Guss Fring, and since Kim has the least experience with crime of the two, eventually she can't take it anymore and reveals something about Howard and Lalo to someone, causing Guss to come after her. This explains why kim doesn't appear in breaking bad and why no morality remains in jimmy and becomes Saul

What's underwhelming is that, Lalo outsmarted 5 assasins during the ambush, while Gus never really showed any expertise in handling guns, and was able to hit Lalo in partial darkness. I was expecting that in order to really beat Lalo in a gun fight, Gus needs to pull something bigger rather than turning off the lights and running towards the gun. But I am also considering the fact that Lalo gave too much opportunity to Gus but it's still not enough for him to beat in a gun fight like that.

  • @dinglbarry1275

The Better Call Saul fanbase is probably the most generous fan base towards a show that I've ever witnessed before as it's still airing. Don't get me wrong I'm pleased with the season, but the solutions to the major storylines thus far haven't creatively come together that well. I'm content with them and they're certainly not failures, but it's not at the level 10 status that the fan base is putting it on. The Nacho storyine is the exception, which I thought came together well, but the whole Howard thing was an insanely forced storyline that doesn't make much sense in it's entirety. The show essentially used the hand of god to solve a storyline that would have left us scratching our heads other wise. All of that build up with this big plan against Howard merely being to make him seem crazy, so he would have to settle the big lawsuit? Seriously? That was it. But thanks to the hand of God Lalo shows up and kills him, so now it's this masterpiece in writing. And then when it comes to Lalo vs Gus. It's solved by Gus allowing himself to be taking hostage by Lalo and cross his fingers that he wouldn't be executed sooner (that he would first let him give a video tutorial on his displeasure with the cartel) or even tied up for that matter with the plan being, to kick the power off grab a gun and shoot Lalo before he gets shot (if I was generous I would have given Gus a thousand to one odds of pulling that off). That was an astronomical gamble on Gus's part that luckily worked out for him. So the writing was relatively forced... they didn't have to create anything that would come together, they were solved in that very moment it happened by the hand of God.
In the end I don't think it's a massive dock against the show or anything because I have a feeling that the Kim/Jimmy storyline (the one that matters the most) is going to piece together nicely based on hints from the cast and what not, but who knows. I'm sort of just taken aback by how receptive the fan base has been towards this show and these two storylines closing out as if they were the greatest ideas ever to come together on the screen before, whereas they both were essentially solved using the hand of god rather than a creative idea that had to come together.

    • @dinglbarry1275
      @dinglbarry1275 2 года назад

@@Brolyrulz1 - it's not even in the same discussion as Breaking Bad in terms of quality. Breaking Bad has so much more creative depth. In Breaking Bad think of the creativity in the episode Salud and what Gus had to creatively do to get out of that situations vs kicking off the power grabbing a gun and killing Lalo before Lalo shoots him. Think of the episode confessions in BB where Walt gives Hank/Marie the blackmail tape and all of the brilliant variables that had to fall into place to put Hanks back against the wall vs, how the writing solved the Howard storyline, which had nothing to do with Jimmy and Kim's scheme.... Lalo will randomly show up and kill Howard. I'm sure the writers were just hoping that the fans would be content with it as they move onto and close out the more important Jimmy/Kim storyline, but the fanbase for reasons unknown think it's the greatest thing ever written. They used the hand of God to close out both Howard and Lalo... it's not even my opinion, that notoriously known as bad writing when you use a random act to solve your narratives.

While I can definitely understand your arguments and you actually do a solid job explaining them, so well done, but respectfully, I firmly disagree:
Firstly, with all due respect, I’m not sure why Howard “Being made to look crazy so he’s forced to settle” is somehow anticlimactic as, to me, it’s made abundantly clear that that was the conclusion they were always heading towards.
Secondly, while I definitely get why people say that the Howard campaign was “Forced”, especially on the part of Kim’s character, I find every Jimmy and Kim’s campaign against Howard to be perfectly justified by natural cause and effect (I can explain this more in depth if you’d like)
Now, as for Lalo “Randomly showing up”, this is an understandable point and I get why others have also criticized this, but I still completely disagree. We learn a few episodes prior that Jimmy and Kim are not priority targets and as such, Lalo is able to sneak past Gus’s men and get inside. I find this to be entirely logical and justified by natural cause and effect, but I definitely get why others may disagree.
Finally, for the confrontation between Gus and Lalo, I actually totally understand why this is such a heavily criticized scene of the show, but I still think it makes perfect sense. Firstly, as this season continuously reinforces, Gus has been pushed to his absolute limit, so I find any sort of logical gaps in his plans completely narratively justified. As for him banking everything on Lalo not straight up executing him, to me, that also makes total sense because he knows that Lalo can’t kill him without sufficient proof of Gus’s misdeeds. As such, he knows he’ll have substantial time before he is killed or captured to do whatever he’d like.
All of that being said, however, you do a good job explaining your points, so I commend you for that, I am just of the personal opinion that every single plotline in this season is perfectly logically justified by natural cause and effect instead of being forced. Please don’t think I’m trying to tell you you’re wrong or anything like that, this is just my own perspective.

@@dinglbarry1275I don’t like getting into the compare game with media in general and I honestly don’t really feel the need argue whether BCS is superior to BrBa or vice versa (Primarily because I actually consider them one long 11 season show, but that’s its own discussion), but what I will say is regarding the example you give to compare them, imo, while I definitely get where you’re coming from regarding being annoyed that Howard’s death results from something unrelated to Jimmy and Kim, to me, that’s precisely the point. Jimmy and Kim are responsible for a domino effect of events that ultimately lead to Howard’s demise, which creates the very difficult moral question of whether or not they can truly be held responsible for Howard’s fate. I really like this because it’s a consistent theme of the show, the murkiness and complexity of culpability and blame, so I don’t have a problem with Lalo’s presence feeling disconnected from the main storyline of Jimmy and Kim because I find it entirely thematically and narratively fitting. But this is still a totally fair point to raise and I’m glad you’re raising it, this is just my own thoughts.

I wonder if the DEA will ever find their bodies. They did seize the lab after Gus' death, but they'd still have to dig deep in the right spot to find them.
It might take decades for that to happen though.

Ill be honest, I didn't like how Lalo died. Hes been 10 steps ahead of Mike and Gus this whole show and THATS how he loses? I also think back to his compound ambush that he survived. How could he die the way he did lol? But I just keep telling myself Lalo is a Salamanca, and he got cocky like his family members would and he thought there was no way that "the chicken man" had something up his sleeve.

It would have been slightly better if they dug a hole in the wall, imprisoned Lalo there with Horward's body. A slow painful death from starvation all while having to smell the decaying corpse of the man he killed. It would have been in Gus' character to be cruel like that.
