Marillion - Torch Song

- Read some Kerouac and it put me on the tracks to burn a little brighter now
Something about roman candles fizzing out, shine a little light on me now
Found a strange fascination with a liquid fixation, alcohol can thrill me now
It's getting late in the game to show any pride or shame
I just burn a little brighter now, burn a little brighter now
Doctor says my liver looks like leaving with my lover, need another time-out now
Like any sort of hero turning down to zero still standing out in any crowd
Pulling seventeen with experience and dreams, sweating out a happy hour
Where you're hiding 29 you know it ain't a crime
To burn a little brighter now, burn a little brighter now
Dr. Finlay: "And my advice is if you maintain this lifestyle you won't reach 30"
Torch: "Christ - it's a romantic way to go really, it's part of the heritage, it's your round i'n'it?"
We burn a little brighter now

Fish was "hiding 29" (born 1958) when this album was recorded. A masterpiece from start to finish.
Yes,the BEST album of Marillion
@@ninometalyears it is i bought it on cassette
@@paulmcdonough1093 I bought two vinyls and two CDs,and I have the cover tape with my own record inside
What does it mean "hiding 29"?
@@zemariabellodias That he's soon going to be 30 years old and he's feeling embarrassed or depressed about still living his life in a drunken hedonistic way at that age.
This song is with me every day for last 20 years. With God's help - will stay another 20.
Was just sitting all alone and was struck by the lyrics . Very punchy and awesome , burn a little brighter NOW 🤘💥
At 52 this song still resonates with me. Read Kerouac On the road, burnt candles and drank Jack. Widowed too soon but still burning brighter.
Still listening to Marillion and still burning candles. Off the JD, but on track with life
At 56 this band still blow me away
Fish said this was the best album he had made with marillion its awesome
Old is gold , this is heartbreaking stuff but always sounds brilliant no matter who many years pass 💙
35 years ago I heard this album for the first time. It still give me the shivers, thank you Fish for the amazing years.
A peaceful song with strong meaning. If and it is a big if I live to be 100 years old, this song will always mean so. Much!
His voice is simply fascinating

The best album of Marillion
if you carry on with this lifestyle you won`t reach 30, i burned the candle at both ends when i was a lad hoping that this would come true, i`m 48 now and have no contingency plan,,,,, thanks Fish for leading me down the garden path :-(
to be fair- he's still a few steps ahead of you mate- its you that decided to keep following him.
Memories..Such a brilliant lyricist,
One of my favourite Marillion albums 'Clutching at Straws', so many good tracks, it's a musical story book from start to finish, something lacking these days in modern music.
AMAZING
beautiful !!
Beautiful song.
Love this song 🔝🔝
i`m not really a fan of `prog` but as a former piss artist i must say that fish wrote some of the best ever `drinking` songs
Great track from clutching at straws, only recently discovered Marillion and think there brilliant, wish there was a tab for this song

amazing song and band
On a serious note. I've had a cough now for 3 months that won't leave me. Had an chest X-ray last week. Waiting for the results. Hiding 43 and feeling the flame dimmer a little more I guess. Oh well, I will burn a little brighter this Friday evening.
Thanks for sharing this.
ahhhhhh- love the weekend
Gleaming ..!
Great!
The song that brought me to "On the Road". An incredibly good album, it's right behind "Selling England ..." in my book. And tonight it fits the mood again.
This song sounds strange but addicting
Such a fantastic song . Press play and stick it on repeat
This song saddened me so!!!!.........
One of my fav's by one of the best! Burn!
One of the best record ever,Derick is still one of my besties😁✌️
Excelente canción !!!!!!!
Great piece of art reminds me of my first wife I use to play this in the house but she didn't like it, no wonder the marriage didn't work out...
Jim Martinez haha
Good riddance lol
Burning brighter but abandoned by all.
It still does, of course!!
This álbum are amazing
This excellent song is about.....drinking...and alcoholism....
Still playing this great song many times after falling in love with it 20 years ago.....
What an amazing atmosphere!
Curious about Fish' healt these day...if he still likes to swim in firewater. Doing things like that to much myself. If I maintain this lifestile I won't reach next Christmas. A nice song at my funeral *_*
Are you still here?
I totally get this. God help me . With my last breath.
Era Fish tidak akan kembali, tetapi kami selalu mengingatnya kembali.
Many thanks for posting this song. one of my favourites from Marillion/Fish.
It brings me back years ago when an English Marillion's lover tried to persuade a very young French lady that Marillion was one of the best bands in the world...
Even though I don't know of Marillions's complete work, I still believe he was quite true ... though he was a complete freak !
Had the same experience as an English Marillion lover and a young Italian girl. I may be a freak as well!
une perle musicale et vocale
demasiado buena
My funeral song best album ever
nice song :D
Quelle époque avec mon ami Gunas et ma golf gti 😪
guitare arpege wonderful performance.
ROCK PROGRESSIVE, MY FRIENDS.
It's your round isn't it?
if you maintain this lifestyle you won't reach thirty... cough. cough... christ! sort of a romantic way to go really.. part of the heritage.
Christ...was it?
Absolutely fabulous track. Fish
was magnificent then. So sorry this was the last real album they made.
But Brave was decent right?
I liked Brave immensely, that foghorn at the beginning made my hair stand up on end...
The first version I ever heard was live, and even more exciting! (Made again)?
as a smoker i'm gonna burn my little brighter right now we only live once
David Osbourne Could always replace that with "you only die once". Difficult to live life to the full with only 1 lung and an oxygen canister in tow...
+Scott McGregor well u right Scott.I have been stopped smoking since then...
@TheHakanKorkut Well Good luck to you and I hope your situation works out for the best.Keep you head up and put on Marillion...Good Luck friend, LBjim
capolavoro
I don't think Marillion ever topped this sublime song. (Is the ultra-blurred album cover supposed to mimic the effect of 10 pints?!)
still have vinil of this album, if someone wanna buy it only can disappointing him
top band top song had all the marrillion lp from years ago aswell as some limited edition copies of these and the smith loyd cole so many more. then i moved to london left them in a box and told mum dont touch! couple of years later i asked mum where are my collectors lp "oh them she replied i took them the car boot" MUMs!! gets better, that slap in the face that is mum then tells me that it was her best day at the car boot my collection netting her £700+ for my records this was about 5yrs ago
Complete narcisism and nihilism. A sad but great song...

[Verse 1]
Read some Kerouac and it put me on the tracks
To burn a little brighter now
Something about Roman candles fizzing out

Alcohol can thrill me now
It's getting late in the game to show any pride or shame
I just burn a little brighter now
[Refrain]
Burn a little brighter now, yeah
[Verse 2]
Doctor says my liver looks like leaving with my lover
Need another 'time out' now
Like any sort of hero turning down to zero
Still standing out in any crowd
Pulling seventeen with experience and dreams
Sweating out a happy hour
When you're hiding 29 you know it ain't a crime
To burn a little brighter now
[Refrain]
Burn a little brighter now
Burn a little brighter now
Burn a little brighter now

I love this song but it has all new meaning since my oldest friend finally drank herself to death at age 45. We started drinking together. I stopped drinking, she didn't.
Heather Gray sadness
I am lucky that all that bright burning didn't leave me a black cinder.
likely washed a decade of projected lifespan from me.
@169tke i gave it up at 45 -five years ago-pubs are not what they were anyway
Only with Fish-Nice.
32 years old now.. Injuried liver.
By burning a little brighter now and then..
sofisticación horca song
Found a strange fascination with a liquid fixation for a year or so , to easy to do , i lost most my life in that time , like it dont love it !!!!
Yeah, no shit. I haven't heard this in at least 20yrs. Was a great album, the last worth while thing Marillion did, in my opinion.
I maintained that lifestyle...reached 43. Don't know if I'll reach 50 though!
so... did you make 50?
Sometimes my biases may be incorrect?.
po POLSKU ZAJE-po prostu-BISTE!!! ;)
my liver hurts
My liver is cement, my nose is trashed, my lungs are wrecked.
My brain is half oatmeal...
The 80s...for lots of people.
I know what you mean brother...
@LBjim Every girlfriend I've had has hated the music I listen to! Is it a conspiracy or do I listen to too much prog?!
Who is here in 2021?
@LBjim ya they never do mate best off repainting a new one if you know what i mean
now on the meth's after a nice glass of sherry. I fancy a nice plate of cheese & biscuits- me thinks.
@irena7777777 lol..I'm sure some just don't listen to Bon Jovi only!!!LOL!!
Hmmmmmmmm?.........
Hello mate, LBjim, going through the separation thing with the wife at the moment, I reckon it's the same thing. Don't really mind, though. I'll take my Marillion any day.
