Love the 50th Edition. My mom has an KJV Open Bible that dad gave her in the 1980s. She is in her 80's now. She was bed ridden for a few months in 2024 & I read her Open Bible to her. God was gracious and healed her. She is up and about still reading her Open Bible.
Best review of the 50th anniversary version. Youve given us a good comparison to previous versions rather than what most everyone else does, which is just a page flip. Well done.
I have the 1990 New Open Bible in NASB. 1990. In Rose! I loved this Bible. I now use the Complete Jewish Study Bible, but The Open Bible is so unbiased! Totally recommend.
Actually I recounted; I have nine😁 Open Bibles. Perhaps I need a support group. Seriously, the cyclopedic index is a great Bible study tool and in the old editions, I love the end of verse references. That format is the most logical format to me than center, or outside margin styles. I am excited about the Biblical archeological section as that is a study interest of mine.
Excellent review as always, brother Tim! Long-time watcher, first-time commenter here haha. I am planning on purchasing this for my Uncle, who currently uses a 1970's version of The Open Bible. With all the comments clamoring for a large print edition of this Bible, I'd like to go the other direction and wish for a smaller version. :) I'd imagine it'd be something akin to the size of the Handy-Size Thompson Chain Reference Bible. This came to mind as I was considering the purchase of the MacLaren Thinline you so highly recommended, only to learn it's solely available in large print. (I ended up going with the NKJV Deluxe Thinline Reference instead, and it's fantastic - thank you for that recommendation as well!).
I was hoping this would be the NKJV I invest in this year, buuut… I need more than 1 ribbon, though I know how to after-market add them, but losing the center-column references makes this a hard No for me; I am not a fan of end-of-verse references at all, I believe some get removed and not even listed for lack of space.🥺😔 Thank you for the review, Tim!! Great job looking at historical versions as a reference; I enjoy your videos so much!! 🥰
I used to have a NKJV Open Bible Expanded Edition but gave it to GoodWill. I certainly hope someone in need of a Bible is using it. I do have an Open Bible in the NASB translation that I bought in the 1982. It is a personal size with a cowhide cover.
Thank you for this excellent review. I instantly ordered a copy of this bible although I dislike Christ's words in red letter. Black is beautiful! Greetings from a German brother.
Beautifully laid out Bible that got me excited, but the excitement died at the red letters. Oh thay they would have all black letter texts. A large print wouldn't be a bad idea either.
I have the nkjv new open bible from around 1990 that my dad gave me. I've had it for nearly 35 years. I love how they've gone back to the original style of the end of verse references with the footnotes separate at the bottom of the page. I'm not a fan of the centre column reference style because you have to go digging for the footnotes. I love the blue accents, I'm going to have to buy this one. I hope they release a leather version
One ribbon isn't even enough for a standard size non-study Bible. But, I guess if that was my biggest complaint in what you showed, it's still a winner. Thanks for sharing. I don't have an Open - have considered picking one up just to have - and probably will now.
My main Bible since 1982 is my (perfect sized 8 x 5) Open Bible. Trying to find a less used copy, I now own 8 vintage Open Bibles including my original copy. All but 3 are 1982 or prior NASB versions. I love the Open Bible and hope maybe a 50th anniversary edition would come out in a personal size NASB format-real leather would make it a bonus.
I often see older copies at Half Price books, but they are usually too worn out for me. Cant deal with dirty page edges. I'd like to find a clean copy .
I have an NKJV Open Bible from 1982 or 84, I believe. I was a young Christian back then & young...lol. My Bible had a burgundy bonded leather cover, I think it was. It is so used, pages are loose & binding fell apart, some pages a bit tattered & cover is definitely rough looking. A great Bible I love. I thought about having it rebound, but I think it's too damaged. I would love to find out if it's worth rebinding. At any rate, this 50th anniversary version is pretty nice. Love the blue accents. Not sure I like end of verse references, but not a deal breaker. The font size could bit a bit hard on these aging eyes though. Great review!
@@anickelsworthbiblereviews I have looked everywhere for that 50th edition NKJV Open Bible you are showing here... and though Amazon has this... it does NOT have one with the words "OPEN BIBLE".. embossed on the front cover.. the only ones I have been able to see on the internet.. are plain black covered ones with No lettering on the front of the cover.. SO if you have an ability to contact Thomas Nelson.. could you ask them if the printing on the front cover is only available in certain areas.. or through certain.. distributors...? BTW Christian Book Distributors does Not have ANY of these..
Two things. Why isn't this available in the KJV and only the NKJV? And where can you find an older version with the artwork in it? I have a 1985 hardback version and it doesn't have the artwork. It has the archaeological supplement and the cyclopedia but no artwork. I searched on ebay and in none of the pictures of 1975 editions that were posted did I see any artwork. You maybe have a completely unique edition?
I think each edition is different. It’s pretty wild. The NKJV is Thomas Nelson’s flagship translation, that is generally where they are going to start.
Neat edition. I have an older one that is actually a glued binding. Not a fan of that. I like study bibles that are not huge. Seems like we could get something between a text Bible and a full ESV Study Bible size. This looks like it fits that somewhat.
I retired the Open Bible because of the 2019 edition. The 2012 edition was far superior. This may cause me to reconsider purchasing one when they publish it in the KJV.
@anickelsworthbiblereviews It's not horrible and it's my favorite Study Bible but there were things about the older editions that I missed. Namely the OT quotes in all CAPS the underlined verses, and the end of verse references.
Hey Tim make sure to let us know if there has been any "additions" to the text and or the footnotes especially if any reformed "scholars" put any of their false doctrines in there, thanks.
Love your videos, but it's hard to enjoy them fully as they are pretty much always overexposed. Anything you can do to mitigate for that would be most appreciated!
The new layout looks great and I love the blue accents, but $79.99 list price for a leathersoft with that silly paper liner ($53 at Christianbook). Come ON, Thomas Nelson. Come on. Put a vinyl liner in that thing. Quit with the paper liners. You were putting vinyl in cheaper Bibles in the '80s and '90s. You can do it now. Especially for something this expensive, especially since the cover itself is already synthetic.
I'm so disappointed! With all the other beautiful blue accents, I was really hoping this was going to be a blue letter Bible, instead of a red letter one!
@anickelsworthbiblereviews I'm sorry; I'm unfamiliar: do you mean there's a thin line version of the Open Bible which uses blue letters for the words of Christ instead of red?
@@CatholicDefender911 It's not incomplete. It has all the inspired books. Please take your promotion of the unbiblical teachings of Catholicism elsewhere. Turn to Christ and Scripture, alone.
For a bible that is 50 years old, they should have done a large print edition for all the older people that have been using it for years.
Ha ha! Maybe it’s coming
And a genuine leather version
Exactly!

Wow! That’s amazing!
In case Thomas Nelson is paying attention, I also throw in my vote for a large print! :)
Yes large print. I hope they are listening!
Agree & how about words of Christ in blue to go w/the blue accents...that would be awesome.
I have a 1983 NKJV genuine leather edition with sewn binding. It’s been on my shelf for years. Still new. This video makes me want to start using it.
same here, I use mine for reference occasionally but i keep it in mint condition

Massive Topical Index
That would make it very easy to have verses ready to go.
This is my favorite reference/study Bible. I'm excited about getting one, when finances allow.
Very nice. Thank you for sharing. I really like how it just hangs in the hand.
Great review!! This is slick! The return of the End of verse references is awesome!
Thank you, I like it enough to purchase it if the font was larger.
Thank you for your review. I liked it so much went and bought one.
Thanks again for a great review. I've always loved the open bible and now I am thinking about updating to this one. Thanks again brother
My 1st Study Bible was a NKJV Open Bible. I bought one for Wifey too.
A beautiful addition!

Very nice Study Bible
Love it. Looks awesome
I bought an open Bible last year. I wish I had waited for this.
Me too, but I still think I will get this 50th anniversary edition
@ I’d like to but I can’t afford it at least not till 2026/2027
I want one, especially since I've never had an Open Bible yet. By God's providence, I guess this is the perfect time to acquire one!

Its NKJV and improved. I like three or four ribbons. Otherwise, it looks like I will upgrade from my late 1970s edition. I love biblical archaeology!
....interesting....
....possible future leather?
Maybe.
Some great improvements. More like the original. But it's hard to beat the previous edition with its full translator notes.
Do you like The Open Bible or Thompson Chain Reference Bible more and why?
TCR because I prefer a referencing system over a topical one.
Also do you think they will have this in Kjv and black genuine leather? Thank you for your feedback and support. Lord bless you all
KJV I’d say is a good possibility. Not sure on the leather.

Almost got this last year but decided against it. Might have to get this one now, really like that new layout.
When will this Bible be releasing?
You can order it now.
cool. which translations will it be in?
It has not been disclosed. So far just NKJV.
What seminary school did you go to?
Global University’s division of the Berean School of the Bible. Along with 30 years of ministry study and experience.

Why is it called "Open"?
Because its purpose is to get you to open your bible.

Does it finally include the books Luther removed?
You know the answer to that question, and I think you also know the inaccuracy of your question as well.
Unfortunately, it appears I do know the answer. However, an incomplete Bible is of no use.
LOL!
