I have watched this channel off and on for years, I only wish I was young enough, and you had the time to do the engine and transmission in my 84 FXRT. Plus I live in Indiana.
Tatro is old school like me!
That’s what gasket maker is for!
I had a 53 panhead, that a cylinder exploded, being aftermarket. The piston came down and blew the cases to pieces. A man who welded for Nasa, put them back together but, they got spider web cracking that he chased for a long time and could not fix, even with heating the cases before welding. I was reading a magazine and came across Cryo tempering for racing parts and airplane engines. I got the cases cry tempered, and a guy off the street welded them up beautifully. After welding I got them cry tempered again to relieve all stress from the welding, and had the flat surfaces machined. I just sold that 53, and am now making a 59, 98 inch stroker. I built these cases up to handle the sidewinder jugs, and had them cryo'd also. I wont build a old sand cast engine now, without cryo tempering them because it makes the aluminum much stronger, and relieves all stresses if they have seen welding.
yes it does help. its just comes down to how much do you want to spend. coatings do wonders too.

@@TatroMachine powder coated the jugs but was told that holds in the heat, do you have any knowledge on this? On the 53, i sanded the coating off the fins and sprayed them with high heat paint, but the 59 is still powder coated. Would appreciate some direction.
@@TatroMachine also, the cryo cost $49.00,
in Coatsville Pa. where they used to do big steel work, but now it's just a small operation.
A fixture that levels from the crank bearing race and holds the surface at 90° from the crank instead of trying to get a square and flat surface referenced from an unlevel and possibly out of square surface
76 years old, no idea of how many rebuilds and heat cycles it's been through, and aluminum not really that bad but yea it's off some. Pretty common on something that old especially an old HD.
yes, and who makes that tooling. no one.

these are aftermarket case that are made wrong. at 200 miles, they are not worn this way.

@@TatroMachine I am sure you could, and make good use to it
