Fun fact:
Those fireworks weren't planned, they just happen every time Leonardo DiCaprio introduces himself
So if he says hi in a sealed environment, do the fireworks go off and destroy the building?
@@veltzon4322 yes
It’s glad to see people still watch this iconic scene that is done just so exceptionally well.
@@veltzon4322 di caprio uses his mind powers to build the building he destroyed back up in mere seconds

Just imagine if whoever was cast as Gatsby was kept a secret?
What a moment this would be.
It really should have been. Good film or not they would have earned massive at the box office!
@@vajidalishah3595 the opposite, di capirio is a big name which will obviously get alot of people tuning in to watch him, having him kept as a secret wouldnt have made the movie a hit, rather the opposite

Good marketing idea!!! Nice!

Yeah but Gatsby is the one who isn’t really honest. He never seemed to make an honest bond with anyone.
@@crustykeycap5670 Build a life on lies and that's what happens
He is by far one of the most interesting characters ever written, since Nick knows so little about him, the audience knows so little about him. Yet we know just enough to make educated speculations and guesses about his character.
I agree! When working his way up to East egg, everyone dreams to be like Gatsby and obtain his riches, but they truly don’t understand who he really is. Gatsby does everything to work his way up to Daisy’s heart, but in the end gets betrayed by Daisy once again. This indicates the carelessness of people from East egg and how they let money control their lives. We also see how Gatsby achieves the so called “American Dream”, but ultimately fails in reaching his only dream which was being with Daisy and reliving what they had in the past.
Overall, this novel is just a masterpiece because everything written from that time period is still relevant in today’s modern society.
@@bigj1905 well in my opinion just because the character isn’t revealed doesn’t make he’s interesting but it is a cool mystery.
Leonardo DiCaprio fit this character very well, he’s the face of gatsby.
Seth Leger he does! 🏴
The scene, of him turning and delivering the drink was very beautiful, because in the book he is described with the grandeur that the fireworks and the music put in the scene.
I remember thinking he'd be the perfect Gatsby the first time I read the book but he was too young then. He's perfect.
Too bad they messed up the rest of the movie....
I don't know, it's still Robert Redford for me
I cannot get enough of how he introduced himself like that.
its so suave and the way the music rises until his introduction, breathtaking

Bully Maguire: (getting jealous ) I wanna put some dirt in your eye
If you read the book, it's sort of how it happened. I remember having to read this part 4-5 times in the novel. It was smooth how Gatsby just showed up because you don't even notice it until he says "I'm Gatsby"
I thought I was the only one… 😅😂

Paul Rudd was cast as Nick too in some version of Gatsby? Have you seen tha?
And Tobey Maguire is an actor who is very good at projecting wonder and awe. Very good casting.

They couldn’t have introduced Gatsby with more visual grandeur in this movie. So wonderful.
And the perfect song choice too!
1:12 the moment nick fell in love with gatsby
Truth lol
Plus what made the friendship between Nick and Jay work, in my opinion, was the fact that Tobey Maguire is friends with Leo Dicaprio in real life.
Poor tobey. He never gets to get a drink from the tray
-wasn't able to deliver pizza on time
-wasn't able to see the damn door get fixed.

As a musician, I listen intently to scores in moves. The music starting at 0:48 is some of the best I’ve heard. Especially with Rhapsody in Blue as Gatsby’s introduction

@@SamuelMartinez-bt9mr Yeah the buildup as well is Rhapsody in Blue
The buildup is rhapsody in blue, by Gershwin!
Lol. In the beginning of the movie they were using too much dubstep and rap and to me it was tacky with the grand ball type of setting. Great movie once you get past that

The actors they got for Nick and Gatsby are some of the best castings I've seen.
Tobey and Leo are great actors man.
Leo and Tobey have been best friends since they were 12 years old.

Sort of touching how Gatsby appears when Nick is told that life favors the rich. Gatsby comes to Nick's rescue because he possibly sees a younger poorer version of himself

I watched this film in my American Literature class after we read the book, and while I didn’t think much of the book, when I heard that we were watching this version with DiCaprio, I was excited, and I was even more hyped when we started watching and I saw that Nick Carraway was Tobey Maguire

1:05 the famous gif
I just watched this movie, and I absolutely loved it. All the actors did a fantastic job and Leo’s entrance was iconic. A 10/10, high recommendation!
Will Tobey ever get served without it being taken away?
Gatsby gave him a drink. 🙂
I think it’s probably a visual motif for his alcoholism. He is with Gatsby and the drinks are taken away from him because Gatsby brought Nick happiness. Nick is drunk when he is with Tom and Myrtle. Tom, Myrtle, Daisy and Jordan all symbolize decay and materialistic tendencies that drive Nick to alcohol to cope with the reality of society.
1:05
When your buddy and you got a girl for the party next night.
1:01 That moment when Leo finally won an Oscar for Best Actor
One of the rare, elusive times that visuals can truly, perfectly outdo anything that words in a book can do.
The fireworks, the grin, the suit, the drink, all the glamourous high life that Jay Gatsby represents. In one single frame you get everything you need to know about this character...only to understand that he's also none of it in the next.
The hopes and dreams of America, the riches and splendor in every footstep of his mansion. Everything he's built for himself is what the American Dream is. A fashionable, successful charming man with a mansion, countless friends, and more money than he can possibly spend in a lifetime. He's what everyone dreams to be, and perhaps it is all the more ironic that all of it matters little to Gatsby himself in the face of the woman he loved, and the lives ruined in the course of the story.
Perhaps the dream is all that it is, a dream, and ought not be chased so fervently.
“It eluded us then, but that’s no matter-tomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms farther. . . . And then one fine morning-
So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.”
The green light.
