  • If you didn't know already, I am a MAJOR SCIENCE GEEK! Especially biology. So why it took me 2.5 years to finally get to Biomuseo, I have no idea!! If you love science, love biology and biodiversity, love learning new things, and love Panama you must go here! I am very picky and judgmental when it comes to science museums (probably because I have a science degree and teach science!)- but let me tell you I was blown away! This museum is so fantastically done. I was just in awe! I told Brian I wanted him to build me an exact replica of the whole place so I could just live in it! And if you have kids, this place is a must-see. So much hands on stuff. I seriously can't speak highly enough of Biomuseo! And it's on the Amador Causeway in Panama City, so you can pair it with a trip to the Smithsonian Punta Culebra field station, an awesome lunch/dinner, or just stroll or rent a bike on the causeway and watch the ships in the canal! Great place, great day, 10 stars!! Check out their website for current exhibits: biomuseo.org/en/

I'll be visiting the Bio Museo again (but only after the half-term holidays!). There is nice garden walk outside, which doesn't get too busy and you can usually see iguana and even chachalacas in the trees, and you can access the small cafe in the museum from the outside while taking a walk down the Canal side of the Causeway, which is nicer than the main road. You should visit Summit Gardens, which is a lovely walk with interesting trees etc (although some of the animals' enclosures need upgrading and enlarging) - although the caiman that seemed to have wandered into a pool in the Gardens seems to have departed or been removed (the pool is where my wife remembers Oncho, the one-eyed rescued crocodile used to live when she was young). On quiet days what is good that often see wild animals - agouti and coati especially - that have just wandered in (as if to tease those in the enclosures).
