Sad to see the "Civic" Arena go. Growing up in Pgh. and always seeing that shining dome made the city a special place for me. I realize that its technology aged out but it will certainly not be forgotten. Great time lapse production!

Yes, it is hard to watch Mellon Area being demolished as I went to a lot of hockey and indoor soccer games there while growing-up in the Pittsburgh area.

I know some people wanted to save mellon arena but the arena was just too old and costly to save, besides that's what consol arena was built for as a replacement. And as much as I will always have fond memoires of mellon arena, consol energy center was very much needed.

At least they could have made the new place look nice. Given it a little style!

@@charleshein4477 The squares are trying to take over again, because "angles." Then in time everyone will become bored with the squared design, then go back to circles; or a hybrid design The ppg paints arena will become a parking lot for the next arena.

thanx for the video, love the title too because it's really what happened, as soon as the Consol Energy Center started to rise from the ground, Mellon Arena was set to disappear. Man you got an awesome view of that event.

Great video! I'm from NE Ohio, watched Pens games on channel 53 and KBL as a kid. Been to Civic Arena twice, once for a concert in '96 and a Pens-Devils game in 07 0r 08. Loved that place and wished that something was left behind like they had done for the old Atlanta-Fulton County Stadium where the parking lot was an outline of the old stadium complete with bases and home plate.

My dad remembers seeing Michael Jackson’s Bad Tour at the Civic Arena in September 1988 when he was 19 and he loved it and he remembers the crowd and him going wild

Too bad they didn't keep the iconic shell and just convert the interior of the old Barn into a cool community/entertainment center with a couple of hockey rinks, a pool/splash park, a small theatre/concert hall, and a VR playroom.
