Honestly, I feel so bad for Elisabeth, the owner of the house. Often I don't realise that behind these messy houses created by the renter, are also those who rented it out to them. Her reaction is so understandable. If I would put myself in her shoes, I would be angry and too stunned for words too. Especially with how unconsidered Sophie is an clueless to why Elisabeth would react badly to the state of the house. I can bring up a lot of sympathy for the people who created the mess. I understand how their life can turn like that (mine also almost did at one point), but my heart really breaks for Elisabeth.
I barely see anyone talking about her, but I really feel for her. It was the house she built with her late husband... and a couple trashing it and using the excuse like "it was already not in perfect condition", I can imagine how it not only makes her angry, but fuel her grief. Everything is destroyed in that house, walls, cupboards, flooring, bathroom, everything... it wil cost her so much money to remodel it again. Such a sad story.
I truly hope the couple gets the help they need for their hoarding problems, because if they don't, after this, they will do this again 100% for sure. I even think the other house also looks like this... these 2 women are absolutely hoarders and need help for their major mental illnesses and ocd. Just cleaning their home is not gonna help in the long run. Not even for a week...
But I also hope Elisabeth also get the help she need, processing this experience. I bet it is traumatizing to find your house you built with your lare husband in a state like this. It is such a bad and sad situation

Yes, I also feel for Elisabeth, especially since she's probably elderly, or close to it, given she'd have been an adult when it was built by her and her husband, then was lived in for 30 years, her husband passing, etc. so she would no longer have the physical abilities, energy and support, and possibly finances, she would have had when the house was first build.
I can't even imagine the grief and anger she must be feeling to have something that would obviously have meant so much to her be treated so badly.

I feel very bad for Elisabeth. But also for Sofie. Anyone who let's this happen and who claims she didn't trash the place has serious mental health issues. It's very common for people who suffer like that to not be in touch with reality. We don't have to pick sides, it's just super sad for everyone involved and I hope they will all get the help they need, beyond the practical work of tackling this mess that Auri already did for them.

@@sabrinamaurer2543 True about the yard but I'm wondering if she had wanted/tried to inspect the house earlier, after seeing the yard, and was denied entrance.

Without knowing the entire back story we can only assume.

I am a retired Psychiatric Nurse and my thoughts are; when someone's home is like this, it is a reflection of their state of mind, the chaos that is taking place, maybe depression, trauma, mental illness, fear or some other debilitation. It makes me sad right away because I can see the hurt or loss that someone is having here. The help that you provide is priceless and part of a recovery process. After working several hours in more physical pain then most people feel in a week while having no energy cleaning is not a top priority. I understand what you’re saying, but we have to remember on the hoarders shows. They are dealing with family who have lived with these hoarders for years and we don’t know how compassionate those people have been for how long before they could not take it anymore. Secondly, those people did not get the opportunity to just come in and clean. They’re actually working with the hoarders to keep them from doing this again therefore that’s going to require some uncomfortable conversations and unfortunately seem a little uncomfortable for the hoarders.
I don’t think it’s a fair comparison as with Auri gets to come in and just clean she does not necessarily deal with a psychological component. And people are as nice as they can be but the people who are not hoarders, but are friends and family also are uncomfortable with trying to help when they have to deal with the hoarder and their justifications without professional help to explain what’s mentally going on.
      Compassion for all. ❤

Throw in having to work to live and higher living costs for doctors and medicine as well as everything being more difficult for them and having less total energy and you end up exhausted before you get home and have no energy to clean. I saw a wheelchair which likely means at least one of them is disabled. Auri also mentioned they have little to no friends meaning no help and likely even lower mental health. Chronic/Mental disabled people unfortunately get really screwed with how our society is set up. In addition it seems the girlfriend recently went through a big loss and hoarding is a coping strategy. Not like this, thankfully, but I've always had a hard time letting items go. But now I have to tidy and clean regularly to keep up with my 2-year old (who deserves a clean and safe home), I was finding it very stressful and unenjoyable but these videos have shown me that there is real satisfaction to be found in cleaning. Hoarding after a traumatic death is very common. This story I’ve heard many times: a loved one dies, a grief stricken family member inherits all their stuff, and everything turns into a reminder. Every piece of trash could be the last thing your loved one touched. It’s a really severe and unique form of depression and mourning. And it destroys so many relationships with others, your ability to get a home (bad tenant history!), keep a job, clean yourself, and stay healthy. I really hope this cleaning can open the flood gates for Sophie’s gf and she realizes it’s time to make an adjustment and to re-establish her connection to reality. Hoarding like this can come with so much denial, lashing out, defensiveness….it is so hard for people in this state of mind to come to terms with what they have done. Many never escape.

Hoarding is a type of OCD and can take many forms. In any form, it can be a serious mental health illness. Besides being distressing by definition, it’s a type of anxiety that easily leads to isolation, self-harm, substance abuse, and suicide. Not to mention the adverse health reactions to dust and mold and danger of being crushed or burned in the hoard.
Normally, I would’ve let this comment slide because it’s a hope for treatment without judgement. In this case, I feel like it’s important to acknowledge that OCD hoarding is, by itself, a severe mental illness and should be treated as such.

They are not allowed to enter the home when the tenant doesn't allow it, dosen't matter if they have a good reason or not.
It could be the same for them as well.
Also it was mentioned that the husband of the landlord died so the landlord could be of higher age and didn't have the strengh.

Normally I'm just happy for the people who get their house cleaned, but this one showed nothing else but careless attitude and not appreciating the house itself (by the tenant(s)). All this remind me of someone I know, who just doesn't appreciate any of their things. Hence everything in their house is broken, dirty and ..just awful in general. The rat infestation needs a exterminator. Probably, re-wiring and water pipes need to be fixed. Those damages are expensive, and not a suitable living environment for new renters. The two hoarder ladies are moving out regardless of what they've already done. The girlfriend has an apartment that will be trashed instead, be concerned for the apartment owner. That mess looks like years of hoarding, depression, and denial. I hope the people that cleaned this house go to the doctor after this. I hope Sofie and girlfriend get therapy and cleaning help at a new apartment. It's very kind, but very dangerous to clean up. We usually use teams of people here in the US to clean up hoarders houses because there’s so much work! They usually have to put dumpsters out in the driveway (like you had to), to put all of the trash in. I’m glad to see you got some help. When dealing with areas that have lots of mold or rodent droppings, you need to wear masks all the time. I’ve noticed that sometimes you wear them when you start out, but then they seem to disappear as you clean. You will really regret inhaling all of this toxic stuff in 20 or 30 years, and some of it can make you sick now. My soul hurts to see what you find under the beds and armchairs.😱 The bathroom and the kitchen are always my priorities, I disinfect every day, I can't bear to see a small stain in the toilet, I can't do my physiological needs if it's not super clean. I must say that I am an older lady with motor difficulties, but I do my best.

As much as I hate to agree with you...yeah. Yeah I hope so too. This isn't just some faceless company landlord renting out one of a million identical apartments. This is the home that she shared with her husband. That she raised her children in. Seeing it get to this state must be so incredibly heartbreaking.
Hoarding is not a rational disease. It will consume every part of the victim's life until there's nothing left. Hoarding is so unbelievably complicated--- whether it's a response to a traumatic event, a natural progression of the side effects of other physical or mental health problems, or all of the above, it's a disease that is insidiously good at keeping itself alive. Once somebody is infected, it can take a lifetime to heal-- and it is a FIGHT, every step of the way.
That being said, adults are, at the end of the day, responsible for their actions-- even if the cause of their actions is not entirely in their control. I truly hope that the landlord's pain and suffering wakes Sophie and the gf up. That they realize the harm they have done, and choose to not hurt anyone else-- let alone themselves!-- this way ever again. That they get the treatment necessary to make this happen.

they'll likely end up homeless if they go to court. At least one maybe both of them are disabled. Disability is expensive, chances are they made sure to pay rent on time but likely had to skip out on necessary medicine or mental health care because that's how being disabled is most of the time. Go be in excruciating pain all day, have 0 energy and then go work for the same amount of time as everyone else with fewer job opportunities while having a significantly higher cost of living

I hope the landlady Elisabeth appreciatesd all the hard work Auri and her cousin did to get the house somewhat back to its original state. She should have checked her house a lot sooner to see how Sophie and her girlfriend degraded it. If she had to call animal protection when they got pets, major red flag. Even the best cleaner should only tackle such a place in a hazmat suit, mask, gloves and with the windows open. This was certainly spooky. Happy Halloween. 🎃

Depending on where you live, the landlord may not be entitled to inspections - at all! In Germany here, my landlords have not been inside my apartment for the past 22 years (since I received the keys in December 1999), because the law says "only with the consent of the tenant" and they did not have any reason to visit 🤷🏻‍♀️ Once a year they send in a company for a small 20-minute maintenance (as prescribed by law) merely to check and clean the chimney and smoke detectors, but these companies only do what they are told to do and don't report back about the general state of the apartment. Apartments mostly come unfurnished: beyond ceiling, walls, floor, bathtub, sink and toilet, nothing in my apartment belongs to my landlord, and after 20 years, the bathroom installations would be a write-off anyway. However, if I ever give notice that I am planning to move out, they will send somebody to inspect and let me know which renovations or repairs I need to do (like painting the walls white, removing tiles I had put on the kitchen wall, or removing a wooden floor I put in). If there is any major damage, they will deduct it from my deposit and let me only have what's left after some professional fixed the place. In Germany, you usually have to leave the place in a state that it's ready for a new tenant immediately (= the state you got it in). However, it's necessary to obtain written permission beforehand if one wants to put in any permanent installations. For example, I tore out and remodeled the complete bathroom some years years ago and they even contributed to the cost (after I sent some photos) because I "upgraded" the apartment ...

I found this channel recently, and have learnt not to judge people by messy apartment, we don’t know the story behind it. My son had depression 2 years ago, he would hide in his room most of time and eating snacks, lots of empty chips bags and candies jars. I tidy up his room once a week, not saying any word of his room, only ask him to take care of himself. I hope my love can give him the strength to walk out his depression.

@@CarbonFibreHeart You can. I did it twice. Sports usually helps immensly. Hiding in his room basically is social anxiety, probably mixed with depression. I also don't go out anymore, because I don't want to see my boomer neighbours who called the police, because I ONCE heard music in middle of the night and now are commenting all the time when they see me in a rudely manner. They are totally oblivious to the fact, that it's probably not wise to anger a person constantly who NEVER goes out of his flat. These kind of people then are shocked when something happens and you read it in the newspaper. 🙄
Good for them I have another, better solution and it's to buy a house in another country. They think I'm some kind of depressed alcoholic or something who lives on social security, but I'm literally a Crypto multimillionaire. Like you see, this comes at a cost...

On point! It's easy to be clouded by anger, and to not use anger productively. If people hate this situation for example, more advocacy for therapy, understanding what causes hoarding and how to treat it etc, /that/ is what will help make this less present in the world, not just pretending people actually prefer to live like this with a sound mind.
