- I know it has been a while, gang! Much more content coming soon. In this video the Dude discusses how to setup a bioactive Amazon Tree boa terrarium. After being established this terrarium will become fully self sustainable. Each snake is CB and they are a pair from unrelated parents. This terrarium is seeded with the Dude's Bioshot, springtails, isopods, earwigs, millipedes and more! Utilizing my Terra Firma it will keep the humidity right where it should be while maintaining great husbandry for these snakes. They are eating F/T chicks right now and are very feisty. I hope you all enjoy the video and there is much more coming!

It’s so kick-ass that you’re working with this species! 😍 At first I wondered why you were setting up a more terrestrial oriented tank for them but I thought to myself, ‘Lemme see if he addresses it in the video before I get all bent out of shape’ 😎😏 And lo and behold, you DID address it!! Awesome video, thank you for making it!
*FOR THOSE WONDERING WHY HE HAS ARBOREAL SNAKES IN A SOMEWHAT LOW TANK, PLEASE ACTUALLY PAY ATTENTION TO* 03:15
Thank you so much for the support!
10:21 - Sorry for the audio mixup - I missed it!
I love the fact that you have a passion for animals and you also support the second amendment.
Love your stuff me and my brother own cold blooded reptiles in Las Vegas we’re your number one saying store in the valley thanks for keeping us loaded
That is awesome! Thank you!
I would love to see a bioactive terrarium for Green Tree Pythons.
Yes please.
Also watching this because I have a GTP and want to go bioactive - do you think it would be significantly different for a GTP?
i know Im quite randomly asking but does anybody know of a good website to stream newly released tv shows online ?
16:43 Dieffenbachia ( pronounced deefenbakia) is considered mild toxic as it contains oxalate acid
this acid is found in the plant juice in stems and leaves
Also grows like absolute crazy it will have to be removed.
You are correct, I would not recommend this plant to any herbivore, omnivore. But when dealing with snakes or lizards that will not eat vegetation etc you will not have issues - It is only an irritant if ingested. You can find the info here: www.thetortoisetable.org.uk/plant-database/viewplants/?plant=846&c=5#.XaXPXS2ZOqc
yippee ! I didn’t know millipedes could be an additional cleanup crew !, great video and great vivarium!
Thank you Bob! You're the man!
You should do a collab with SerpaDesign, that would be amazing! Keep up the great work Josh 🤘🏼🤙🏼
That would be amazing.
Joshua Knoebel. Right!!!
I am going to be hosting multiple opinion leaders on my channel next year. Ill consider it and reach out to him.
I normally set up the largest piece of wood first & make sure anything I stack is secure. But love the easy set up. Oh & on animal care, my carpet python bit me over x50 the 1st month (including 2 weeks of no handling) then started pooping when that didn't work. I stopped taking him out until the 3rd day after food & wouldn't put him up after he craps. Otherwise it trains them that pooping = no humans. Which is what they want. Have fun with this species!
Cryptanthus and pineapple are an exception to that bromeliad rule though 👍
Your an pretty good talker speaker, nice vid
This looks good. A update every other week would be awesome !
Thank you, ill be sure to try and do that.
so cool
Best tank build channel on RUclips! Hands down
Thank you for the kind words.
25:49 THIS DUDE IS PACKING HEAT LOL
Thats my bad.
The Bio Dude Josh Halter respect bro ✊
The Bio Dude Josh Halter nah man embrace that right while you have it ✊
Aren’t we all?
Would very much like to see you set up a Macropanesthia rhinoceros bioactive enclosure. Or maybe even a Hisser one. Love the enthusiasm and content. Do you ever use alphitobius diaperinus in bioactive setups?
Great to see you working with these snakes. They are definitely on my list. I would have thought to go 36 tall for these guys (same for emeralds and chondros) just so they have the option to explore more.
What are your thoughts on bioactive set ups for Emeralds and Chondros? I know if I were to ask the chondro facebook groups I'd get chewed up and spat out just for asking that. But I like gathering as much info as I can before getting the animal.
I am actually in the process of doing bio for both of them. Once I am ready I will be doing a video and hosting opinion leaders on the matter for easy clarification : )
@@TheBioDudeJoshHalter Alright! Definitely excited for this! Thank you for making all these videos by the way.
@@natedrawsthings But if you can give them a 36" height go for it! The only reason I did not go higher with these guys is because we tried and they chose to stay closer to the ground.
@@TheBioDudeJoshHalter Whatever works for them I guess. I hope we'll get updates on these guys down the road.
The Bio Dude Josh Halter My guess is that they stayed closer to the ground in a taller enclosure because of the constant bright lights, or possibly to get away from the heat lamp. They are mostly shaded or in filtered light in their natural environment.
Ayyyeee new to Houston let’s be friends! We can nerd out on the herps!
Yes so the green tree boas like to move side to side on the branches so they feel safe and still protected, way better than having to get off one branch up to another and feel unprotected.
He is back!!!
i can not wait to get the bearded dragon bio kit from you!
Kiera Blue happy customer here. You’re going to love it. It’s so easy to maintain and it never smells. I love it!
No drainage layer is needed? What is your misting process for ATBs?
Good to have you back!
Josh "Options" Halter back at it again.
What does the "options" mean?
@@TheBioDudeJoshHalter It means you give your animals a lot of options, Josh.
@@SlyKuromori Awesome. I wasn't sure its hard to tell context in text : ) lol - options are always super important!
Love the set up! Don't know if you have time to answer, but would do use the same enclosure size for an emerald or the large exo?
Emerald Tree Boa? Id rock a 36 x 18 x 36 for those dudes
Did u get a taller cage ? Im thinking of buying one just not sure if to get a tall cage or long cage
My Crested Gecko is doing great with your Crested gecko kit in a Zoo Med 12X12x18 tank. Good to see you doing more vids after a few months.
Thank you for your business and support
Hi Josh,
I was wondering if you would ever do a terrarium build for a Red Tail Boa?
I would love to!!! It is hard with the DIMs they need - I hope to have one soon. If you want a kit for one, just email us and we can hook you up with a custom.
The Bio Dude Josh Halter I would definitely be interested. My baby female is growing like a weed and I need to get a permanent solution for her soon.
When will the fern logs be available? They already look super cool
We have some right now at thebiodude.com - I only have a few left but they will be available again soon after they run out!
Hey , My Amazon red tree boa is hanging out on the floor of his tank coiled up. It’s 3 AM is lights off for the day it’s not cold should I be concerned?
Would love to see an update on how this worked out..
Still going just fine! been super busy to the update videos have been delayed. - The Dudes team
I have 2 Amazon Tree Boas and would like to purchase a kit for the ATB
Hey Dennis! At this time the premade kits are sold out online, however please email customercare@thebiodude.com And the team can get you set up with a kit and a quote! Hope this helps!
that is so cool how much times do you have to clean it
Ill keep you guys in the loop but I have not had to do anything yet.
I am looking to build a terrarium for about 2-4 bearded dragons. Its going to be 8’ long, 20” wide and 30” tall.
Be careful keeping them together. They do not do well and should be kept alone. Agamids in general are very aggressive and will quickly bully, kill, outcompete others.
Any issues with feeding since you have two in the same enclosure? I.E- one trying to get the other’s food or attacking the other ATB?
Hey there! Our staff pays close attention to their stress levels, eating cycles and shedding cycles as well as overall activity to ensure they are happy and healthy. We do recommend Only experienced keepers should try to keep snakes together that are not breeding. No issues with this pair! Hope this helps, The Dude Abides!
You should add a video on how to put drainage layer properly
Ill be doing a whole video on different DL soon.
@@TheBioDudeJoshHalter hell ya bro good looking I'll be buying my first set from you, I like the way you do stuff. I support bio dude.
Can you pls do bigger viverium tutorial. Good video
I need a Brazilian rainbow boa video
If we have a client that wants us to do a build for them, we can turn it into a video. Otherwise our customer care team would be happy to walk you through a build if you need help. Feel free to reach out to us: CustomerCare@theBioDude.com
Tank looks good, my problem with it is that it's for arboreal species...l would think that the enclosure isn't tall enough.
Is it common and safe to have little tan/reddish mites in the spring-tail container? I drove down and bought some last week and wasn't until I added them to the tank when I noticed them crawling on the charcoal. I pulled two of them out but don't know if others are in the tank now. I do see some in the other container I bought to cultivate chilling on top of the charcoal.
Do you offer replacements bulbs for the solar glow, or do we need to get the entire product (bulb with the fixture again)?
My husband wants a boa so he would be interested in this. Our beardys already love their bioactive setup, but, Dude, will you ever do any bioactive stuff for aquatic reptiles? It's really difficult to get an ideal setup for aquatic turtles(particularly larger ones like sliders) without being a maverick at building things or ordering a custom job. And you need insane filtration for them. There must be a better way.
I want to build a bioactive terrarium for my leopard gecko but I'm worried about impaction from him trying to eat the clean up crew or the dirt from his shed skin, what is your experience from this? I know leopard gecko impaction is a big issue
Lol a ball python would love this set up
What is the difference between the solar grow and glow and grow does the solar grow provide uvb?
I know you do not ship worldwide, but is it an option you are willing to consider in the future ? I would love to test some of your products but I live in France. :)
Any word on the beardie clean up crew to be shipped to NY. Been sold out on the website for months and everytime the season you say comes along. You give me another one.
JustBlaze1594 we had them up last week - shipped over 120 boxes.
I’ll be posting more beginning of October but we sell out very quickly.
in a 12x12x18 tall what level of the tank of your temperature and humidity gauge should be at??
When will you get more bearded dragon clean up crew
Have you done a video on setting up a bio active terrarium for Blood Pythons yet?
I wish! I LOVE BLOODS! a good friend of mine got chased across the room about 9 years ago from his super aggressive female....Since then Ive been hooked. I hope to some day!
Can you show how to make bio active terrarium for asian water monitor
Where can one purchase those 75 gallon tetra fauna’s? Are they available wholesale as well?
I offer them locally. They don't fit on a standard pallet so shipping is more than the cost of the tank itself. If you go to Tetra Faunas website you can find their distributors. If you are in Houston you can get them from me.
If I add the bioshot to my substrate, do I need to also add springtails?
It wouldn’t hurt
Who makes those 75 gallon enclosures? Do you ship them?
Tetra Fauna 75 gallon deluxe. I do not ship them as it would be over $300+_ alone to ship them.
Ok this has nothing to do with boas but u had a question that I can’t find an answer for. Can I use a Terra Sahara substrate for my week and a half old leopard gecko
*I
I would recommend going bio once they reach out 3 months and put on some size.
Please do one for a BCC Boa...🙏🙏
What kind od plants you put inside?
Nice setup I like it. Good job.
The yellow atb is a normal phase and the dark one is the Halloween phase. The "double diamond" pattern is Halloween. Red, yellow, orange and garden are normal phase.
Can you do a build for your gargoyle gecko set up? Thanks!
i see the bio dude stays strapped up while he builds his vivs 🔫
George Arden I’m sorry about that...
Gotta keep me and my people safe...it’s my property after all ;)
The Bio Dude Josh Halter No need to apologize, respect
I didn’t like bc it would put the likes at 666
I wish you'd get a microphone. Your voice volume goes way up and down depending on how far the camera is.
I was using a mic for this video - I am working on upgrading all my YT equipment!
@@TheBioDudeJoshHalter Oh I see that now. Your volume is consistent now but it's still hard to hear you. Although not bad, you still have that "in the background" sound. Anyway I like your stuff.
Halloween phase? Lol
I’ve read that uvb can negatively affect atb’s eyes
That is any animal. Too much UVB causes damage to our eyes too.
Why is that frog always sitting in the same place??🤣
That is his spot!
Nice setup, but unfortunately it’s to small for even one of the snakes 😢
Surely an arboreal snake needs an arboreal enclosure with lots of climbing material.
U have not given thm tht.
Totally agree! This is nowhere near tall enough.
I support your channel, but having set up vivariums for some time, I should think you would have learned to at least separate the plant's roots a little.
I always take the species of the plants and their growing tendencies into consideration - I am unsure what you mean? As long as there is enough depth/space to prevent competition (depending on size of the plant) they do okay. Appreciate that support!
In that case, keep up the good work
its entirely possible youve fixed this since 2019 but holy god damn, get a lavalier mic!
why did you ghost GoHerping
Like..
I mean, the Enclosure are very very Good but he is always so aggressiv and kind a stressed.. 😶
This is an arboreal snake and this enclosure is nowhere near tall enough.
