  • James and Louise present the second programme about the Zoo and the animals. The story of Albert and The Lion features in this episode too. Recorded here in Summer Term 1983. Continuity includes BBC1 Clock, Follows Shortly Slide with Music and BBC Schools Dots Countdown Clock. Then a rare continuity film about schools programmes moving to BBC2 from Autumn Term 1983. From my own personal collection of N1700 video tapes. Uploaded purely for educational purposes only.

BBC schools programmes were finishing that week of June, and with an intermittent schedule because of sport and one or two other bits the dots countdown on this recording surely must have been one of the last few before they disappeared forever.

What was that at the start of the clip - about an engineering test transmission? I thought they were on BBC2 at that time? Strange how the music over the clock stopped, announcer did his bit, and then different music for the Watch slide.

I'm crushed, I thought in 1983 life was so much more sophisticated and a bit more wordly wise about programming 😐 Nope.
I was 15, I obviously wasn't watching programmes like this by now but it has an air of naivety about it that I thought didn't exist by the 80s even in childrens programmes.
Childrens learning has more emphasis on precise subject matter now and not a broad general knowledge.
I think they need more naivety in their lives again.
