Glenn, seriously, congratulations on getting directly involved in the development of a Revv pedal! I mean what an honor! This pedal 100% has the kind of sound I've been looking for, and as a long time fan, I'm now also honored to say that I immediately went ahead and purchased the Glenn Fricker Northern Mauler pedal. Sick stuff, man. Thank you for doing what you do, and again, congratulations.
Interesting, in the solo (8:49) of the mix I heard the lead tones of Ride The Lightning. I normally don’t like that over the top chainsaw sound on its own but man this pedal sounds fantastic in a mix. What’s cool is you can blend the two tones or just use the modern one when playing. Then record with both. Now, if only it has a Cockblocker in it lol.
I just received my pedal from Sweetwater, this pedal sounds soooo amazing! It didnt even take much dialing in to get the tone I’ve been chasing after for so long. I’m currently running it through a 2x12 Boss Katana Mk.1 amp, I’m just speechless at how amazing my amp sounds. Great pedal!!! 🤘🏼😎🤘🏼
Pretty impressive! Revv is probably one of the best modern Metal companies overall, they seem to got their shit together! I still honestly think it doesn't get much more heavier than the TRUE HM-2 tone SPECIFICALLY the one used on "Children Of The Cross" by "Dismember", but I definitely want this pedal alongside the HM-2 in my rig!
Never apologize, Nick! See You In Hell is a fucking metal classic! I first heard it as a teen just getting into metal, on one of the CKY movies (I think). That was one of the songs that made me want to pick up guitar
Glenn, I just received the Northern Mauler last week & this is no B.S. this is the perfect distortion pedal in my humble opinion. I've been playing since I was 11 in 1997 & have tried countless pedals over the years to achieve the perfect metal tone for me & some have come close but this pedal achieves it. Well done!
What I quite liked about this was that it seemed (to me at least) like ALL the variations are sufficiently 'restricted' so they would work well in a full band/mix situation. I have a hard time imagining someone using this pedal and having their sound fighting with other guitars or bass for space in the frequency spectrum. Which can only be a good thing :)
I just got one. I don’t play any metal but I do enjoy raunchy sounds in country-rock and this has it in spades. The blend function is great, it gives you a lot of control over the sound. I run it through a Yorkville tube amp with a Eminence Tonker and it gives me a sound I really like.
curious on how this would sound on bass, set the "modern" side to be clean or a bit overdriven with the hm2 providing the dirt and then blending however much you needed into the "clean/modern" tone
What!? 2:31 That's more like a bug than a feature. If volume controls how it distorts it's not a volume but a gain knob. If the gain is tied to a volume knob it takes away control between distortion and volume.
@@SpectreSoundStudios Hey Glenn! This pedal sounds freaking awesome, I’m really digging it. Thanks again for sending one my way on your live stream last night! Cant wait to try this thing out myself!!!
my question would be how much of the Revv "red Channel" used in the video was the tone and how much was the pedal... it sounded great in the video however I am doubtful that it was the pedal as there was no base tone shown without the pedal on... or did I miss that?
I ordered the Mauler Pedal a couple weeks ago to my home in Texas thru Sweet Water and I was told today my order will not be coming in until April. Why is my order taking longer than usual? 🤘🤘🎸
WORKS 4 ME! Sounds great, good job on your first pedal! GREAT CONCEPT! 1 Gain control, totally new drive idea. Fluffs demo was pretty good too. Nick is the best LH axman! Thx Glen \M/
For modern high gain tones, my Engl amp works great without pedals, from clean to extreme levels of high gain saturation, Fortin Natas, Diezel VH4, etc., would as well. Old school pushing a tube amp with boosts, eqs, ODs, dists, etc., was needed before amps were able to reach high gain on their own. For me, I just don't see the need for pedals to push my tube amps, that's why I have these amps. Back in the day, I used a full ADA rack rig, including the MQ-1 (stereo graphic eq). Using the same MP-1 preset and varying the MQ-1 eq curves, I was able to get a wide range of different sounds. I've been using EQ pedals as a boost ever since, usually for my leads. I have a 5-band graphic EQ and a noise gate pedal that I rarely use, except as a lead boost. If you haven't tried it, you may be surprised what a 5, 7 or 10-band EQ into the front of your amp can do. IMO. IME.
Hey Glenn, quick question: many suggest using pedals like this one plugged straight into the return of an effects loop. How can I do that and still use my effects after the pedal in a signal chain? Do I just make an effects chain with this near the beginning and plug it all into the loop? Pardon if I'm just stupid. Thanks, Glenn!!
In the future i would love to see how it sounds with a boss katana. Its my only amp i got and i would like to get my hands on this pedal. Have it be the first pedal in my collection. Been watching for afew years now always love the content. 🤘🏻❤️🤘🏻
I own a 2x12 Katana Mk. 1 and just got my Mauler in the mail yesterday. Wow! This pedal makes it sound like Im playing through a half stack! It really sounds amazing!
GLEEEEEEEEEEEEEN!! i just love that bottom end on you tracks, could your make a video explaining how to get a massive tone like that??? PLEEEEEEEEAAAAAASE!!!! maybe a multi track (processed so we know how they sound) but hollllyy f***ck please explain how you get that tone!!! PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAASE!!
With it being a Revv product, I thought it'd be twice as expensive as I would think, but it turned out to be half of what I expected, so it seemed to be even cheaper than I thought it'd be even though it's priced at what I originally thought it should be.
Figured I'd just drop this question here to hear from you guys.. at a smaller budget, what speakers would you recommend for a Vakveking 4x12 cab? The stock ones are horrible... Oh, and I'm looking to tightening up the low end mainly and get a clearer sound. Right now it's muddy as a swamp soccer tournament.
Not quite my pedal.. but have to say, the sound quality of the video is superb.. voice vs hearing the sound is very balanced. I guess that was a well treated room?
What if you started from a clean tone from a "non-metal" amp, like a Two Rock, and then engaged this pedal? I'm not sure if the dry signal of the amp in this demo was also overdriven.
Literally last week I was describing to my buddy how I wanted to try blending a modern metal tone with an old-school chainsaw or doom sound and wondering if it would work - this pedal sounds killer!
several one-channel preamp/distortion pedals come out at the same time: chug, soldano, this one. but i would suggest to everybody "demonfx be-odx plus", which is a clone of friedman's be-od deluxe. i have one. it sounds amazing and has two proper channels.
I think there's only one knob missing that is a master volume..rest all is good..wanna see a comparison with grindstein pedal if possible. love ur vdos glenn. cheers from India.
awwww, shit, just when I had convince dmyself I was happy with my Metal Zone MT-2, along comes this video. Ah well, money is meant to be spent! Sounds awesome, Glenn....I think I have to have one!

that sounds awesome! REVV makes some killer sounding stuff man. Don't think I've heard a REVV product that didn't sound awesome. On a completely unrelated note, If you haven't been keeping an eye on it, you might want to do an updated check on the Helix (either Native or one of the hardware units). The new update (3.50) give you the option to move the position and the angle of the "digital" mic on the new cabs, which is something I have wished they had for a while.... Very cool stuff.
Not too shabby at all. Saves having to stack a pedal or two with a HM-2 to round out the chainsaw tone. Might have to wait till we're out of the upcoming recession for the AUD to bounce back before I can order one though lol.

with a heavy price tag im sure. okay not bad at all. I bookmarked the site. Awfully great timing too cause I've been looking to upgrade my equipment and heres a possibility
I still have to check the new Jeff Loomis signature distortion pedal, but comparing this to the Chug by Solar I must say this one definitely sounds like it has it's own character while the Chug sounds like it was designed to always deliver a consistent, possibly a little sterile chugging distortion. This one on the other hand has a little sense of danger and unpredictability to its sound.
Shades of Heartwork tones on the full mix, but a bit modernized. Fantastic sound
Ty! Love that record!!
Heartwork was a groundbreaking album that defined the sound of 'heavier' metal for the following however-many years, so that's a great compliment.

Yay! Nick from Sweetwater and of course Grim Reaper! Glad you got to go there and announce your pedal Glenn. So cool! 🤘
is the video cutting to black at 1:22 for anyone else?
Holy shit so many killer pedals coming out right now. Not a full chainsaw fan but digging that blended sound
That was the idea!
The tone-metals in this pedal deliver crisp, clear mids and searing highs.
It's that tantalium pedal body.
Awesome pedal Glenn!!!! It sounds amazing on a RUclips video, so I can only imagine in person.
Congratulations!
Man, I was hoping for built in noise gates. Can you do a deluxe version with per channel Cock Blocker circuitry? Call it the Cock Mauler
Variation on a theme. Distortion turns the noise gate on, so it could be called the Cock Exciter lol
Fucking badass pedal!!! It seems very versatile. And props to Nick Bowcott...he's STILL got it!!

Full mix the guitar that's a Chapman 7 string Z or explorer style I haven't seen that one before

That sound great. Could you see if you can get some good sounds out a Gamechanger Plasma Pedal.
Can you use a Northern Mauler with a really high gain already metal distortion built in amp and still have it work?
The shred pedal from bernth, the chug from ola, the soldano overdrive and now this thing. Easy pick, get a looper and run all four parallel...

What is the name of the full Mix song and is it available?
