    • @barbsmart7373
      @barbsmart7373 4 месяца назад

My British partner of 17 years had his army numbers as his pin number.
He never really talked about his service in Cyprus.
I cared for him with dementia.
It wasn't until I was forced by the Consultant to put him in a secure rest home.
He quickly was deemed unmanageable and was put in a small high dependency section there.
His mind always replaced new, or unremembered realities with situations and people he remembered.
It was in that place that I got an inkling of the fear and stress he had endured.
HD was watching thd staff like a hawk. They were the enemy. He didn't move and was really stressed if I made a sound.
I remember saying something like "I will stay with you, am on your side" of something. He said "Thanks mate".
It was a revelation being with him when he was on patrol, and at risk of being spotted and killed at any moment.
A gentle man from the Returned Services Association spoke at his funeral.
There again I got a stronger picture of the sacrifice, the effect on a man (he never again worked indoors after Cyprus) after the level of fear and dangers faced, and I think seeing people killed, including women.
A lot of us have no damned idea at all. And have no appreciation of our freedom and fortune. I have chosen to be buried with him one day.
In the grave next to his
is where a gentleman from the Maori Battalian was buried.
I am a nurse and 2o years ago, my elderly patients in men's rooms asked eachother where the served. But when I asked, my response was blank. I knew nothing.
I have made it my mission to know where any allied veteran from WW1, 2, and other wars had been and what occurred there.
My little country of New Zealand has monuments, halls, gates, bridges and parks...in every little place to commemorate the young men who died for Britain, France etc.
There is so much to learn from human conflict and so many millions of men to honour and remember every day we live.

Well, Order Arms from Present Arms is a four count movement. You go to Port Arms first, on count one. On count two, you lower the weapon to your right side, guiding it down with the left hand on the bayonet stud, fingers extended and joined, and the right hand gripping the weapon firmly under the upper hand guard., with the fingers of the right hand extended and joined, until the toe of the butt of the weapon touches the right side of the right foot, approximately one inch from the ground. On count three move the left arm to the left side as in the position of attention. On count four, gently lower the butt of the weapon to the ground.

      Hello again my Friend.
It is exciting for me to read such a kind and interesting reply.
I have watched various podcasts and lots of War documentaries, and seen a lot of comments in writing that is Russian. Usually there is no translation. I have replied to many Russian people and sometimes I get a reply.
I can never really comprehend what the German people did, especially in Russia. And I am really, really amazed at what your people did to
save their country and people, from such horror. It is incredible.
I can not really comprehend the brutality inflicted on Russian people. I don't think I ever will.
I admire such strong Russian people, and Russian women very much.
In England, women did the men's work, but not fighting. The German women lived a privileged life, I think. They could all stay home with their children and they ate rather well.
I feel bad because Britain wasn't any help
to Russia. Maybe it was far too risky to send the Brits to that situation.
I am from New Zealand. I have been here all my life.
I love my country too, for different reasons. Especially the natural beauty and wildlife. Also the character of our people- friendly, laidback, humane. And most of us embrace the different cultures here, especially our Maori people and culture.
Another thing is that we we have Monuments to honour our men who died fighting Germans from 1915 till 1918. I admire the Russian men, the way they fought while being gassed by those Germans.
I know men whose fathers fought in France. They were gassed.
A tenth of our population went to the other side of the world to fight the Germans in Gallipoli and France.
We have been honouring our war heroes ever since.
Our men also fought from 1940 till '45.
I am a nurse, and I cared for thousands of elderly Kiwi (New Zealand) men who fought against Germans, Italians and Japanese.
I didn't know what Russian people thought of the actions of all the rest of us- Brits, Americans, French, Aussies, Kiwis.. It was hell of course. We were in Italy, North Africa, Egypt, the Pacific. A lot of our men flew with the RAF, so helped to protect Britain and to bomb Germany. They had to live for decades with what they had done. But they were impossible choices. You can see I still have not come to terms with the German mindset.
Hundreds of our guys were at Normandy too I think about all my heroes- Russian, British, American, Aussie, Canadians...Scandinavians, resistance workers. It is incredible...Russians are really incredible and tough.
On a lovelier topic, I watch Russian dancers and Russian singers and choirs. I love all these wonderful and amazing things. And the words of the songs are beautiful and strong.
I have got to know only 3 different Russian people in my life, just a little bit. They all had a big effect on me.
They were all in sad circumstances but I have lost touch with them. They were in 3 different towns. They were so friendly, open and very very generous. I will never forget them. Their hardships, their generosity and beauty were huge.
That is a little from New Zealand.
I really appreciate your reply after being unable to communicate with so many Russian people writing comments that I don't understand.
Whenever I see Russians on little films or videos, they seem very nice and the comments are always very very polite.
It is 9.24 in the morning down here.
      Have a happy night.
      Love from New Zealand!

This film shows how young men and grown men volunteered to go to war. Mel Gibson and Mark Lee. It was the First World War. A very powerful anti-war film that moved me to tears.Another film is The Water Diviner, directed and starring Russell Crowe. Australian Joshua Connor travels from his native Australia to Turkey to find his three sons. They are listed as missing after the Battle of Gallipoli.
