What do you think is better, Latrigg during the day or Latrigg at sunset? Not sure what it's like as a day hike? You can check out my 2019 experience here: ruclips.net/video/MCAdlf601zw/видео.html
Looks like a lovely hike. I am glad the local government decided to put some resources into this area to make it accessible for all. I too am I morning person so I am rarely out to see a sunset but that was was pretty spectacular. Thanks for another lovely video. Greetings from across the pond!
Hopefully this may have inspired you to have a go at a sunset hike yourself? Like yourself, I loved hearing about how funds went into the old railways line to make it accessible for everyone. I appreciate how fortunate I am to be able to access all the trails in the Lake District (or maybe for those I'm too unfit for... I just need to apply myself) but this isn't the case for everyone, so great that the railway line is!
What a lovely time of the day to do this walk, the colours of the countryside and hills are superb - the whole area looked like a perfectly lit picture! Disappointing not to get a marker or trig point but I guess that's because there are other higher mountains in the background? The bench view was wonderful and the way the trees on the edge of each field cast a shadow made it all look very dreamy. You know you've had a full day when you finish off in the dark!
Interesting question about why Latrigg doesn't have a trig point, so much so I've Googled it and the results are disappointing. Writing online says there is one... but there's no pictures of a trig point, and given that we couldn't see one, I think the internet is lying! 🤣 I too loved how the trees were casting a shadow on the fields below in the golden light - pleased you picked up on that too!
I went up Latrigg during the day but there was really low clouds and snow about and it was magical. But nothing beats a sunrise or a sunset! Beautiful views and great video 😁
Oh my goodness, the snow sounds so magical 😍 I've only ever been to the Lakes in summer, or very late Spring it may well have been summer. It'd be interesting to see it at other times of the year!
I didn’t know about this route - thank you! Looks like a good one for when we’re stopping in Keswick and the weather has put pay to any of the high routes. 👍
That's a good point about this being a good route for when weather makes the higher fells more sketchy. I'd recommend Cat Bells and Walla Crag for this too. Walla Crag is on the east side of Derwent Water and Cat Bells on the western side :)
How are you doing mrs Caroline thank you for sharing your trips with us . As always iam gathering main information about places you visited briefly here it’s latirgg is one of lowest fells in Lake District in northwest England, but its popular climb over looking town of keswick and beautiful views down of valley borrowedale from summit. It’s least mountaininous of skid daw fells . The summit being almost entirely devolved of rock. Slopes of latrigg are partially wooded logging work is currently being under taken . One tree just south of summit is prominently viewed. There are several points of interest such as 8 lakes half day tour , mountain goat tour ten lakes , ghyll scrambling water adventures in Lake District, sailing experiences on lake Windermere, Beatrix Potter morning entrance fees , goat high mountain, rock climbing keswick.
Hi Khatoon, I'm well thank you, I hope you are too? That's a good point about the summit not having much in the way of rock - it really was more like a grassy hill top. The ghyll scrambling water adventure you mention has always looked like a lot of fun. Maybe one for another visit?
Last part of my research keswick museum, derwent water , fitz park . Bobbin mill was originally one of two tunnels on cockemouth keswick and pentrith railway line and was through spur on banks Of Greta line closed in 1972 . Has been cleared of thousands of tons of earth and rubble and now back in use . The Eire railway quarry was opened in 1870s by mr h hark ewitz man of German descendant to supply railway ballast to penetrate keswick line .
Hi Kevin. If you're a fast hiker who doesn't stand around gazing at the views, taking photos, etc, I'd say allow 3 hours. Add more for lunch, photo stops, etc. I hope this helps.
