Just been to Keswick last week, favourite town in the lakes! Me Dad used to go there as a boy, and took me several times. His favourite place was Friars Crag, so whenever we're up there, it's become somewhat of a pilgrimage. We're Geordie born and bred, from Wallsend, but moved o South Wales when I was 11 (now 46). One big miss in your vid was The Olde Keswickian, best fish and chips in the world!!! Great vid again!
I am from Cockermouth near Keswick and I can't speak for chips, but by far the best fish I've ever had was from the Cod Father in Silloth. It's that good I once made the hour round trip from Cockermouth just because I was craving it.
Brilliant video, we have been going Keswick every year for last 10yrs. Amazing town in the lakes, plenty of shops, lots of pubs and restaurants and places to eat. Fantastic bus service running from outside Booths supermarket. We always get a 7 day megarider bus ticket while there and can get on and off as much as you like in the lakes, and is great for taking you to walk starting points too. Nice cinema and theatre too so some good plays on and past few years there's been a weekend concert there too. 👍
I've hiked everything worth hiking in the UK, from Ben Nevis, Skiddaw (boring), Scafell Pike, The Storr, Helvellyn (via Striding Edge of course), you name it, done most of them. ( never done Snowdon but apparently it isn't all that, similar to Ben Nevis). However, I have to say that my favorite hiking days are on Cat Bells. Its an easy walk, even for older/younger hikers, but the views are fantastic and due to the elevation, there is never any risk of clouds obscuring your views. Climbed it at least 8 times and perfect views every single time. A full lap of derwent is also a good one but can take quite a while. Keswick and Windermere are both trips me and the family take on a regular basis. Truly English countryside at its finest.
Great video Eddy, Keswick and the surrounding hills are wonderful! More town videos please - Durham, Alnwick, Berwick, Richmond, and maybe Sunderland and Middlesbrough. Thanks!
1st went there I primary school stayed at the John Hope .memorial camp in Braithwaite. After school every shipyard holiday about 12 of us would jump in the car and head to Threlked or Borrowdale for a great holiday usually ending up in Keswick Labour Club at the bottom of Main Street camping on the rugby club free of charge of course 😅😅😅😅😅😅 Very happy days memories forever. Another great video 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
I enjoyed that. Excellent heartfelt and sincere presentation of Keswick and the Lake District generally. Reminds me why I have no real desire to travel abroad when we have such pleasant surroundings on our doorstep.
Very interesting and informative video again Eddie. Love Keswick been a few good times love the place. Seeing your video makes me want to go again. Keep up the good work learning new stuff from every single one of your videos.
A mini Tour de Keswick! Cracking video, full of facts, great stuff Eddy! Nice one. The walks, the town, the people, the accomodation, all so good👍....why the need to go abroad when we have places such as the lakes?
Nice upload Eddie. Was camping in the Borrowdale area just last week. It held up its reputation for rain and blowing a hoolie.. Also one of my favourite places ..
Totally agree. I love the lakes spent many a day over there in my youth just used to drive over for the day every other week sadly i dont get over as much.
Awesome. We love to go in the canpervan and get lost up Helvellyn, it's another world. Don't take a campervan over Hardknott pass the brakes were smoking I had to swill them with a bucket of water from the stream 😅
I am from Gateshead High St born and bred I've lived just outside of Keswick portinscale since 1993 after leaving the army after 12 yrs Keswick is my north west east and south I love the place
Hello I have been there to Keswick a couple times and I know what you are talking about the Dog and Gun . I walked up cat bells one day and ended up in the dog and gun and had the golash witch was out of this world and a bread roll too very hearty meal I have walked around Derwant water too 5 hours a very enjoyable walk
Nice one Eddie, my favorite place too. We have just come back after spending two weeks in the Lakes and are due to go back in two weeks time. For future ref, the next time you are over, try the the Coffee shop at Threlkeld. It fantastic.
Loved the video. When I lived at home I used to go to the Lakes as often as I could. Started my outdoor career climbing there. I once remember going across on my Honda SS50 moped, I think it took me 5 or 6 hours from Newcastle to Borrowdale 😱
I've had plenty of those goulash over the years, top grub! If you really want to geek out, keep an eye out for Ordnance Survey bench marks when out and about, there's one on the Moot Hall. Great little video 👍
We are blessed to have beautiful scenery like Keswick more or less on our doorsteps it's about time people discovered different area's of Britain instead of going on holiday aboard because they don't know what they are missing out on.
We just left Keswick on Friday very difficult to leave as usual ,we stay in portinscale which is a bit quieter (sometimes)😂me and my youngest did catbells last Sunday that's enough for me!
A fantastic place Eddy. I spend a lot of my time there. I just got back from a challenge where I tried to climb the altitude of Everest in 72 hours, not the best time for a heatwave, but stunning views!
We where there yesterday my cousin is up here in Scotland but he is a ponteland lad we like Keswick greetings from Scotland 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧 I think we park in the same place it’s our secret
Great vlog Eddy. I spent all of my childhood holidays in Keswick (My Aunty and Uncle had a caravan on Derwent Water Caravan Park) I've been up and Cat Bells more times than I care to remember and Skiddaw (Is your pronunciation correct? We have always thought it was pronounced Skid aw.
Great vid. I felt like i was there. What sweets did you get?? There are Olde fashioned sweet shops at various tourist spots here in Victoria, Australia. I always buy something to remind me of home.
I’ve wild camped all over the surrounding fells Garrin. Coledale Hause is a good one but what I do is get a nap out and pick a flat spot, high up and next to a water source 👍🏻
@@TynesideLife planning on setting up a group soon to get a few over there. Nice people and nice scenery. That’s the plan. More than welcome. 👍 enjoying your videos by the way. We should be very proud of Newcastle and our surroundings so it’s good to learn more about them
