If you guys speak to James or Gamefreak again please ask them to animate instead of cutting to black, like in sword and shield and Arceus
@@BigFootSize - Just talked to em. They said ok.
Hey you need to give credit to maxmoefoe for voicing. Please credit him!
With all these facts, do you guys have a favorite pokemon fact?
@@OCRSaiyan - Yes but we're saving it for a future video. More like a story than a fact really.
I love the fact that Max is voicing this
Ok that makes so much sense I was wondering why this mf sounded so familiar
It's kinda funny because he's never this calm
Same.
is it just me or does he sound like chadtronic
I thought I was going crazy listening to chill Max not knowing it was him but suspecting it was the whole time lmao.
I remember, before the game/movie came out, and Lugia was only teased with photo, and his name had not been released; my friends and I were convinced that its name was Aquatro. We thought it was part of Legendary Birds, but a water type...Arcticuno (UNO), Zapdos (DOS), Moltres (TRES), Aquatro (QUATRO). So Aquatro would have carried on the Spanish numbers theme.
Smart
Well, that name would be extremely funny for spanish speakers, because Aquatro sounds exactly like "a cuatro", which means doggystyle sex xD
Then the Psychic bird, Psyncho
@@serx4994
In your case it would mean doggystlye serx
Ah to be young and dumb, I miss those days
That part about Shudo naming the girl in the movie after his daughter because he had her at 45 and that he would be old or dead by the time she grew up made me tear up, even more so because it ultimately came true.
Same here. Immediately made me cry. The movie is really beautiful and heartfelt too, which makes it so much more impactful to hear about it :'(
It's a weird feeling, knowing some people involved with making the franchise what it is now dealt with the things they did just to continue creating a universe millions have grown to since it's inception. As a little kid I always thought in a way more naive way about it and thought that the people behind the show and games were as happy making it as I was enjoying what they all made.
It's almost poetic.
Entei becomes a sort of pseudo father figure for most of the movie, because she loses her father (and had already lost her mother).

Lugia has actually been my favorite Pokemon ever since it was introduced, so it was great to hear its backstory. Thank you DYKG!!!
It's one of my top five favorites! Always has been.
Tysm for making an hr long version of one of these videos, I like to fall asleep learning pokemon facts 😂
I think there didn't want to make Shudo's movie with a T-Rex because they didn't wanted to introduce real animals in the series at that point. Even the animals shown in the first season of the anime was actually an animation error in a time where nothing was canon yet.
But oh boy, I want know how such film would look like.
52:20 “while we’re on the subject of Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire, there are rumblings from fans about a possible remake of those games” this must be from an OLD video, ORAS came out a full 8 years before this one lol
Pokemon 2000 was my favorite Pokemon movie. I literally watched it every night for almost two months lol
The Pokémon 1 hour videos are my favorite background vid for falling asleep or doing chores!
>Lugia was the product of alcohol and drugs
Such a bizarre and twisted origin for a majestic design
That last bit about James helping bringing back shadow Lugia didn’t age well since he left the company lol really sucks since he also designed my fav galar Pokémon, sinistea. I’m excited to play his new plucky squire game though. Honestly it would of been cool to see shadow lugia in Pokémon go considering that it’s available there albeit not color swapped
I think i watched all the pokemon curiosity videos! Love the channel
title: 1 HOUR of Pokémon facts
video length: UNDER AN HOUR 😂😂😂😂
15 seconds in and i can already see why these aren't pokemon facts to fall asleep to!
No wonder these movies felt like fever dreams the guy writing it was sauced 😅 still love all of them though
Love seeing the facts about pokemon based on ancient animals
The og Pokemon movie still remains my favorite to this day shudo was an absolute artist
I gotta say I have a very soft spot for all the Pokemon facts (and Zelda), but I LOVE everything Johto related
Man, starting this with maxmoefoe is always surprising for some reason.
Shudo’s story is pretty sad. As someone who has dealt with similar substance abuse issues. It’s unfortunate that he couldn’t find help
Nah, addicts gwt what they wanted in the end. Death.
@@threehead99edgy.
I always knew why lugia was my favorite Pokémon ever
3:58 to the right is the mysterius Arcenine-looking legendary pokemon that appeared in the first episode of the anime on the picture in prof. Oak's lab. Real.
The first three pokemon movies will always stand out as some of the best to be made for pokemon, atleast for me. I wonder how the pokemon games would have been effected if Shudo had got his wish and Ash was replaced by a new protagonist, most likely based on the Johto trainer.
Just a heads up, a pterodactyl is it's own genus under the "umbrella" of pterosaur. They're not colloquial though, or on the same level. The script made it sound like pterosaur was the more formal name for pterodactyl which it's the case. :) Just throwing that out there.
Poor Shudo. I can totally understand what it's like dealing with a troubled life in terms of your own demons. I don't know if had mental illness (sounds like he did and was self-medicating- I know it is a bit difficult to get help for mental health issues in Japan compared to some other countries). I hope he's finally at peace. Lugia is in my top five favorites. It always has been. I remember looking up possible reasons for it's name way back when, like over a decade ago and found something about a root word in ancient Greek or something for "lug(e)" meaning "silver". It was such an abstract bit of information that I had trouble cross-referencing, however, so not sure how valid it is. Just thought it was interesting. :)
I think its sorta obvious suicune was supposed to be the original silver cover before being on crystal
I genuinely love these extended clips for specific topics , Pokémon & Mario Especially. 🙌🏽
R.I.P. Takeshi Shudo ❤
I failed a shiny guzzlord while watching this
Some of those demo mons need to make their way into the current games
I always wondered why Gen 2 had less Pokemon.
Keep the pokemon vids coming! Love them!
...this video should really be renamed to *30 MINUTES of Takeshi Shudo Facts.*
I hate the fact that Lugia is not Water/Flying. More than its concept, it not being a proper counterpart to Ho-Oh bugs me:(
I thought the whole porygon thing was an urban legend? I remember hearing someone diving into it and couldn’t find any actual reports when looking back at the day or something, and that TPC had pulled the episode in advance just in case; similar to the whole Muslim chanting in OOT thing - it was pulled in advance. Did it actually happen?
Normally America has uncensored games compared to places like Japan, Germany, Australia, China, etc. But to see a Japanese game censored is America is crazy! It makes sense for the audience there but still. Makes you wanna play the originals instead. Maybe those fan translated ones.
Oh wow you really did Lugia's creator wrong
Is that just randomly tier zoo halfway through the video?
Yes sir
Is maxmoefoe giving us the facts
Lugia xd has swapped colors from it's fins and main color white to black. Wich is cool☺️😵💫
The part about the Bulbasaurus dinosaur being named after Bulbasaur due to it's discoverer "being a huge pokemon fan" wasn't true, it was a coincidence due to naming the animal off of it's characteristics, although they did say they wouldn't stop anyone from drawing parallels
The discoverer of the Bulbasaurus, Dr Christian Kammerer, co-wrote the Fossil segment of this video (I was the other co-writer). He's a big Pokémon fan, and he said he did name the Bulbasaurus after Bulbasaur.
@@DJIVision Oh wow my bad, that's very interesting, I had no idea he helped co-write the section. Thank you for clarifying this!
@@dgouin99 No worries mate. This hour-long video's a compilation of several shorters videos. In the original Fossils video, the outtro said some stuff about Dr Kammerer co-writing the video. But the outtros got cut out from this compilation, so there's no way you could've known. Cheers mate, have a good one :)
But Ash told me Master trainers don't do drugs!
Shishi just means „stone lions“ (so no need to use the Chinese term, as if it was a special term) and also the intonation is completely different.
Also fenghuang.
Maxmoefoe needs to make this content
Based on the info you provided I’d hardly call it substance abuse, he liked a drink and acknowledged knowing when he’d had enough. Sounds dramatic though right?
The first thing he did was crack open a bottle of booze
cheers max
It kinda seems like shudos obsession with Lugia's gender is based on either him feeling a genuine "love" towards his creation, just like how some people online can get overly invested in either a shipping or a character in tv/manga.
Either that or maybe he had some gender dysphoria and Lugia was a way of him reimagining himself as a majestic creature that is decidedly female, so Lugia being coded male sent him into a deep gender dysphoria depression and panic.
Is the narrator max from cold ones? Sounds like him lmao
Is this Max??
Too bad you can't transfer shadow lugia to the newer games
"In Pokémon Red, Blue, and Yellow, your progress is halted in Viridian City by a grumpy old man who won't let you pass until he had his morning coffee. In the Japanese versions, however, the old man was Takeshi Shudo"
What is your source? I’d love if this were true
@@ZedJay23 its a joke i believe
@@dr.trousers6101 I don't think it's a joke. Maybe misinformation but I feel like I also remember this as fact.
@@chrisstarcher6010 bro the game was made before the show. why would they know about takeshi then.
@@dr.trousers6101 Takeshi is the name of the creator of Pokemon, they named Ash after him in the Jp anime
Takeshi Shudo was a very talented and... strange man.
If i remember correctly, before the Pokémon tv show, they made the berserk anime.
@@bas7467 Minky Momo, actually.
No he just like alcohol and tranqs, not an uncommon thing these days. His mind if for imagination was off the chart.
YOU’RE very talented and strange. 😁😋
Unlike the people on this channel, who just seems to recycle the same old content and try to pass it as new
Lugia has a poetically tragic and beautiful story. May the creator rest in peace, knowing he brought memories and joy to many
The fact that Lugia was not created by the Game Freak staff will never cease to amaze me. Shudo came up with a design that blends in so well with the rest of the pokémon roster at that generation that it almost feels like the devs were the ones who came up with the original design.
Calm down.
I thought shudo only came up with the themes for Lugia and didn't have any part in the actual designing of it
@@Robert-tl2vgcalm down about what? He’s right lmao. Seems you’re the only one here with a stick up their ass lol.
What if in an alternate timeline, Shudo had been a GameFreak artist in the early-1990s? And if Lugia was Gen 1's 150th Pokemon? While Mewtwo became the 152nd Mythical? And if both Mews were obtainable after showing Oak the completed 150 Pokedex?
"His creative process was fueled by alcohol and tranquilizers." Okay, Max. Stop projecting.
this broke me
I always thought it was so weird that Lugia was Psychic/Flying and not Water/Flying and now I know why. All to make it seem “strong” because the Psychic type was so OP back then lol
I dont rly get it. That must have been wayyy before they thought of the 2 new types or even balance & mechanics in general for gen2.
@@mars.unreal the new types then was dark and steel. But psychic types were still op. Which is why they made dark type
@@mars.unreal psychic types were basically resistant to everything and had special moves(no tms) for certain psychic types(like mewtwo) that were stronger than two turns worth of damage on an equal level Pokémon of a different type
Couldn’t he use like telepathy in the movies?
@@billyshears2032 the movies definitely gave him that ability to justify the psychic typing
This is my first time discovering this channel and I thought I was going crazy… I knew this was Maxmoefoe’s voice! I’m like there’s no way this person sounds 100% like him without all the swearing hahaah

@@alexmurray2327 haha same, 5 minutes i was like wait wtf is this maxmoefoe?

Man despite how much I watched and loved the early Pokémon anime and movies, I never even knew who the creator was. Its cool (and a little sad) to hear about his life. At least we know his legacy will carry on for the foreseeable future. Also now he got his wish of an anime reboot without Ash, it just came way later.
Loved hearing about Takeshi. I had know idea about who he was and did. He sounds like a troubled but brilliant man!
Great watch. I never knew the history of Lugia, interesting... and sad😔RIP Takeshi Shudo.
Thank you for these longer uploads, great podcasts when working
Exactly why I am here *fistbump*
I’ve listened to this video to fall asleep more nights than I want to admit and every time there’s something new that blows my mind. Thanks for an absolutely packed hour!
I intentionally try not to pay full attention to videos like these to help extend the shelf life of it, meaning when I watch it again and again, there will always be something I don't remember seeing/hearing the last time I viewed it.
It's amazing to know that even to this day many are still so invested in Pokémon and learning more about the franchise this way. There's some real interesting facts I didn't even know yet. ( And this was while listening to this one on Spotify while working! )
This channel has a Spotify?
Shudo sensei. If only you knew how much your glorious work changed mine and my friends lives. It’s not the same without your tireless effort. I miss your work dearly. And without your touch, i stopped watching Pokemon.
Rest in pease sir!
Shudo's story is a very sad one, and even if I don't agree with all of his takes on the pokemon world, there are many aspects of his vision that are still intrinsic to the franchise as a whole. RIP Takeshi Shudo.
I've always been a huge fan of Lugia due to XD: Gale of Darkness, so it's nice to here about its origin! Didn't expect its origin to be like this though.
Mad respect to Shudo, an unsung hero in the legacy of Pokémon.
It's weird because I actually remember Lugia having a female voice when it was played at the cinema. And I then also always imagined Lugia being female. But then I was really surprised when many years later I got the DVD and heard a male voice for Lugia. There could be a possibility that this was only exclusively for Austrian cinema versions, that they were like, "We have this voice actress and we really want her to have a main role in the movie so we let her voice Lugia", but then for the DVD release we got the version that was played in Germany. It's a slim possibility but at least it is a possibility. Why else would I remember a female voice for such a long time until only a few years ago?
In the anime I think it’s female with a baby too lol
Possibly Mandela effect since i believe it had a female voice in anime appearances
Mandela effect. It had a female voice in other appearences.
The editing matching the story is next level thank you for that and we appreciate it
Dang, you guys certainly chose depressing segments to start with.
Man that bit about the unlicensed goods somehow got me. I don't know why. I've just discovered this man (who created one of my fave pokemon) and now I'm in awe of his contributions to the franchise
I gotta say, you guys are providing soo good and awesome content for so long. Thanks! Those last older videos are from the time I first found you and I enjoyed every video you guys ever made!
Okay, Shudo is officially my hero.
Should he be though? The man was an alcoholic and drug addict
Really glad you mentioned how people like these kind of videos in the background. I deal with bad anxiety and need to sleep with content playing in the background to help me fall asleep. This channel has been a godsend 😊
I thought I was the only one . Good to know 😅
Shudo's story is incredibly unique in many good and awful ways, very much an example of a "tortured genius"
The scary stuff about drifloon seems to have been kept in Pokémon Legends Arceus with the kid that gets dragged to the beach. Actually creeped me out a bit when I turned up to get him to go home
Lugias song is something that I've legit been humming and whistling a couple of times per week since the movie came out back in 2000 (i think?)
Been watching for 8 years already and the pokemon videos have always been my favorites. I remember all the guests back then like jontron and egoraptor/arin hanson and those were such an awesome thing to me when i was a little guy.
I didn't recognize Arin in the section until he voiced the girl
These pokemon compilations have been helping me get back into the series after a few years hiatus, so thanks for posting them

I've been working on a table top and your videos have been an amazing resource to pull from. I appreciate more than just Pokemon; but you've made my work a lot easier. Thank you for the hours of entertainment and inspiration.
is. is that chadtronic??? doing the voiceover of the second one?????
Glad to see we're getting these for this year too! I don't usually watch the shorter, 10-minutes-ish Did You Know Gaming Videos, so these compilations are a great way for me to catch up on the videos I missed over the year.
I always love watching these pokemon facts. It's interesting how invested shudo was in Lugia and the connection he felt with his creation.
“There are rumblings of a possible remake of Ruby and Sapphire.” Uh, yeah about that….
Yeah, probably „Let’s Crush Team Magma“ and „Let’s Crush Team Aqua“.
Really enjoy that in these hour long compilations there’s always at least one new thing I learn! You guys put in the work and it’s amazing everything is only getting better as you enter year 10
Is that Maxmoefoe? Or am I going nuts

For real though, Takeshi Shudo's story is a fascinating and haunting one. You guys really do great work

1 HOUR of Soul Crushing Depressing Facts
The power of one movie came out when I was 11 I had played Pokémon red and encountered missingno so when I first saw the movie I was convinced that Lugia was missingno and that it’s the leader of the legendary birds and that it’s a water flying or dragon so imagine my surprise when I played Pokémon silver for the first time and discovered that Lugia is psychic. Also I was 11 don’t ask me how I made the connection to missingno lol
I love how we all associate pokemon with childish content, but in reality the inspirations for it (at least in the first generations) tend to be oddly dark.
This is a fascinating video, all the way through. There's something about learning things going on behind one of my favourite childhood series that feels weird and amazing at the same time.
I forget if you already covered this, but there's a pretty interesting tidbit of trivia relating to the Pokemon Black/White final battles with N and Ghetsis. Ghetsis' Hydreigon alone has all the proper move coverage for N's entire team- legendary included.
Crazy how Pokemon has hospitalized 700 people with one episode and is still the top media franchise in the world. They just kinda pretend Porygon doesn't exist EVEN THOUGH IT WANT HIS FAULT. #freemyboyporygon
I'm listening to this at work so I might need to edit this later but wow, the info around Lugia and its creator is morbidly interesting... Crazy ;_;
man shudo was a real one for looking after the people selling unlicensed merch, glad he was able to bring us all such an awesome series even if he was struggling himself.
Super excited for this video! Thanks a ton for uploading! Will probably comment more later!
Pokemon Silver was the very first Pokemon game I ever played, in large part thanks to how cool I thought Lugia looked in the second movie. Lugia is still one of my favorite Pokemon to this day, and most of my nostalgic times of playing Pokemon came from using it in my first playthrough. Takeshi Shudo might not have liked what ultimately became of his concept for Lugia, but I hope he knew that it was still a favorite for many like myself.
The thought of a different mascot legendary for Silver other than Lugia is pretty intriguing! I wish there was more info on the pokemon that Lugia ended up replacing; but maybe it's a concept that could be brought back for a future game.
Pokemon Red was the first game I played in the series, so it's got a lot of nostalgia for me, but Pokemon Gold was the one I played the most when I was a kid. I don't think they perfected the formula until Gen 3 or 4, but there's just something about its simplicity.
Gotta love substance abuse
