    Great video! Your yarn came out so nice! Love the idea of plying with commercial spun. Layla is a lovely co host, so smart and already quite a Fiber artist!! Thank you!

    I applaud you for your patience...I would have been a quivering wreck with my daughter playing so freely with my batts! You are an absolute Saint meena. Layla is so cute though, I love that she is so transfixed by fibre and watches so closely what you do! Thanks for sharing this with us.

      haha ... it helped that this wasn't fibre i was feeling super precious about ... plus the batt was essentially a semi solid so there wasn't any colour progression or management that I wanted to maintain so I didn't mind her pulling it apart ... had it been something more precious I certainly would not have had her help me !

    You are so extraordinarily patient with your daughter! Bravo! I don't know if I could have been as graceful about her interaction with the wool

    It turned out very lovely. I laughed out loud when you told Layla to roll the fiber around her hand and she was rolling it on the table like I did as a kid to make a snake with modeling clay. Great ideas to use the batts we make on our blending boards!

    I'm not a spinner, just a knitter, so my question might sound lame..... I notice that you always spin the yarn so it's mixed with another color of yarn. You never spin it as one color. Why do you do that? Is it just because you like the effect of the mixed yarn? And another question, why do you always barber pole the yarn when you spin? Why not just like a single ply? The best yarn was the red on Layla's head and shoulders! So adorable!

      Hi Sandra, I don't actually always spin the yarn so its mixed with other colours I have done spins where I've kept the colours together, secondly yes I do like the effect of barber poling, in this case plying with a commercial yarn was to preserve yardage and an experiment. I also am not a huge fan of single played yarns ... I find they are less durable and I can't use them for all kinds of projects because of that.

    I love the yarn. Did you use a larger bobbin when plying in order to get one big hank? All I have is the smaller bobbins that came with my wheel but would love to sometimes make just one larger Hank. Thank you!

    Love the finished yarn. I didn't look overtwisted....did you remove some of the twist from the commercial yarn before plying?

    Did you notice any differences in the various ways of preparing the fiber as you were spinning? Did one prep spin easier or harder than another? Were there different effects? Or were they all pretty much the same? I suppose since they are basically one color each, it would be hard to tell if there were different effects. Thanks for a great video.

    • @KnittingExpat
      @KnittingExpat  4 года назад

      No I didn't really notice that much of a difference in the prep methods but there again I wasn't really spinning for a specific kind of thickness or particular finished yarn ... in the past I have noticed a difference between spinning smooth top and rolags and find that smooth top is easier to get a more consistent fine spin with than rolags but I found it easier to get thinner yarn with rolags when I was first starting out as a spinner
