I actually really like how the gold turned out with the smudge. Makes it look like sparks and does make make sense. You can never have too much sparkle. Beautiful interpretation of Howl. I love this movie so much!! My no. 1 animated movie!
Thank you so much! I love “happy accidents” because I would never have known how to do it without it being a mistake first haha, next time au do something like this I’ll try the smudge again 🤗
I love studio ghibli and Howl's Moving Castle was one of my favorite movies, too! And that scene was one of my favorites, too. It's really hard to choose a favorite among the ghibli movies!
It’s always a pleasure to see you paint and talking about your process. The painting is beautiful and moving, and it makes me want to rewatch to movie. It’s maybe my favourite (the part that I like is maybe when we see Howl in his animal form while he’s injured. My heart crush each time) Thank you for this peaceful video, James
@@Finelinernerd You’re welcome 😊 yes the second half is visually powerful. But Haru (Howl ´s french version) is beautiful in both parts 😁 This movie is such a masterpiece 🥰
This is amazing! They’re lovely paints hey? Amazing price and product 💜 My daughter and I love anything studio ghibli! Really looking forward to seeing you do more 🤍
Do you save your excess gold? I haven't used the flat sheets yet as it feels too wasteful, I bought a tub of the flakes instead and they seem to work really well. I need to practice more though. I'm glad you enjoyed the Roma Szmal paints! I think they are pretty marvellous, and like you say - such great value. Pity their Paynes Grey wasn't one you liked. I wonder if their Shadow violet or the Przybysz's Grey would be more to your liking?
Hey Amber! I find the sheets SO wasteful, I do have a few jars now of saved flakes, but I haven’t tried using them, I’m scared they’ll go everywhere 😂 Thanks for the recommendations of the greys, I have the shadow violet light but not the normal one, so I’ll try that and the true grey you recommended too next time I get some 🖤🖤
@@Finelinernerd Someone recommended these smile.amazon.co.uk/Tonic-Studios-850N-Radiant-Gilding/dp/B01INM686G/ref=pd_bxgy_2/261-5029765-3495344 so I bought some. There is a LOT packed into the tub, so in the end I decanted some into one of those clip lid food containers, because it was easier to manage. There are a decent number of large pieces too, so you can cover larger areas quite nicely. If you want a perfect, smooth look then leaves are better, but for small areas like your falling star trails and the like, these are great. Plus if you want to create a weathered, antique look over larger areas, you can use these. If course they are messy! Breathing too hard over them is a bad idea. 😂
Breathing in is my issue as well as out 😂 I put my paint making mask on when I’m using it haha. Thanks for the link Amber, I’ll look into getting some 🖤🖤
This is so beautiful. You really captured the mood of this scene! Howl's moving castle is only second on my ranking (Princess Mononoke is first), but I can't get enough of this movie, it's just so delightful. (and now I want to rewatch it again)
He looks gorgeous ❤️ And my Szmal Watercolor tend to separate quickly too but it happens mostly with the granulating colors. But still they are so beautiful!
They really do have good snap, and the bristles are a great length for water control too (for my way of painting at least, I know some people prefer much longer bristles to hold tonnes of water but I like my brushes to hold less otherwise I end up flooding the page. I guess what’s perfect for people is what they’re used too huh) 🖤
@@Finelinernerd I haven't had the chance to get through most of your videos YET, but that's the most technical info on those brushes I've read/seen/heard. That's great though! I think you sold me! Nice that they ship international for free too!
Hey Brenda, thank you! It’s a 5mm MDF board, but it warps with watercolour quite badly just because of how damp it gets while painting. I think with other types of paint it would behave better. I get mine from Hobbycraft (if you’re in the UK), but Jackson’s have a version too. Shout if you would like any more info 🖤
@@Finelinernerd perfect, thank you!! it looks like the exact material of the board that I bought years ago and I had no clue what it was lol! Thank you so much!
What glue do you use? I love gold leaf but always have a difficult time getting the gold leaf to actually stick to the glue, lol XD Tell me about your ways!
Hey Anne! I was thinking of some earth tones for hair like burnt umber and yellow ochre, and some green/blues like cobalt teal, malachite, and cobalt turquoise 🖤
They could be, the pans are pretty solid when dry but if they were exposed to a constant humidity that could be different as you say (I’m in the UK so there’s no chance of soggy watercolours haha!)
Oh man, watching this with a half picked out selection of roman smzal in my Jackson's cart is not helping my resolve to only do one art supply order per month 😅🤣🤣 I have such a large collection of 'standard' colours for a baby artist the more interesting pigment range from Roman smzals really piqued my interest and I love the first 6 colours that I grabbed from them. The virdian & potters pink are amazing, and rewet so easily and as someone who loves painting from dried pans is such a treat!
@@Finelinernerd They are really lovely and so well priced even after i had to pay $50 Aussie for postage the other week. still trying to decide on my next lot, but also got the mineral violet, cobalt violet deep (since most brands don't get great results from dried), perleyne green, indanthrone blue. Their van dyke brown, Aquarius grey and caput mortuum are are still in my cart, I try not to get convenience colours that I could easily mix myself but I'm a sucker for granulation and separation so I'll probably end up with the ocean blue and a few more cobalts because I haven't met a cobalt I haven't liked 😅🤣
You’re correct! 🤗 but it gets made differently by different people. Traditionally it’s U.Blue and burnt umber. Winsor and Newton do a weird combo and even add red to a green/blue pigment with black (which makes sense I guess because they’d neutralise to a brown). It seems like companies do whatever they like haha
Finelinernerd ohh wow i never knew it was made with burnet umber also! Im gonna try that combo! And I definitely agree that companies all seem to have a different combo of pigments. I also have that problem with alot of indigos with watercolor
I’m so sorry, I wrote umber by mistake, it’s sienna like you said before 😅 but I’m sure umber would work too! It’s worth testing it 🤗 yeah I find Indigos very different from brand to brand too
Finelinernerd no worries it still makes a cool color! And yea i bought Daniel smiths indigo and i am super disappointed in it as its super neutral grey looking. Has almost no blue in it. The windsor and newton professional one looks much better ima try that one next.
I’ve not tried their indigo so that’s good to know, and W+N professional indigo is my fave, it’s a bit Phthalo-ish but dries duller than that, it’s well worth trying 🖤
Those HANDS 😍😍 This piece is gorgeous, and I can't wait to make my way through your videos!
Hey Arleesha! I’m so glad to see you here and thank you for your kind words 😊🖤
i know Im kinda off topic but does anybody know of a good website to stream newly released series online ?
@Drew Thomas Flixportal =)
@Kannon Moshe thank you, signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there =) Appreciate it !!

I quite like Roman Szmal, but I think they would be too sticky if you live or travel somewhere hot and humid (which isn't a problem for me atm).
