Brutal honesty and shame are the best motivators for people to really make a change, I know from experience, when people coddled me I would continue on the same path, but when I felt shame and cringed at my actions is when I truly felt the need to change. I started listening to it and just thought "Damn Sharp is being so rude" when he asked her about the drugs since she obviously didn't want to talk about it but pretty quickly did I start seeing what he was seeing. Its hard to have someone tell you that you messed up and that its your fault because we live in a polite society when not even your friends are willing to tell you that its your fault and so you never see it. If you're a woman who grows up with "awesome" parents, like she mentioned, chances are her family doesn't talk to her like this either. So she wants to come here, say "am I not so relatble and cool?" because shes very agreeable and she doesn't like conflict, she gives in very quickly to Sharp, she doesn't even argue so she wants to be liked and he saw through her. In the end all she could do was sit in shame then pretend she doesn't care so she can put the mask back on. I wanted to take her side but as soon as she got defensive over the drugs, the mask started to slip. "Humanize me" "Tell us about your inner turmoil about bad habits" "No, not like that" What she really wants is to present a persona she feels she should have in order to be liked by men and not to be genuine in order to be liked by herself. I don't think shes an addict but I think she feels bad about what she does and is not willing to admit that to herself because then she would see that she needs and CAN change but her brain will go into "why wont you change if you know what the problem is and what you can do?" And that makes her feel bad about herself because she won't have an answer and attempting to find one will send her into another existential crisis. We all go through it and its hard. Nearly impossible to force someone else to go through it; they need to want it. "It" meaning breaking bad habits that are keeping us down, whether its sugar addiction, crack addiction, anger problems, whatever. I feel more sad for her than anything and Sharp, ironically, has indeed humanized her. Or maybe I'm projecting. I don't know but around the 29:00 min mark a lot of what he said really hit me personally. I hope it reached her too.

Brutal honesty and shame are the best motivators for people to really make a change, I know from experience, when people coddled me I would continue on the same path, but when I felt shame and cringed at my actions is when I truly felt the need to change. Sharp is coming from a good place, it only looks like disrespect to ignorant slow people who WANNA continue on a self destructive path
Foreal. I started listening to it and just thought "Damn Sharp is being so rude" when he asked her about the drugs since she obviously didn't want to talk about it but pretty quickly did I start seeing what he was seeing.
Its hard to have someone tell you that you messed up and that its your fault because we live in a polite society when not even your friends are willing to tell you that its your fault and so you never see it. If you're a woman who grows up with "awesome" parents, like she mentioned, chances are her family doesn't talk to her like this either. So she wants to come here, say "am I not so relatble and cool?" because shes very agreeable and she doesn't like conflict, she gives in very quickly to Sharp, she doesn't even argue so she wants to be liked and he saw through her. In the end all she could do was sit in shame then pretend she doesn't care so she can put the mask back on.
I wanted to take her side but as soon as she got defensive over the drugs, the mask started to slip.

What she really wants is to present a persona she feels she should have in order to be liked by men and not to be genuine in order to be liked by herself.
I don't think shes an addict but I think she feels bad about what she does and is not willing to admit that to herself because then she would see that she needs and CAN change but her brain will go into "why wont you change if you know what the problem is and what you can do?" And that makes her feel bad about herself because she won't have an answer and attempting to find one will send her into another existential crisis.
We all go through it and its hard. Nearly impossible to force someone else to go through it; they need to want it. "It" meaning breaking bad habits that are keeping us down, whether its sugar addiction, crack addiction, anger problems, whatever.
I feel more sad for her than anything and Sharp, ironically, has indeed humanized her.
Or maybe I'm projecting. I don't know but around the 29:00 min mark a lot of what he said really hit me personally. I hope it reached her too.
