I wish they had a shocked expression when they crash into stuff or fall in water or something lol. It is weird to see them just deadpan when they get drowned and then respawn.
This was my favorite SNES racing game, actually. I remember playing this on a PSP SNES emulator back in the day, and this game was actually developed by Varie. The titular Kat is the boss and the unlockable character. This was also Atlus' third SNES racing game after the GP-1 games. Also, the developer of this game, Varie, is also the same developer of the New Japan Pro Wrestling SNES games and the Japanese publisher of the SNES Super Putty game.
Love the video, but Japanese kei-car (short for keijidōsha) ≠ Chrysler K-Car (internal development code for the chassis/platform of their '80s and '90s economy cars)
I was wondering about this. The Honda Today is the car that the main characters drive in "You're Under Arrest", and it's a souped up cop car. Not really a "grocery getter", haha.
My routine after watching a SNESdrunk video: hit the like button and scroll down the comments in order to give a like to the kind person always telling us how long we’ve listened to “snnnnnesdrunk” being said in the intro. The importance of which cannot be overstated. On topic: thanks for sharing this game. I had never played or even heard of it.
I looked and i did not see a top 10 snes underrated soundtrack or something like it on youtube. Since you are pretty much the go to guy for snes, I think it could be a great list! Keep it up drunk!
Plymouth Reliant was be a large car in japan especially in comparison to Kei car which are sub tiny and must have an engine lesser than 600cc, in comparison the plymouth your plymouth had a massive 2200cc engine, many bigger depending on which model/type.
This actually looks pretty good. I'll give it a try tonight. Despite having my Ps4, Switch and Alienware I spend half my time at least going retro. I guess a child of the 80s will remain, in large part, a child of the 80s! Thanks for telling us about it, Drunk.
This game looks really good, and has a great soundtrack! Honestly idk what else you could ask from it. The character faces are cool too! The sprites are sick as well
I played this for the first time last year and I really enjoyed my time playing it. Definitely not perfect, but it felt unique and I appreciated that. Awesome to see you covering it Mr. Drunk!!
if i played this as a kid, i am sure i would have picked up a K car when i was able to drive, also, that music is damn catchy and those portraits are fire.
Your videos always cheer me up. I would have thought you'd run out of SNES games ages ago, but you never cease to amaze. If you ever do run out of SNES games to talk about I'd be all over GBAdrunk for a few decades.
I wasn't expecting having a chance to race with a Suzuki Jimny on the SNES, one of the bravest jeep-alikes I've ever seen. Small, but very efficient on off road tracks. Definitely not the kind of car you need if your family is getting bigger, the trunk is almost non existent.
This is what I love about this channel! I had zero knowledge of this game before today. Great video as always drunk! Also that title. Try saying that fast five times in a row.
Stuff like this is one of my favorite parts of the channel. Yeah I love all the classics on the system but all the stuff that slipped through the cracks has interesting things to offer as well.
This looks like the kind of game that would be far more well received today than at launch. If you go in expecting the game to push the limits of the system, like many of its contemporaries, then it would be disappointing, as this does not look much better than F-zero (a little bit better, but not much), and F-zero was released 5 years prior. But if you go in with modern expectations of a SNES game, then it does not seem bad at all.
1988 plymouth reliant k was my first car. That thing was a hoss. They saved the auto industry in all honesty. Mine was called the FuzzyPickle (ala Earthbound). They are the american equivalent to the Lada.
I like kei cars, and liked the idea of a kei car racing game but didn't know this was a thing that exists. The retro anime style is icing on the cake. I'll have to give it a look.
The first time I ever saw a Thundercats car sticker was on a Reliant and it took me a year to realize it was a reference to the band Reliant K's song I Am Lion-O.
Not sure I've heard of this one before, but I really like the idea of a racing game showcasing normal ass cars and quirky oddities rather than the usual high end sports cars, and as a big fan of Outrun more marathon racers are always a plus. I do also like the characters having the anime portraits also, like some sort of parody of Doom or Wolfenstein. Now if only it had the wonderful look of Outrun too...
My K-car was a 91 Plymouth Acclaim. First car. Crashed it the day I got my license and continued to drive it for another 4-5 years afterwards. Good times.
I'd classify my 2014 mirage as a kei car. 3cyl, naturally aspirated, designed to get 55mpg going 55 in traffic. And I totally want the AZ-1! Man that music is some snes bliss! I have a SNES everdrive but I've considered buying this outright.
A K Car is specifically one made by Chrysler on the K Platform. I think this game is referring to Kei cars which are small sports cars in Japan, the smallest highway legal vehicles there.
I absolutely adore the AZ-1, there's some person who works at the office across from my building who has one, and I'd honestly try to buy it off him if there were even the slightest chance I could actually fit in it. I also LOVE racing in AZ-1s and Suzuki Cappucinos and Honda Beats and shit like that in Gran Turismo. No lie. I'm a huge sucker for these things and will probably love this game if I can find it and a patch.
Ok this game looks so cool. I love the colors, the graphic style is awesome, and it looks so much like Super MarioKart. I definitely want this game now, idk how I'll be able to find it but I want it.
Drunk my maaan, thanks you just taught me something iv always been curious about but what was afraid to ask. I have a huge long story about K cars but I wont bore you with it. But I once had a very interesting day in the trunk of a car. And every one not in the trunk kept calling it a k car. I never knew what a K car meant. Like they said it so much and at the end of a very long hot day I was just to embarrassed to ask why do you guys keep calling it a K car. I thought it was a make or model. But always felt stupid to ask for clarification. SNES drunk I'm probably slightly older then you but you just brought me to class and taught me something like a high school history teacher. 4☆☆☆☆. Great review.
"Hey I had a Kei Car way back in the day, a 1985 Plymouth Reliant" I could hear car nerds everywhere clenching their fists in rage at hearing this. ...Okay jokes aside if you enjoyed this then I'd also highly recommend the two Shutokou Battle games for SNES. They're both a bit heavy on the menus so they're not the most user friendly (Actual tune shops where you buy and install upgrades, stuff like that) But they're both good fun but with more serious sports cars of the era.
I would love to see you review the “Drift King Shutoko Battle” games for the super famicom. There were 2. The driving physics are pretty wild for a mode 7 racer and the graphics are great as well. Would be a great deep dive review titles for your channel!
Wow how do you find these games? The concept of a racing game with economic cars is just great, that's the typical japanese approach to parody comedy (something more sober, but definitely in the same line as the parodius games when compared to the gradius games). Also, the animated portraits in the bottom are definitely 70% of the charm. I wish i could play a game where you can drive a Renault 12 (1983, my first car, used ofc, i was born in 88). Great video, SD
FYI the Kei car is a Japanese classification of car that has something like 600 or 700cc engine or less. The "K" car in the we US was a Chrysler/Dodge (mopar) front wheel drive 4cyl car platform The US id not known for its good mpg and small motors
God, how I love the 80's anime aesthetics
that was 90s though
Animation in this is gorgeous. The avatars look straight outta something like an 80's anime
(or an 80s dating sim on PC98 shhhh don't tell anyone I said that)
right!
I like the old anime drawing ,it has some kind of nostalgic vibe to it
@@chaser5616 becouse anime use to be good (even kid stuff) was way better back then,
I wish they had a shocked expression when they crash into stuff or fall in water or something lol.
It is weird to see them just deadpan when they get drowned and then respawn.
Finally, a game for the way I drive!
😂☺ lmao that was good imo 👍 ✌
Throwing shoes at people that try to pass you?
I drive being a waifu, too

Did you say tit??
Love the video, but Japanese kei-car (short for keijidōsha) ≠ Chrysler K-Car (internal development code for the chassis/platform of their '80s and '90s economy cars)
This needs to be the top comment. When I read k-car I was thinking kit, like a lotus seven clone.
I was wondering about this. I almost swallowed my tongue when he thought "Kei" car was the same as "K" car. To quote Bugs Bunny, "What a maroon".
I was wondering about this. The Honda Today is the car that the main characters drive in "You're Under Arrest", and it's a souped up cop car. Not really a "grocery getter", haha.
@@SimonCallahanI *adore* You're Under Arrest. One of the few 100+ episode anime series that I've had the patience to watch it all.
@@ShonnDaylee lol oh I'm sure you really knew that before reading the comment...👀

Before hearing the music... "I'm 60% into trying this game out". After hearing the music "I TOTALLY 100% into to play this game right now!!!

Not "K" but Kei and the displacement limit is 660cc: en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kei_car
And a maximum BHP of 63 if Gran Turismo taught me anything.
Reliants were on the chrysler 'k' chassis platform though, so i though that was a funny connection.
Really SNES you are kicking ass lately on the videos and finding some oddities. Love how you just let the music explain itself.
This actually looks pretty good. I'll give it a try tonight. Despite having my Ps4, Switch and Alienware I spend half my time at least going retro. I guess a child of the 80s will remain, in large part, a child of the 80s!
Thanks for telling us about it, Drunk.
The fact this exists is hilarious
This game actually does look fun
When go-karts are too small, but sports cars are too big...
Yeah, love Kei cars. Some of them have pretty bizarre names too, like the Suzuki Every and Honda That’s
I love the look of this and that music is solid. Nice find, thanks for sharing.
This game looks really good, and has a great soundtrack! Honestly idk what else you could ask from it. The character faces are cool too! The sprites are sick as well
Nice MST3K time chasers reference
Even her theme music is plaid

Love these vids man! They show the few snes/sfc games I've never heard of. I swear, this console's library never ends!

I loved playing this. It's got great depth of car culture!
Thanks for this exciting video! 👍🏻
The Reliant K wasn't exactly the same a the K cars from Japan.. You still had the same tax and registration cost as other cars with the Reliant..
I'm glad the developer included blood type data. That attention to detail really helps set games apart.
This reminds me of the Choro Q/Penny Racers series, particulary the GBA entries Gadget Racers and Road Trip: Shifting Gears.
I wasn't expecting having a chance to race with a Suzuki Jimny on the SNES, one of the bravest jeep-alikes I've ever seen. Small, but very efficient on off road tracks. Definitely not the kind of car you need if your family is getting bigger, the trunk is almost non existent.
Aged better than most 8 and 16 bit racing games
The transition between tracks is something genius idk why other games didnt do it aswell

Nice video and look at this game. Had no idea it existed. Looks interesting... Gonna pick this up on my next outting to Akihabara.
I do really like the look of this game. It might not be the best racer, but... it looks fun and those avatars are really neat.
Very cute game! I like the setting a lot. Only everyday cars, without bells and whistles. Feels cozy.
ever sense discovering this game a few years ago it has become my nr 1 favorite racing game on the snes
I play this all of the time for whatever reason. It is awesome
1988 plymouth reliant k was my first car. That thing was a hoss. They saved the auto industry in all honesty. Mine was called the FuzzyPickle (ala Earthbound). They are the american equivalent to the Lada.
Thanks SNES Drunk for reviewing every SNES game I hear music from & am curious about.
This actually looks pretty cool. I plan on playing this while jamming to some Relient K, just to complete the K-car experience
I like kei cars, and liked the idea of a kei car racing game but didn't know this was a thing that exists. The retro anime style is icing on the cake. I'll have to give it a look.
My first car was a 1985 Plymouth Reliant. We nicknamed her the Red Rider.
I'd like to call attention to the newspaper background at 1:09. I am instantly haunted by the headlines "KIWIS BY BEAT", "sphemy cats", and "damage".
The first time I ever saw a Thundercats car sticker was on a Reliant and it took me a year to realize it was a reference to the band Reliant K's song I Am Lion-O.
Hmm it looks nice and seems like something you wanna play after Work, not to hart, just a bit of fun :)

Driving to the grocer store was real serous business back then in the mid 90's.
K-cars are also made for the size of certain roads that where built long before cars.
I'm going to install it on my Snes Mini to try it ou. Thanks for showing us this jewel.
My first car was a 93 geo metro I had 2 12 inch Rockford Fosgate subs in the trunk
"Come on Ned, move this thing!"
"I can't! It's a Geo!"
This looks pretty interesting and also cute with the character window :D Good Video Alex :)
Reminds me a lot of GT Advance on GBA which I loved back in the day, will give this one a go.
My old car rolled out with the announcement
“From zero to sixty--
In sixty..!”
Total length of video: 352 secs.
Total length of "SNES Drunk": 3 secs.
.85% of the video was spent listening to "SNES Drunk."
Never heard before, so, thanks for bringing to the channe!!
I actually like the stage backgrounds.
I miss my K-car.

The music in this game is SOO GOOD!
From the cover, I thought this was going to be one of those RPG driving games that we’re so popular in Japan during the 90s.
Me while watching the video: this must look beautiful on BSNES with widescreen HD on.

Flawless anatomy on the character drawings at the end there...
What, your legs aren't 2 meters long?
SNES drunk not unless combined into a single superleg :(
I love how much you pay attention to the game's soundtrack. Seriously, that can make a boring game fun.
