As a marketing guy for 20 years and a voiceover professional for the past 10 years, I'd like to take note of Sean Halley's presentation style in this video. He conveys information conversationally and is very relaxed in front of the camera. Very often, company employees are nervous and wooden, while professional spokesmen can sometimes be too slick. Sean speaks as though he has one listener right in front of him, which is exactly the right way to do it. Oh, and I don't know Sean, so I have no vested interest in whether he is awarded extra time at coffee break for his good work.
I remember these in the good ol days when no one even knew what an impulse response was or even cared. You can get one now used for $150. WHY do we get GAS and spend so much on the latest and greatest thing?!? Long live the HD300!
@dracaler, sorry dude - I don't have any Squier gear at the studio (these are shot at my place), so I used my normal stuff - the Alchemist head is the least expensive amp I have access to normally when filming. A rig is only as good as its weakest link, so the fact that it sounds good is a positive, not a negative. The effects in the HD3/4/500 are the same as in the M13, and that device is on touring pedalboards worldwide - I've been gigging an HD500 hard for almost a year. Hope that helps.
@92otilbap Yes, the POD HD300 works with any amp, but I (personally) don't recommend plugging any modeling gear into another modeler like the Peavey Vypyr. I would suggest plugging the output from the POD into the Power Amp input/Effects Return of that Peavey amp if it has an effects loop.
just bought the PodHD300 yesterday and used it at our band rehearsal, i must say that it performed good and the amps sounds real and reacts the way you play it. and the FX only mode is very handy. built in Gate and Noise Reduction is really good too. way better than the POD pro.
@MaagnusMusic That's a custom guitar that John Suhr and the guys at Suhr Guitars made for me. I put the weird pickups in just before I shot this video - it's an old acoustic guitar pickup in the bridge, and a Dan Armstrong lipstick in the neck. Hope that helps...
when y you were introducing looper mode u turned Fx1 i guess for distortion ....now was the distortion generated from other pedal or from Pod...because i didnt see any light going turned on....plz clarify
@forthekidsbythekids That really depends on how you've EQ'd your amp and how you connected your pedals. Some pedals sound good through the front of amps and others sound better through the FX loops of some amps.
I use the HD300 with a hybrid guitar (Godin A6 Ultra) and the zoom A2.1u acoustic pedal guitar and I connect the acoustic output in the PA sytem and the electric output in the electric guitar amplifier and sounds very good; I use the HD300 or Roland GT-10 with my electric guitar too, are different and are excellent choices. Each pedal have strengths and weaknesses and each person must decide which are these.
Sorry @jkub - I've been slammed... The neck pickup is an old Dan Armstrong lipstick, and the one in the bridge is a 60's Japanese copy of a DeArmond acoustic guitar pickup - meant to go in the sound hole :-)
@BryanSteacyVideo Spider IV settings are not transferable to POD HD500. Here is a link that can help compare the HD300 and HD500: line6 (dot) com/podhd/multi-effects/compare.html
I wonder why Line6 doesn't make just a simple pedals that would be only amp simulation of, for example Twin Reverb, Marshall and maybe one or two more and put it in a box that reminds of that amp?
I am really thinking about buying this one to replace my analog pedalboard for easier and more convenient lives. I only have one question, how good is the sound quality when connected to the XLR output ?
@line6movies Hi !! I have a Orange Crush 35 solid state amp with a few built in effects , i´d like to know if the POD HD300 will sound good through it ... If so should i plug the pod on the line out or direct on the input of the amp for a better tone ?
To anyone reading this. I recently purchased this pedalboard and it has a defect where the power plug has to stay inside the port in a certain position to stay on and if i move it around a lot itll power off. Is there a website that fixes these or am I better off selling for a little cheaper than what I bought it for and put it towards a new pedalboard?
Hey does this pedal have pitch shifter.. Like i want to change by tuning to Drop C using the pedal whereas physically the guitar is tuned to Drop D...?
Hi, great video! It made the entire idea of an effectboard so much clearer for me! I currently have an Fender Frontman 65R 65watt amp and an Epiphone Les Paul.. I was thinking of getting something like the HD300 or an Fender Strat (It probally will be an Squier to start with) so i have something of both worlds. I can't afford both atm, what would you reconmend me? Im a beginning guitarist, im learning my second Iron Maiden song atm :) Thanks!!
I have a Line 6 Spider IV 150, can I take my saved settings off that amp via the Spider IV Edit program and put them on to this board or the HD500? Also, how does the HD500 differ from this, the HD300?
This review was particularly informative. I'm a die-hard XTLive user...so much so that I've long resisted the urge to "upgrade". The video made the HD300 seem VERY approachable. You just might have convinced me to "go ahead" (though my trusty XTLive is staying in my gear inventory anyway!).
i know this is an old video. just wanna ask, when im using looper, why the effects didnt remain and it will change whenever im trying to use different effect for 2nd layer?
dorodoro JPN not sure but when u switch patches watch your ears. It blasts even after u saved the rig. The volume does what it wants. I don’t even use it anymore.
@timderamos No he never was the man behind the 11R. He was a gun for hire who made videos for DigiDesign (Avid). The same is at work here. Line6 needed an articulate salesman to move the units sitting on shelves, so Line6 hired him. Do you really think a man of Sean Halley's calibre would really be using a Line6 unit let alone a HD300 in the studio or for live use. Lets get real.
my name is Joshua. I hate theses demos. its always a guy playing a strat type guitar and only sounds that are on the verge of breaking up from clean, loopers and dirty sounds with delay are demoed. wheres the high gain??? and the solid state clean??? that's real world app that I want to hear!!!
+Tina Ramirez i've owned this hd 300 for a while now, and it is crap working with distorted sounds. It works well with clean, as he demoed in the video, but using any effects, even simple ones like chorus with distortion on this things sounds like utter crap.. I also want to say this 300 worked better with Solid state amps and really took away the tubeyness when used with my all tube amps. I don't evn use the 300 anymore, it collects dust in a corner because I think the effects are so weak and don't work with distortion very well compared to standalone pedals.
what he does is he hooks his computer up to his guitar then records from there and it doesnt pick up the plucking sound, for the video he just records it and then lines it up with the audio, i think im not 100% on that though, thats just what i would do
The quality of sound not depend only of pedal, depend of the guitar pickups, of the amp and more important: the speaker; I have Roland GT-10 and line6 HD300. I connect both through a Roland Cube 80x or a Marshall MG100DFX too in both cases the sound is excellent and different too. The HD300 sound poor through PA system, the GT-10 bad. Every pedal needs a good guitar amp for obtain a good sound. The sound of this pedal will be different accord the speaker that have.
My long comments were distracting, so I answered @vercing's comments and questions (it's all good!) here, if you're interested: duc.avid(dot)com/showthread.php?t=304357&page=2

It is 2023 and still using this unit 😊
I Still have this in 2022!
This guy has the most amazing voice, almost put me in a trance like state o.o
line 6 thank you for creating this wonderful peace of art
Best review ever, I always come back to watch it!
i cant believe im actually getting one of these...cant wait!!
Wow, what a great player Shaun is!! 😵
I remember these in the good ol days when no one even knew what an impulse response was or even cared. You can get one now used for $150. WHY do we get GAS and spend so much on the latest and greatest thing?!? Long live the HD300!
Same! I just picked one up for $60!!!
Running it thru an old silver stripe bandit and it's awesome!
How would this work running into an IR Loader?
@dracaler, sorry dude - I don't have any Squier gear at the studio (these are shot at my place), so I used my normal stuff - the Alchemist head is the least expensive amp I have access to normally when filming.

Just bought one! Hopefully it will sound as good as in this demo!
IDK if anyone will see this but I actually just bought this unit. Does line 6 have a software bundle that's compatible with this?
@92otilbap Yes, the POD HD300 works with any amp, but I (personally) don't recommend plugging any modeling gear into another modeler like the Peavey Vypyr. I would suggest plugging the output from the POD into the Power Amp input/Effects Return of that Peavey amp if it has an effects loop.
Sweet demo, can't wait to get my HD500!
Love the way he swing with the chair

built in Gate and Noise Reduction is really good too. way better than the POD pro.
I just bought it yesterday too!!!....lol 11 years later..😁
How do you like it? Are you running direct or into an amp?
Good demo Sean.
Based on the good sounds you presented I've ordered one.
Mine arrives tomorrow :-)
What I want to know is WHAT KIND OF GUITAR IS THAT?!? I LOVE IT
Very cool, just found this pedal in thrift store , cool thing with that looper
@MaagnusMusic

Getting one soon with an Ibanez RGD7320, can't wait!
Very well done. Thanks

@LopezLPPL Yes, that's true. Visit our website to see a complete run down of which effects are offered int eh POD HD300.
That was an awesome solo!
rcolard
Sorry @jkub - I've been slammed...
The neck pickup is an old Dan Armstrong lipstick, and the one in the bridge is a 60's Japanese copy of a DeArmond acoustic guitar pickup - meant to go in the sound hole :-)
@92otilbap I think the Aux input with an adapter would work. Try that first.
Excellent presentation. Well done!
@guitarknowsallnike2 Sure! Just come out of one of the POD's outputs into a channel on your mixer. It will work fine.
Around 7:50 when he started to loop I just about crapped my pants that was awesome
If you look at :52, you can see where the knobs were set - I used channel 1.
@bevski209 Hi, yes, we also are adding a bass amp model soon with the 2.0 update. line6 (dot) com/news/general/1200
@aikeeramz Yes you could put this into an FX loop on an amp.
Great demo!!!!!!!!great product, great guitar player
really great demo. thank you.
Can you use an acoustic guitar with a HD300. It is worth it
Love it another confirmation for me to go and buy one ! What kind of guitar is that?
@BryanSteacyVideo Spider IV settings are not transferable to POD HD500. Here is a link that can help compare the HD300 and HD500: line6 (dot) com/podhd/multi-effects/compare.html
holy crap, COOOOOL guitar!
LOVED THIS
@TheEternalLeader
By "my place" I meant my studio. So yes, it's my studio, but it's just not in my house.
No trades! :-) :-)
I wonder why Line6 doesn't make just a simple pedals that would be only amp simulation of, for example Twin Reverb, Marshall and maybe one or two more and put it in a box that reminds of that amp?
he's the man behind the Eleven Rack.
so he works in Line6 now? cool!
Thanks for this video... helps me so much

Nice guitar and pu sound good!
คลิปนี้ช่วยให้ผมเข้าใจขึ้นเยอะเลย
Thank you very much ^ ^
Excellent demo video. Makes the unit seem waaay less intimidating.
Would this work as well for a bass? I'm interested in getting one for both the effects and recording. Great review by the way.
To anyone reading this.

I am messing with one right now and it has all sorts of pitch-shifting presets. [1 year late reply]
would you recomend this for a live show?
Hi there! How to connect the 300 to the effects loop of a head? I mean, what should I connect with what?
Hi, great video! It made the entire idea of an effectboard so much clearer for me!

How can I get that last patch and setup that he had on the final loop song?
does the tap switch work for other modulation effects as well such as tremolo, phaser and flanger effect?
I have a Line 6 Spider IV 150, can I take my saved settings off that amp via the Spider IV Edit program and put them on to this board or the HD500? Also, how does the HD500 differ from this, the HD300?

Hey did u guys have everything on the amp set at 12 o clock ?
i have a question.... Can i switch in between a metal tone ad then just change the patch to a clean one?
What kind of pickup is in the bridge of your guitar, i gotta have that!
Hi there! I own a Line Flextone 3 amp and i really want to buy this pedalboard. Is HD300 a good choice for me as far as my amp is concerned?
"I'm scared of looping, 'cuz looping kinda scares me."
Sean, what are the pickups in the Suhr? :-)
Boss ME-70, Vox ToneLab XE or this one? I usually play hard rock and metal!
please i want to buy this but want to know if this is just an amp emulato or an complete guitar multieffect ! ¿?
You bet!
i know this is an old video. just wanna ask, when im using looper, why the effects didnt remain and it will change whenever im trying to use different effect for 2nd layer?
dorodoro JPN not sure but when u switch patches watch your ears. It blasts even after u saved the rig. The volume does what it wants. I don’t even use it anymore.
Was this recorded direct.... anyone know for sure...
does this has a flanger style fx too?
Hi, do these have an onboard tuner?
can i transfer settings from the hd500 to the hd300?
@seanhalleyguitar great! thx Sean!!
can that big pedal be used like wah?
Yes - If you press down hard on the the volume pedal at the max, it will "click" and turn into a wah pedal.
is this good for playing live?
@timderamos No he never was the man behind the 11R. He was a gun for hire who made videos for DigiDesign (Avid). The same is at work here. Can you send me your patches that you used in this video?
This guy's plectrum makes no noise???? how?
Someone message me on how I can store a preset that I downloaded for my POD HD 300?
@adilovemetal
Yup - that's the whole point :-)
Does it have a wawa pedal
what kind of guitar is that
I’m completely new to all of this. But i have one of of these. I have LITERALLY no idea what is going on
This video does not help new people
7:17 DAT TONE
Yes just press your toe down on the front of the pedal.

LOL so you don't accidently turn it into a metallica solo "Waha wah wah wah"
this is the only good pod hd 300 review
i'ma scared of luupin', cuz luupin' kinda scures me! x)
@seanhalleyguitar That's your house? Jeez, wanna trade?
@mradosovic Hi, this sounds like great feedback to give to Product Development at line6 (dot) com/pdfeedback Thanks :)
that suhr is making me sweat.
Sounds like crap though not to mention laggy and detached.
