You guys can also get clear nail polish, put baby powder, corn starch, or flower in the bottle and shake it, then put it on top of your painted nails and voi la :) A matte look!

By far the best way to do this. I always see people saying to put the corn starch directly into the nail polish bottles and it ends up ruining it. So smart to put it on a separate mixing pallet. I do my nails sooooo often and I always wanted to try a DIY matte nail. Love this!

Some people do diy peel of base coat with elmer's glue and a little bit of water, and I found that putting the glue mixture on top of your regular nail polish manicure makes it dry matte. The glue does what a matte topcoat would do, except its cheaper.

I cleaned an old wet n wild nail polish bottle filled it all little more than 3/4 with glue and the rest with water.

Like any drugstore or place which has nail polish, it's clear but you have to make sure it's matte, i'd just ask a worker :D

Isabella De Anda No it stands for "do it yourself", and theres loads of diy's out there where you have to buy things for it, also it's just so much easier if you buy a matte topcoat and skip the diying :D

I just did this and I used a really old eye shadow that was the same color as my polish and it worked perfectly. You do have to polish quickly b/c it will clump up and the more coats you put on the longer it takes to dry. If you want to create a color you can use clear polish and the eye shadow of your choosing :)
ur welcome! and yes it works, just make sure to mix the corn starch REALLY WELL in the nail polish (kinda like baking, lol), i used a wooden cuticle pusher that i had to mix the corn starch.... just put a little at a time and mix!

If you want matte nails, you can also boil some water and hold your hand over the steam. It works just as well!

I usually buy Pure Ice Matte finish and when I went to Walmart they were out. The only other brand that had it was Sally Hensen but it was over five bucks for it. So I Google and many tutorials had Cornstarch and I bought a box for a dollar. I used a clear top coat that I really didn't cared about and removed all of it into a clear mixing container and used maybe two tablespoons because I read the more cornstarch you put the more matte finish it becomes. And after mixing it well I was so excited to see the matte finish for a dollar and a already owned clear nail Polish (:

the trick to painting your non dominant hand is bracing your brush hand on something solid and moving your actual finger across the brush. it is SO much easier that way.If you try to control the brush across the actual nail it gets all over.

This is a really cool way to get matte nails, I tend to use the steam technique because it's easier for me as one hand ends up being perfect and the other totally messed up. but if I was to paint my younger sisters nails (don't worry she's not that little) this way would be a lot safer :)
