    I didn't go to the dentist for over a decade and when I went to have a teeth cleaning, the dentist had said I had two cavities that remineralized. Not in the most pretty way but fortunately they aren't all that visible. So yes, the teeth can heal. And the better your diet and oral hygene, the more likely that is to happen.
    My diet wasn't paleo, it actually had a fair amount of processed food, and it was a grain-heavy diet with a fair amount of processed lunchmeat and cheese, but I didn't drink sodas regularly, and no candy. Now I've moved to a vegan diet, trying to avoid added sugars, and eat more green vegetables and fruit, and less grain (mostly just rice and sourdough German fitness breads now). I hope it's still good for my teeth (it's been very good for my cholesterol levels and gut health) and I'm taking better care of them than I was through oral hygene.
    Sodas are really bad for your teeth. Phosphoric acid loves to eat enamel, it's bad for not just your teeth but also your bones and your kidneys. If you can make one change in your diet, giving up colas, and cutting out regular soda consumption in general, it would be a huge boost for oral health.

    Paleo diet contains more vitamin K2 which is helpful for calcium absorption into dentin and bones. Egg, liver, meat have much vitamin K2 MK7, while green vegetable has much vitamin K2 MK4. Besides, other sources tell that we also need vitamin D3, vitamin A, calcium, & magnesium to boost this process. That comes to make sense now. Currently trying this diet and hopefully it'll work.

    I asked my dentist once if you could get off the "watch" list or was it like the no fly list. They said it was possible, but did not seem to think it happened much. I started using the expensive flouride toothpaste (that toothpaste is amazing) and consistantly brushing after meals (and not rinsing my mouth out with water after brushing) and flossing after meals and I haven't had a cavity in a few years. I have recently started fasting and I am assuming that will be even more helpful as if I am only eating once a day and sometimes less than that, their will be less food for the bacteria to eat and that should be helpful. I am still brushing my teeth in the morning and at night even though I only eat once a day. Hopefully I can get all my teeth off the watch list and shock my dentist. Haha

Even if you do remineralize it, the bacteria can quickly get to the pulp through these microtubes, and this might happen faster than the remineralization process. Now you need a root canal since the pulp is infected.

    • @askthedentist
      @askthedentist  4 года назад +14

      Great question!! Paleo diet, by definition, is a diet that our ancestors ate, and that is up for debate what that really consisted of. Most will agree that it’s devoid of processed carbs and processed sugar. The lack of these ingredients is the prime reason the paleo diet is good for your teeth. There’s very little demineralization going on with this diet. Also, nutrients like K2 that are very prevalent in the paleo diet (and not so much in the western diet) are excellent for promoting tooth health.
