      I agree apart from the Northerners part. He distinctly says he would let Robb STYLE himself King, much like the Martells are Princes and Princesses of Dorne, but still must swear fealty to the Iron Throne. He could've been a good king, he was more politically savvy than other kind kings (Viserys I for example) and he would've been Stannis' heir who was very unlikely to have a son.

    Honestly, Brienne is my version of feminism, not Arya, not Cersei, Brienne. She still has that little fantasy, of being a “lady” and finding a good strong man that’ll love her for all that she is, but when she realized that perhaps it wasn’t in the cards for her, she stayed honorable to her ideals while also protecting the person who protected that “lady” fantasy. It’s not about revenge or becoming a “killer” but being honorable. Really wish Brienne and Arya could have had a relationship so she could teach her a thing or two smh

    • @TheEtherny
      @TheEtherny 8 месяцев назад +10

      Ehh, I think this universe had many good examples of positive womanhood. Margery took advantage of the patriarchy by becoming everything that was expected from her while getting what she wanted, Sansa helped those she could with what little power she had by staying kind, Daenerys wanted to integrate and managed to make a loving marriage out of being sold, Olenna remained powerful despite her age by staying sharp, honestly, GRRM really knows how to write a great character.

      The thing i like is that the characters are strong in their own ways. Catelyn and cersei were mothers but fierce as fuck. I don’t think Olenna would have been his hand, she would have been the first female hand ever and while Renly might not have cared (he appointed Brienne into the Kings Guard after all), I don’t think the other lords would have accepted such an appointment.
      It might not have been such a good idea anyway. Firstly I don’t think she was as great as people make her out to be and very old already and secondly the Tyrells would have become to powerful. Margeary would have been Queen, Maes although incompetent could barely be refused a council position after making Renly king and Renly would have surely put Loras into a powerful position, just to keep him around.
      I think Randyll Tarly for example would have been a better and more likely choice.

    Their small council would've been dope too:
    King Renly with Queen Margaery
    Stannis as Hand
    Davos as Master of Ships
    Lord Commander Brienne or Loras
    Mace Tyrell as Master of Laws
    Varys as Spymaster

  • @Unownshipper
    @Unownshipper 2 месяца назад +3

    Renly was foolish but he wasn’t a joke. He didn’t have the wisdom to be king; he wouldn’t recognize how weak his claim to the throne was and probably believed he could make the whole world love him, yet all the while he couldn’t even make his own brother get behind him. If it wasn’t Stannis or Daenerys, I’m sure it would’ve been the leader of some other force who, having failed to be won over by his charm, wit, and good looks, would’ve done him in.
    But still, despite that, there’s something very admirable about him. He knew what it was to be an outsider, he could have overcompensated and joined in the jeering, but instead, he empathized with those who were different and it cost him nothing to be compassionate. Some people are great because they can inspire greatness in others. Brienne trained and worked to be worthy of the honor she perceived Renly represented; she became a true embodiment of a knight. Through Brienne’s loyalty to him, Renly changed the course of history in Westeros.
