It's one of my favorite song,"the very thought of you makes my heart sing"....I've never thought that I could play it in such a short time as a beginner! It sounds great even with the most simple slash chord at the first 6 minutes of your lesson! I shocked my friends! Thank you so much for such great tuitions!
great teacher. knows how to slow down. and hear and see the lesson. I wished all lessons for all things. could be so smooth. you make a complex thing child's play what a gift.
+Edward Lee Thanks for the kind words Edward... I try to make things as simple and easy-to-grasp as possible so it's great to hear your comments! Hope to see you at www.pianogroove.com when we launch. Cheers, PianoGroove
Hi pianogroove. I'm writing out your voicings for this song. Can you please tell me a little bit about the process of how you chose these voicings.? In other words, did you try out different voicings for each chord? Also, do you write the whole piece out with the new voicings? Are there a select few voicings that you choose from? Thank you for your time.
Where would i learn what these terms mean G7, Dm7, Cmaj7. Why they use the term 7. How i can learn these blocks? ( i cannot read music, and always played guitar by ear, and my ambition outruns theory. i just cant stick with learning sheet music). Are there any bare bones videos on youtube, that explain the chunks?
Was that a diminished scale (half-whole) over the Edim in 4th measure? And did you play the same scale over the A7? Didn’t realize it could work there.
As I'm trying out your voicings, I can see by playing them, that part of your choices of voicings were due to the ability to have smooth voice leading. That makes sense to me. : )
+chelomustis Hey Chelomustis, you can alter any dominant 7th chord whenever you want. Alterations add extra tension and dissonance to dominant chords and increase the sense of resolution to the 1 chord. Try it out by flattening or sharpening the 9th or 13th on any dominant chord and then play the 1 chord to resolve the tension. I have created lots of lessons on this topic - they will all be available once the website has launched so stay tuned! PianoGroove :-)
Just one comment...I always hate it when anyone calls them "slash chords"!!! Why? Because the correct term is "compound chords", whereas the chord in the numerator is played over the bass note of the denominator (as in a fraction). However, I would not call them over chords, or fraction chords, either! Let's call them by their proper name: COMPOUND CHORDS!!! Thank you!
the amount of happiness I get when I get a part correct ^^,

Gorgeous! I wouldn't call the chord at minute 24:24 a G13 though. It seems more like an Fmaj7#11. Great work!
Fantastic and simple, even a "plodder" like me is making progress! I plan on learning and mastering this beautiful song! Thank you 👍
you have an incredible gift for both playing and teaching. many many thanks

Do you have the score written out with the substitutions.
at 22:25 i see you altered that A7 chord going to D7. What is the rule for altered chords? when can you alter it?

nice lesson but would be much easier for me to follow along if it had real sheet music.
